The Rookies: Time Is the Fire (1972)
Surprises!
There's great writing in this one. The action surrounds a kidnapping of a teenage girl. William Windom, who I remember first from the TV series "The Farmer's Daughter" with Inger Stevens and later as a regular on "Murder, She Wrote," plays the kidnapper - and he is nasty. He's usually a good guy. Kitty Lester, who appeared as a singer on "Shindig!" and later had a recurring role on "Little House On the Prairie," has a small role as a maid. Gerald S. O'Loughlin and Kate Jackson both have key role in this. But the plot is full of some unpredictable twists. I'm not giving anything away but it's well worth a look.
The Three Stooges (2012)
Awful, awful, awful!
I knew within five minutes of the movie starting that we had made a dreadful mistake in going to the theatre. This is one horrible, horrible film. No matter how much you like the actors that portrays the Stooges, this film was a dreadful mistake. From the stupid plot to the stupid sight gigs, this is just terrible. As a Three Stooges fan I almost cried. Stay away. You have been warned.
The 20th Century-Fox Hour: The Miracle on 34th Street (1955)
TV adaptation is not all that bad
This isn't bad. It was typical of those seen in TV anthologies of the day. Thomas Mitchell does well with the script. But Susan Descher shows little emotion as Susan and Macdonald Carey and Teresa Wright have little romantic spark. Ray Taggart ("Perry Mason") is one of the real bright spots as the judge. No one expects this to pass the Edmund Gwenn version. But it's certainly watchable. Watch and enjoy.
Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
Calling it dreadful is being too nice
Twenty-seven minutes in before a WB cartoon character (Bugs Bunny) makes an appearance. The first half hour is how great LeBron James is and what a fancy home he has. Unlike the first Space Jam, this is as soulless as a computer board. The second LooneyTunes film was full of chuckles. This one is a stone cold disaster.
The Loudest Voice (2019)
Superb!!!
Russell Crowe is absolutely stunning as Roger Ailes in this multi-part drama that shows the rampant sexual harassment at Fox News. Crowe deserved the Golden Globe he won for this. He is absolutely amazing. I liked this a lot better than "Bombshell."
Love, Gilda (2018)
A beautiful tribute
This is a wonderful film. It shows the Gilda we loved on SNL and the real Gilda we never saw. It will literally make you laugh and make you cry. Don't miss it.
