American Horror Story: Take Me to Your Leader (2021)
Please!
If Ryan or Brad ever read this, I got only one thing to say: Please drop Kaia Berger! There are plenty of actresses at her age range that are more beautiful and who can actually act, with some being quite good. Give the opportunity to someone who deserves it. Why would you invest on someone who can't do the most basic thing at their profession? Less nepotism please and you will see an improvement on the quality of your product.
PS: Thankfully you didn't cast Paris Jackson, if she shows up later on I will have to cut my wrists.
The Devil All the Time (2020)
Meh
The best thing about this movie is the acting, hence the 4 stars. Other than that it is pointless, predictable, unoriginal and extremely pretentious.
It doesn't really bring anything new to the table. If you're used to watch movies you can pretty much see every situation coming from a mile away. It is very poorly written with inaccurate dialogues for the time it portrays.
The only thing I'll really remember of this film, is the feeling of me wanting it to end.
Homeland: Prisoners of War (2020)
Great Series Finale
Not going to extend here on how great the finale was. It is very rare for a long running series to achieve a finale that manages to wrap up the story in a satisfying way not leaving you angry, disappointed or wanting more. You did it.
Just wanna thank everyone involved for providing us with a quality and entertaining series. It had its ups and downs, but always managed to stay watchable and entertaining, and when it was good it was really good.
Thank you!
A Primeira Tentação de Cristo (2019)
Not Funny.
I'm not religious. So this is a review that is not biased by what I believe or don't.
I do totally support the film makers right to make comedy out of anything they want. Comedy just doesn't work with the politically correctness agenda. At least not for me.
With that said, the film is just not funny. At all. I'm not gonna waste any time evaluating other aspects of the production, because if a comedy doesn't get to be funny, it loses all its purpose. So no point.
My only advice is don't watch. So you don't get to waste the time that I did and not getting back.
American Horror Story: Camp Redwood (2019)
Great to watch but doesn't serve its purpose.
Looks beautiful, well produced, written and acted, however my complaint here would be the same as for the last seasons since Freakshow.
It is a horror series that doesn't give you any suspense anymore. It feels like they want to be witty and stylish, or incorporate agendas more than being scary. The first four seasons kept me on the edge of my seat, but from Hotel on it has failed to do so. And I can't really tell why, because most of these seasons have all the elements to be creepy as hell. But somehow they don't. Maybe this is happening because they just throw those "creepy elements" out here, without stretching the moments to give you enough time to be scared. They are right on point in terms of content but completely mistaken in terms of form. Being reduced to 10 episodes doesn't help.
Roanoke was the closest we got but still wasn't scary (it improved on the second half, but not enough, felt rushed). I mean, if you're telling a horror story, you want people to be scared, right?
The first episode of the season promises a lot of twists, because so much happened already. So let's see how it goes. I'm giving it a 6 for now.
Still great to watch. Wouldn't tell people it's not worth watching.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Good superhero movie.
This is my first review. The amount of bad reviews for this movie compelled me to do so.
To start with I must, with all honesty, clarify that this is not a 10/10 movie. I'm giving it a 10 though, to help balance the rate. I would give it a 7.5 in other situation. The film has its issues, but it's far from being the worst X-Men movie.
I chose not to go watch it on the theaters because of the bad reviews. Boy, this is the last time I take them into consideration. People nowadays are way too sensitive and hysterical to write an honest review. Seriously? Rate 1 because a character in the movie says that they should be called X-Women? It's not only dishonest but also extremely disrespectful with all the hard work a lot of people put into this. You shouldn't be condescending when writing a review. Just respectful and honest.
I found the film a bit refreshing. It goes a different way from the superhero movies that last came out. No jokes literally. Finally a serious superhero movie! The runtime is also a plus, no pretentious 150-180 unnecessary runtime.
It starts a little amateurish in my opinion. Writing is not that great and it compromises the performances sometimes. So does the editing. But the film finds its way and gets a lot better as it progresses.
Even though the characters do not have a huge arc, they are not flat. Most of the main characters present a duality, they make mistakes, they repent. They question their own actions and see the consequences of what they have done. The actors are mostly good, I just would have liked to see more of Jessica Chastain, she is always great.
