Altered Carbon (2018)
Season 1 was great, Season 2 is epic
I love both the seasons of altered carbon. But season 2 takes the production to new heights and the onscreen acting and action is ramped up X10. Awesome cyber punk concepts and a dangerous dark world is created for your senses to be submerged into. Both seasons are a must watch, someone downgraded season 2 within 5 minutes of watching it.... I can only assume that's a race thing, which is ridiculous as it's really well done and the action and comedy and tragedy is all there with great cliff hangers throughout, great performances and way better on screen performances than season 1. Season 2, the politics and mystery that unfolds will have you hooked.
The Creator (2023)
Boohoo Americans are the villains for once
Please be a grown up when reviewing this movie. It's a story and it's not real, Arabs are forever being portrayed and labeled as terrorists for the entertainment of the world. For once the Americans are the enemy and why not, it's a refreshing take on things.
I knew this movie would get some very unfavourable reviews.
Yes I do agree that the AI seems to be very young in its evolution in this movie and does not have the all powerful tech to overcome man's weaponry, I accepted and understood that early on. I was emotionally drawn into this movie, the child pulls on your heart and the acting and script is sublime, the visuals are mind blowing as a package this takes you on a hell of journey and you genuinely start to love the AI.
Great movie.
Laal Singh Chaddha (2022)
Watched this with low expectations
I was left blown away coming into this movie with low expectations and some Hollywood snobbery about it being another Bollywood rip off, either it's music or movie material, snobbery snobbery.
But when a remake is made with so much artistic abilility and love it's amazing how 3 hours of your life can just run past on a flash. It was a great experience and brought some human issues to the surface as did the original.
After watching this masterpiece I am now convinced that dirty tricks were at work to destroy this movie. It as plain as day that this is a precious gem of a movie which deserves a special place in Bollywood history.
It makes me wonder what is going on in India for this to be a flop.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Growing up as a kid in UK no one liked Captain America
When I used to read comics. Noone would swap me a captain America comic because he was not popular. He was cheesy and that was about it. When his first movie came. Ok it I watched it and was left feeling like warm about him. This movie surprised me, one of the best MCU movies out there. I now accept that MCU have made captain America work better through the movies. Well done MCU.
I guess there adaptation of him sits better o
the big screen with international audiences.
I like how this movie takes you deep into an espionage story and it works really well as a super hero movie. A super hero movie which is thought provoking, how often does that happen with a super hero movie?
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
A poor effort
After such an epic on the first outing.
I did not expect this to be so badly paced. It lacked intensity, a lack of editing skills made this feel like self obsessed directors cut.
The void left by Michael Jordan's intensity and Chadwick Bosemans brilliant presence was felt throughout the movie. The lack of strong male role models was somewhat concerning for me and started to make the movie feel like it had political under tones to it.
This movie signals a troubling time for the Marvel universe as it appears to struggle to find its way. Let's hope they manage to get it together, I think the introduction of the X-Men may be the only thing that could work as a well needed centre piece of their universe, the quicker they build up to X-Men the better.
Black Adam (2022)
DC are cursed with the worst writers
Beside the Batman movies, the rest of DCs catalogue are haunted by bad story and script writing, this movie is no different.
Getting a script to fit actors who's first language is not English requires skillful writing, DC writers have no idea about this, and its evident when watching this movie.
Humour is hit and miss, and DC has the addiction of self glorifying their brand through this movie with posters and figurines of their superheroes on display like self awarding trophies. This movie is cheesy and makes you want to roll your eyes, Marvel know how to navigate close to the cheese line but hardly ever cross the line.
The saving grace of this movie is Dwayne Johnson and the charisma he brings to this movie.
DC almost has two universes, the Batman world which is crafted with love and respect, then there's the rest where it seems to get very disjointed, rushed and leaving you with a feeling disappointed.
The Batman (2022)
A great movie in its own right
What a splendid mystery rollercoaster and a exploration of who batman is and who he must become.
Gotham has atmosphere from the get go and the character building prowess of the movie is second to non. It is gripping and intense I found my self not wanting it to end and was relieved to learn after 1 hour 30 mins into the movie that it was a 3 hour movie, that proved to be a testimonial moment for me as it said so much about its beautifully paced story telling. It's been a long time since I felt like that when watching a movie.
This film was not with our its flaws, Patterson as Bruce Wayne does not look heroic or formidable, more like a goth kid at times. But these are minor set backs as the movie is driven with precision by some great writing and directing. A special mention must go to score which keeps you gripped by the movie throughout, a great viewing experience all around.
A movie which finds it mark alongside all the recent great Batman movies.
The Legend of Maula Jatt (2022)
South Asian Masterpiece. Down voting this to a 1 is shameless.
This movie hits the right tones with the right balances, movie is well paced with delicately building characters.
The colour palet used for this movie gives it a dark epic feel through out, a warm glow from every scene reminded me of Gladiator.
The script was 2nd to none, very theatrical deliveries of lines combined with grand sets and we'll choreographed fight scenes made this an experience.
I didn't know the actors before watching this movie but will never forget the cast. The acting was top quality, often the use of eyes was enough to express emotions, this movie has soul.
I think some people who have voted this as 1 are being disrespectful to art, this movie is clearly trending between votes of 7 to 10 from honest South Asians across the globe, these overexagerating and putting down-votes are dispicable and disrespectful to all the artists involved.
What Is a Woman? (2022)
I am from the UK, I loved this masterpiece
I am from the UK, and what I saw here is a partisan topic unfold. Your children's safety is not for sale regardless of who you vote for.
So this documentary should bring left and right together. Matt doesn't help things by screams LEFT on his YouTube channel at every opportunity.
But this documentary on its own is valuable to all. As parents sometimes we do need to see documentaries like this so we don't feel alone, it literally gives you a voice to defend your children from this crazy phenomenon sweeping our societies.
Thank you Matt, from the UK.
Turning Red (2022)
East meets West movie essentially
Some funny moments but East meets West movies leave me feeling tired. As someone from the Asian community this movie feels.like a siblimenal message. I felt like I had been preached to by the end credits.
Eternals (2021)
Didn't feel like a marvel movie
It was not paced right, the script was not witty or heart felt. When comedy was attempted it felt like the timing was off. This series has potential but something will need to be changed for the next one, new writers and director maybe?
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
From a comic fans perpective
This was a tragedy, Sony showed a lack of understanding of the colourful world and challenging world of a fresh faced teen, witty Peter Parker
The world created in this vision would have been better suited to Batman or Punisher.
The witty lines were just not there the movie took its self far too seriously removing goofs and humour that were evident from comics, and I'm afraid comics do matter because that's where Spiderman's. Even though the portrayal of Spiderman was broken in this version, here are some pluses, lizard man was done well and the suit was ok, but looked a bit grimey instead of vibrant, the movie depresses.
Singularity (2017)
This movie is embarrassingly bad
The only way this movie can be enjoyed is with a few pals to get to together for a laugh, this film is totally game to be torn to peices. Funny acting, funny script, bad concepts, this needs to be taken to the cleaners by anyone who watches this.
