Burn This World, Set it on Fire. What is this world to me even if I get it??
(The song translation towards the end of the movie in TOWNHALL) (YEH DUNIYA AGAR MIL BHI JAAYE TOH KYA HAI)
"This world of palaces, thrones, and crowns. This world of societies that resent humanity. This world of those hungry for material wealth. What is this world to me, even if I get it? Each body is afflicted, each soul thirsty. With confused eyes and hearts full of sorrow. Is this the world or realm of the senseless. What is this world to me, even if I get it? In this world where existence of human is only a toy. It is nothing but an establishment which prays to statues. Where it costs less to die than to breathe. What is this world to me, even if I get it? Here youth wanders in apathy. Young bodies are decorated and sold in the markets. Where love is treated as a product to trade on. What is this world to me, even if I get it? This world where human life means nothing, Where Loyalty is nothing, where friendship is nothing. Where love has no meaning at all. What is this world to me, even if I get it?
Burn this world, set it on fire. Keep this world away from my sight. This world is yours, you take care of it. What is this world to me, even if I get it? "
This legendary film showcases life of a poet which doesn't have rainbows & butterflies in it, but a harsh, rough & real take on life. Considering the era in which it was made, this kind of film was considered as Cult as it was ahead of its time. It never tries to please you as a viewer but is magnificent in its own drooling way. You are to stick with Vijay (Guru Dutt) in his struggle and dwindle, and then finally the ecstatic peace, and its totally worth it. The poems are much to be praised about, and I wonder if it loses its touch, authenticity, integrity, or intensity while translating into any other language. The kind of moving power its dialog had is something which I hunt for in movies even today.
A brilliant form of art, an amazing piece of cinema. Its the one man behind it. GURU DUTT (the true legend in Indian Cinema).
I'd rate this brutal, realistic, and revolutionary cult-drama as 8.8/10.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
"Sell me this pen"...as it wrote a perspicuous blockbuster.
Terence Winters. Martin Scorsese. Leonardo Di Caprio.
The trio made pretty much of what The Wolf of Wall Street is all about. Belfort penned it, Terence adopted, Scorsese gave his splendid vision to the book and well all of it and everything else wouldn't make a crumb of a difference, had it not been DiCaprio to act with such an ease yet be marvelous at it. His acting and presence on celluloid took it to an entire different level altogether.
The movie is about a twisted robin hood, a tale which explores a swindled slice of life, its about a penny stockbroker who raised from nowhere and became an iconic figure for those who believed in him and themselves. He made a conglomerate where no one had a past from the same industry but yet were unanimous on the same platform. But as its said that when everything falls your way..you are in the wrong lane, and as every success has the failure standing at the door waiting for that one moment where you leave the doors open, Jordan Belfort was no exception. He falls, and falls hard.. so much so that he has to serve 36 months in prison..and with that, everything changes. Though I believe that this dwindle of Jordan Belfort could have been at least postponed (if not stopped), had he not been a doctrinaire which unfortunately he was that eventually led him to his own fall.
The story covers almost all the aspects of the book (as I read it before going for the movie), and is well driven by Terence Winters (screenplay) as the length could have been a drawback but well, it just comes at your face the very minute and finds a place in your bones as the time passes by. Martin Scorsese provides humongous efforts to keep the plot alive and is outstandingly successful in doing so, along with which, you can always see his trademarks in the movie like the lead facing internal and personal problems (mostly marital concerns).
I've always been a Scorsese fan, this was indeed not Scorsese cinema, nor was Shutter Island but well..as long as you get the dose and you like it..that's what really matters at the end of the day. And I totally enjoyed it as I'm myself a sales person and all my life, I've believed that sales is all about conversation and convincing, but this flick taught me an echt definition of sales. All hails to the trio. And I hope it bags at least 3 Oscars out of its 5 nominations this year.
I'd rate this astonishing comic sensation of the year as 9/10.
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela (2013)
A CONFUSE review with a CONFUSED mind of a CONFUSING movie.
The confusing part is to call it a good or bad movie which made me confuse to write a confused review.
Ughh...
Well let's see..
Direction -- Perfect ; Production Value -- Astonishing ; Editing -- Great ; Cinematography -- Fantabulous ; Art Direction -- Magnificent ; Concept -- Brilliant ; Story -- Nice * ; Screenplay -- God knows what was it like. It was complicated to judge whether it was pacey and crisp, or sluggish, dragging to nowhere and repetitive. ; Performances -- Amazing (Deepika did a great job) ; Music -- Okay.
So... what happened in the movie was that everything was near to equilibrium but couldn't achieve what it would have otherwise.
A good adaptation from Romeo & Juliet blended with commix of Indian masala and a sensible approach but with the ongoing screenplay, at times film went stupid, blunt stupid. The characters became dumb and chips fell in the wrong lane. It felt like everything that was bounded together to make it an excellent piece of cinema went lost somewhere which eventually wasted a beautiful love- saga into an average-to-good romantic-drama flick.
It deserves a watch for sure, but only to give you disappointment later on because everything in the movie will set your expectations on cloud 9 but it will keep on crashing those expectations at spaces.
I'd rate this lost epic as 6/10.
And I still hope someone could have read the script again before executing it so that to make those minute changes which would have given success to such a hard effort by everyone on-and-off the camera in putting up a commendable canvas of art.
Boss (2013)
This is anything but the Cinema, this is the reason why I keep away from Bollywood Entertainers.
Its just not me to review such titles but I'll keep it crisp this time.
The movie is hell of a disaster in terms of story, screenplay, execution, camera-work, cinematography, editing and what not.