Kinberg did a good job with the direction. But it doesn't stand out. The film as a whole works, but it's more because of the joint effort than if I would rate every single aspect of the movie separately.
I regret not having watched in the theaters. It was entertaining, it is emotional and it moved me. I found this version of the phoenix storyline better than the previous one.
I hope Marvel Studios do not turn the x-men into something campy and funny like all of their movies.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Lame Of Thrones
That's all I have to say. Lame series finale. So so lame. Lame to death.
Scream (2015)
As a teenage drama, this supposedly slasher series might stand a chance.
For the horror genre fans, do you know when you're scanning through Netflix's catalog, you see all those low rated B horror movies? Well if this was a movie, it would be one of them.
As a horror fan in general, and specifically a fan of the Scream movies, which I am gonna try not to take in account (mostly) and compare (well this is named and based on Scream after all), I felt compelled to write my first review ever, after watching this show and coming to its page and seeing so many good reviews.
To start with, I feel that so many wrong choices have been made in order to bring this to life, that they should be enlisted. First, it is airing on the wrong network. MTV is definitely not the network for a show like this. It puts a target on a much younger audience, so it feels the show is produced for this audience only, and it makes it very difficult for someone who is above their thirties to enjoy it, or relate to it. Even though the movies were sort of campy, thankfully to Wes they were really serious when it came to the actual horror side of it. The whole "song that is playing" thing that MTV does, distract from the story and makes it feel more like music video than anything else. It keeps you from diving into the series world and it slaps you in the face that this is nothing but a TV show. Better if you watch this on Netflix.
Second this should not be named Scream at all. It has nothing to do with the movies. And even though the premise of the show is that of a masked killer, with ulterior motives, stalking people over the phone and social media, there's absolutely nothing that resembles the movies. It doesn't have its atmosphere as a lot of people say. The references are pretty forced in order to justify it being named Scream, but it could well be another I Know What You Did Last Summer or Urban Legend...
Third, they should have definitely taken longer to think and plan this out. Everything about it seems sloppy and rushed. So much that not even the change imposed by Dimension resolved the problem.
The Horror: Inexistent. It can be gory at times. But if you're looking to be on the edge of your seat, or feel jump scares, you're gonna be let down. There's no real suspense, and 99% of the murders have absolutely no build up and when they do it's not effective. There's hardly ever any chasing and the score, which in my opinion plays a very important part in the build up and was so good in the movies, is extremely weak and cheap in the series. The voice on the phone is not scary at all. I understand that they could not use the same actor, and mask (which I totally approve by the way, it is indeed kinda scary), but they should have looked for someone that could do a scary voice instead of looking for someone that could do a similar voice to the movies. The whole whodunit was extremely underdeveloped and did remind of Scream. I thought all that would improve in season 2 with the changes, but after watching the premiere everything remains the same.
The Cast: Terrible. Just a bunch of young teenagers who display shallow emotions, they are not truthful, you do not feel for them. You don't have to be Meryl Streep or Marlon Brando, to act truthfully, but one of the reasons the movies were so successful, was that it was very well cast, they are not geniuses in acting, but they play their part well. The main actress in the show, shows more fragility than actual heroine traits, those traits are in her lines, but she fails to convey them in the character's personality. Aside from Audrey and Noah, (whom probably with more experience will become good actors) the entire rest of the cast is irrelevant. There are no small parts, and more than the writers, it is the job of the actors to make their character interesting, in that matter they all fail. Brooke was kinda interesting in the first season, but it feels that in this new season she gives in to the other actors's laziness. The actress playing the mom, is the worst actress I have ever seen on TV, her lines are emotionless and she's more wooden than a wood, no expression anywhere. She might as well be the killer for coldness. And whatever she lacked in expression, the actress who played Piper, had in overacting. Her acting was way over the top and full of clichés. For the new season, the new actors are pretty bad too, the adult man, does not convince in the role that he's playing and the actor playing his son, is also too obvious. The new girl is fine.
In Short: The elements from the movies are only to justify the series's name, but end making the show a cheap copy of them. The name doesn't really fit the show. It is more of a "Lakewood High", than "Scream". If you don't want to be deceived, do not watch it, and if you're in the range of twelve to sixteen years old (and not a horror movie type of person), you may find it a little bit scary.
