Dark Places (2015)
Just a bad movie
Good concept that failed to come to fruition. Story that makes no sense. Characters that don't act consistently from one moment to the next. Charlie Therone plays a good part and in fact most of the acting is good. The concept also really could have produced a good movie. A young woman convinced that her brother killed her family. Slowly unravelling the truth and finding that maybe what she thought happened wasn't the truth. But unfortunately the writers couldn't come up with a convincing story or convincing reasons for the actions of the charcters involved. It just ends up as an irritating convoluted mess.
The Conners (2018)
Exactly what stupid gets you
A sequel to "Roseanne", a wonderful and classic sitcom that had temporarily been revived, and against all odds successfully, in 2017. This however is not successful, its empty and soulless. It turns out that removing the creative essence behind a show because they have a different opinion isn't a good idea.. It ends with a show that could best be described as viewing a rotting carcass after the life has been drained from it. You only realise how much the rest of this case were hangers on once the star of the show is gone. This is what happens when ideology replaces merit. This is what stupid gets you.
From (2022)
Amazingly bad right from the start
This show was very disappointing. It looked good from trailers, seemed to have a interesting concept. But unfortunately at its core its a collection of characters that are nothing more than lifeless cardboard cut outs placed into whatever position the awful story/script requires. Right from the first major scene nobody acts in a way that is even slightly believable. Picture this.. A small child stands in front of a window with a old woman on the other side spookily trying to convince her to open it. Her mother enters the room and realises its some kind of evil spirit (assume all the adults in the village know about this). Does she do what anyone with a minimum of one brain cell would?, which is rush over and remove the child from the situation? Nope, she casually tells the child its a evil demon thing and its best not to open the window.. its basically a typical "dont pick that thing up baby you might catch something" reaction. Only its that reaction to the entire families inevitable death. This is a example of the pure drivel that is "From".
The Movies That Made Us (2019)
Used to be good
Always enjoyed the show, at least the first 2 seasons and much of the third, but it seems like its on its way to woke destruction now. Two episodes in a row interject narratives around women and then race in movies and make cringe speeches about it that just don't add anything. Then the very next episode the guy that's been narrating the show for two seasons is replaced by a female narrator.. coincidence?, I doubt it. The Woke virus just hit this show IMO so its likely over now and isn't worth a 4th season.
This is such a shame because it genuinely used to be a very good show and provided some very interesting info on classic movies. I also have to disagree with some others that the regular narrator was annoying or the editing was poor. I thought it moved quickly through interviews back and force in a very quirky and entertaining way. Shame its almost certainly over now never to return in any kind of watchable form.
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts (2022)
Can't stand these people
Love the Harry Potter books, the movies weren't nearly as good but still very well done. But now that the cast have grown up, my god I just can't stand these insufferable self important fake people.
The Nice Guys (2016)
One of the most underrated movies ever
This has to be one of the most underrated movies ever. I never hear anyone talk about it. Anyone I mention it to has never heard of it. Yet its got so much character and so much humour. Great performance from Russell Crowe, I'm actually not his biggest fan generally, but in this I think he plays the serious side of the comedy duo with amazing subtlety. Ryan Gosling is brilliant as usual, but with a much softer side then we often see. The supporting cast are also excellent. The Nice Guys brings noir style detective action together with slapstick comedy all wrapped up in a engaging story. Definitely in my top 50 favourites of all time.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Party Monster: Scratching the Surface (2018)
Nothing but a veneer
On the surface this is entertaining. But that's quite obviously nothing but a veneer, a pretty cover for a attack on people of a certain political persuasion.
I'm not one to prescribe to the idea that any mention of a idea or people in a bad light is a problem, because it isn't. Not if its just a vehicle to move forward a story in order to entertain.
But when a episode or movie relentlessly mocks one side throughout it becomes obvious that the entertainment aspect is secondary, That in fact the entertainment is just a vehicle to advance the attack on those people or ideas. Even worse it could be considered that hiding that point in entertainment becomes subliminal social engineering.
From the start this pushes far left views and attaches anyone on the other side to insane manipulative criminal behaviour.
Which is ironic because the insane manipulative behaviour is coming from the industry creating these shows.. You're there to entertain, not to educate us, and certainly not to do so on morals, because you're about as bankrupt on that score as a third world dictator.
Get back to trying to entertain, and otherwise please just shut up.
David Spade: Take the Hit (1998)
The best ever.
Simply the best comedy special ever IMO. Such hilarious, far fetched, insane, yet somehow endearing story telling. Just amazing. Spade is good in movies, but this is him at his best, that creepy dark humour you just don't see from him in movies.
Good Girls (2018)
Started great but..
Great at first, then turned into utter woke nonsense.
Villains (2019)
So sick of this...
If you can't come up with a decent story that works for at least 90 minutes without needing cheap tricks to draw it out, then just don't bother producing a movie at all. I mean this is mildly entertaining to some degree. But that's consistently counteracted when they make their characters act like mental deficients whenever it suits them, Just so they can continue the story without having to think of anything better.. I mean even the ending for god sake, that's just the epitome of the rubbish in this movie (won't go into detail so no spoiler). But the entire means to drive a car is below the dash!! You'll get what I'm talking about if you watch till the end. Just another example of creating a completely stupid situation that makes no sense simply because it suits the way they want the story to go and either can't or don't want to bother to think of anything better.
Running Scared (2006)
Oh wow....
This maybe wouldn't have seemed so utterly dreadful if I didn't go into it after seeing it had a 7.4 out of 10 here. That made me think it was almost certainly a good movie, but this is just awful. The acting is poor, the direction and camera work is terrible and just completely mixed up. Its like Max Payne directed by someone on a bad trip. I can only guess this gets such good reviews from Paul Walker fans. Nothing against the guy but a cult following is the only way I can explain the ratings here. This movie is a 5 at best and because of the disappointment its getting a 3.
StartUp (2016)
A sad, sad thing
The concept, and most of the actors are good. But it isn't consistent, in fact totally the opposite. Characters go from one extreme to the other at the drop of a hat. At one point, after struggling to find the capital to invest in a apparently incredibly safe and stable new currency, and after its stolen, they decide they should find more money to invest in this oh so infallible idea.. Despite it being hacked and losing $1.5m to begin with because the tech genius left her router connected to WiFi... I'm no genius, but the idea of what is effectively a bank leaving its central servers connected to WiFi is moronic. This series is basically a perfect example of what goes wrong when you try to make the concept of a story work without the ability to actually write convincing dialog or direct convincing scenes. The aim moves from creating realistic scenes, to finding a way to move the scene to the conclusion you want wether its believable or not, and usually its not. In short, this series is complete and utter shallow filler. Its flash and nothing else other than frustration at what could have been. Far better series have been cancelled after a season or two, the fact this got 3 is a sad sad thing..
Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press (2017)
A documentary of desperation
This documentary desperately tries to twist the facts in order to make this a issue of freedom of the press, and evil rich people trying to destroy freedom of speech. But it falls completely flat. What Gawker did was wrong, simple as that. They were rightly punished. The fact that the prosecution lowered their charges, in doing reducing the money they could earn as damages, to remove the defences insurances and put all costs on them personally is made out to be sinister. But in reality it shows that what they wanted was justice, not "damages". The idea that you can ruin lives and then have your insurance company pay damages for the privileged is sick, and these people consider that normal and can't understand why someone would want punishment for those individuals ahead of monetary gain?, they're pitiful.. so was this documentary.
