The Young Ones (1982–1984)

Good morning morning... good morning fellas
8 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Wat more can I say other than, this is the best comedy of all time? Quite much actually so lets start.

First of all, this series is one first-rate comedy on its own. I cannot compare it with anything else! Second, all the characters have great personalities. There must be at least one character everybody likes as a favourite.

The combination of violence and dialogs makes it absolutely hilarious.

One of my favourite scenes:

Rick's conscience: RICK... RICK.... this is the voice of your conscience speaking... you just killed a hippy!!!

Rick: No, I wasn't me, it was Vyvian, and Mike.

Rick's conscience: No it was you you spotty little bastard....

**** Rik falls asleep and has a wet dream ****

Rick's conscience: Stop having wet dreams you perverd!!

Vyvyian: RIK!! TELL YOUR CONSCIENCE TO SHUT UP!! I AM TRYING TO GET SOME SLEEP OVER HERE!!

The bands are great to. Motorhead featuring once. Madness featuring during a riot, and when ending their song joining in the fight.

My only problem is the many britsh characters mentioned during the show. As a non-Brit I don't know most of them, with exception to Margeret Thatcher naturally!

Give it a shot, if you don't like the humour in the conversations right away, you might still enjoy the ridiculous characters.

RoboCop (1987)

Why did Paul stop here?
28 December 2005
I have finally seen this movie, its awesome!! I know I usually have to close an eye or maybe two if it considers special effects in movies from the 80's but this one is definitely not one of them.

Good special effects! Very good sound effects too, the walking of robocop is really scary. I loved that scene too when robocop finally comes alive, It remembers me of "the matrix" although this movie is much older.

The acting is very good, I have seldom seen movies where every villain plays his role well, but here is one! This movie does indeed contain quite some violence, quite some!!! So maybe it was good that I haven't seen it back then in the 80's. It never annoys though. The film keeps tension well reserved and I had the feeling that the movie was longer than the given 100 minutes or so? So my final question remains, why weren't robocop 2 (and maybe 3 too) not directed by paul verhoeven as well? Even today This movie is a masterpiece!!!

Terry, It's not your fault
24 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Terry, the writer of the holy grail, Terry, the writer of the life of brian. Terry the writer of.... hang on, terry didn't write grimm, he directed it!

Where to start? I expected an adventurous and historical type of movie, instead I was rewarded with an impossible mixture between horror and humour. So how to react on this movie?

On one hand you see the quite scary witch, decapitated bodies and corpes,

on the other hand you are supposed to laugh about silly stuff which in particular the younger brother (heath ledger) commits. What is the writer of this filmopgrahpy thinking?!? You can't combine a scary halloween type of movie with a monty python one!

In the end I left the movie with mixed feelings. I liked most of the acting but am disappointed in the lack of history about these brothers.

If you like monty python humour give this movie a pass, it might be too scary. If you like horrors, give this movie a pass, it contains to many jokes to be scary. If you like history, give the movie a pass, there isn't much in it.

I don't think terry is to blame, but the writer surely is! Because the acting and the landscape are done well, I still give it some stars, but this movie will NOT join my DVD shelf.

This movie keeps impressing me
24 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I saw it the first time when I was 14 years old. That might be the reason why I still sticks so much to my memories. Still, I have managed to impress some of my friends with the movie as well. One guy sat literally on the edge of his seat and didn't make a flinch during the entire movie.

The effects, yes sadly, they might be disappointing, but the scary part is the sound of those creatures coming closer and closer, along with the rapid change from day to night. The acting was good enough, I really don't see why people complain about this.

The movie builds up the tension gently but firm, and can keep you there all the way. This movie is one of my favourite movies and will probably also remain so. The give enough attention on the scientific explanation of the phenomenon these 10 passengers are in.

No fellow time travellers, this movie doesn't belong in the past, but in the present. If you are in for some scary science fiction, this is the movie!

King Kong (2005)
6/10
This movie does not deserve the same credit as lord of the rings
22 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I went to this movie with my expectations very high, I mean, Peter jackson did a great job on lord of the rings.

And he did great things here too, let me first summarized the positve things: Great effects!! The battle with king kong and the several T-rexes is awesome! The jungle or forest looks also good and as soon as King kong is in (new york?) the scenes are totally astonishing.

I liked most of the acting, it was nice to see jack black play a serious role this time, considering him in High fidelity or school of rock I had the idea that he was only good for one type of character. Naomi Watt is a real beauty in this movie, They couldn't have featured a better blondie for the gorilla.

I was touched by several scenes of King kong. The film really gives attention to show how human apes can be. Especially when king kong was dancing on the ice in the end, nice scene! But now the bad things.

Many events are very unrealistic. During the stampede scene many humans are not squished by all those herbivorous dinosaurs.

Some men are trapped by a great number of insects and all of a sudden two men come with guns to a rescue, against such a hive of insects? not likely! How did they get king kong on the ship home? Wasn't the ship damaged? WHat happened to the remaining crew of the ship after the voyage? King kong gets bitten by the t-rex several times in his arm but no wounds appear.

THe island from the outside was NOT that well done. I looked very unrealistic and many rocks have shapes of a skull or something else, who made those rocks? The natives of the island looked very much like the orcs in lord of the rings, more funny stir, as soon as "our heroes" leave the island all the natives are gone, were are they? I am giving it a 6 because of how well done king kong has been displayed in this movie but you cannot leave this movie without thinking: Wait a minute, Why is?......

The perfect family Christmas movie, but also fun for everyone who
22 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I was a bit disappointed want I watched the trailer of this movie and was therefore a bit reluctant to visit it. Mainly because it showed scenes of these children with weapons and my thought was, what? Those children from the modern world with weapons knowing how to use them ready for battle? The beginning also put question marks to the movie because the city (which one by the way, London?) was bombed and the next day everyone can still take the train? They should have told that part a bit more clearly, but as soon as the Narnia part was beginning I was getting more and more impressed.

Not only did they show a good landscape. The animated animals are also great fun to much. The acting of the children is good, I couldn't note any unnatural acting there. The witch was casted very well, she has a friendly face which lets you wonder if she is good or bad at the beginning.

The lion made a great leader. The battles were displayed awesomely.

In total I left the movie with a very satisfied feeling. I haven't read the book but I feel that the director did the very best in order to make this look like the book.

I am giving it a 9 because a few scenes want to fast and should have been told a bit more clearly, for example, the scene at the beginning, or when The lion turned out to be alive he arrives with another great army (beside from the one already on the battlefield). My girlfriend told me that was because he released the spell of all those frozen by the witch but that wasn't perfectly clear to me.