I am one of the huge fans of Akshay Kumar. This guy has the kind of potential which you will hardly get in the whole industry but channelization of what you are blessed with is equally important to create the magic in your work where Mr. Kumar lacks like anything. Whenever I watch his movie, I wonder why he signed it at first place, I mean 20 years in the industry and you cannot make the right choices..SHAME.
The movie has nothing to talk much about. A cliché, stereotype bollywood masala. A guy abandoned by his father due to misunderstandings and picked up by a contractor messiah by chance. 15 years and yet he is not in touch with his father till consequences lead his father to give a contract to 'Boss' (Akshay) to kill the inspector Ayushmann (Ronit Roy). What next is that follows a ride of ups and downs which has its moments of emotional content and breaks the stone to heal the wound between father and son. And the end is when everyone and everything is happy and at peace. FIN.
There is nothing to cheer about in the movie apart from 2 songs..'Do lafz ki hain..' and 'PARTY all night' which is stunning and terrific..brilliant camera angles and great choreography topped with youthful and zealous lyrics and Yo-Yo Honey Singh's electro-live voice. The rap had me tapping feet on floor. The next good thing is performance of Ronit Roy as a corrupt inspector. I've been his fan since 'Udaan' and he was yet again carrying the maturity in such a senseless movie like Boss.
I'd rate it 2/10 for its non-sense script, creepy execution, and characters that are loud in a strange fashion.
P.S - Don't waste the time with this. This is cinema...NOT.
B.A. Pass (2012)
The sexy auntie & A Graduate in an erotic drama!
The film is chopped, crisped, short and feasible. This one is an erotic tale (will not leave you high and dry, no matter even if your 'hunger' is sated on the grandiose stage). Its sexually charging A-rated flick and hence we'll be digging into this with the same mood in the review.
B.A Pass has its moments of the harsh truth and reality that's still subliminal in India's 'culture' and ethically followed under the four walls of a closed room. Though in order to tackle a personal pseudo- fiction or psyche-trauma and similarly revealing the social scale 'dhanda' (business) of prostitution, it made too much altogether to cover up in the runtime of 95 minutes. The 'camel of the desert' (director) tried to do justice to everything he wanted to show or unravel but then it was so much so, that despite of the débutant director's honest and struggling effort..things were left untold, mummed, and eloquent (negatively) due to its not at all good editing, lacking story and the runtime it had. The messages that the director or writer wanted to showcase were outstanding and deserve a flawless 10/10 but the movie is not judged upon the ideas, it depends on the execution of those ideas on paper and then on the screen..and that's where it lacks partially.
Its based on a short story 'Railway Aunty' and has been adopted nicely by Ritesh Shah (story and screenplay) but lacks to transform it into a larger picture. The film tells about how easy it is to get laid in New Delhi (kidding..a Lil' bit)..it tells about the vicious circle of eroticism and prostitution that's easy to get into because of its luring attractions and ease of income but hard to get out due to its worse than a nightmare consequences. (remember the piece of cheese in the rat-trap?!). It explains the need of the money and utilitarian approach of attaining the most of it by a consumerist society, deals with morality, emotions and the true colors of life in a realistic fashion. It also reveals the truth about the ongoing and prosperous rackets in even the urban (highly accessible law & order) cities of the 'modern' India (pun intended). Then it even deals with the sexual frustrations after marriage, helpless individuals seeking 'social services' in form of prostitutes or gigolos, how the innocent lives are ruined due to this NEVER GONNA END vulgarity, and also it traps that how your life reacts onto the choices that you make.
Direction is good and honest. Screenplay and story should have been worked upon. Editing disappointed me due to its lack of power to let the viewers shove their heads in the theme of the movie or to feel its continuity. The cinematography was brilliant and justified the script with its dark look. The camera work was nice and again justifying and locations were raw (as required). There is no song in the movie (I think) but the theme during the climax is haunting and gets you going along with the situation. The performances are great and the lady (Shilpa Shukla) deserves a standing ovation for her magnificent portrayal and marvelous acting, the way she carried her role..with so much ease, it made me a fan of her work, and well not to forget her physique in the movie. She looked smoking hot all the while with her colorful bras, dark lipstick and natural yet flamboyant moaning.
I'd rate this lot to be told but less delivered cult erotica as 7.5/10.
Ship of Theseus (2012)
Overwhelming! A true piece of art in its purest form.
Ship of Theseus stands out among the recent crop of Indian indie films for both its concerns and rich cinematic expressions. This is a highly accomplished film that bedazzles both at the level of idea and execution.
Gandhi makes his intentions clear right in the beginning. Ship of Theseus opens with a shot of an eye blinking to light. Gandhi wants to open our eyes to the brave new world that he portrays. A world that demands a different sensibility to appreciate it.
Ship of Theseus tells the stories of three disparate characters connected thematically. The three protagonists of the film undergo life-changing journeys once the very essence of their being is challenged. Aliya took to photography after she lost her sight. She is an acclaimed photographer whose boyfriend describes to her each of her photographs in minute details. Her life is about to change as she is soon going to regain her sight after a cornea transplant. Gandhi uses the potent setting aptly as backdrop for a discourse on the purpose of art and the relationship between creator and creation.
This story is adventurously photographed by the DoP Pankaj Kumar who uses the interplay between light and shadow to build the mood. It's remarkable the way he uses overexposure as a tool instead of an anomaly.
In the second chapter, Maitreya, an intellectual Jain monk is posed with the question of his life. He has spent his life campaigning against cruelty performed on animals in pharmaceutical laboratories. Now he finds himself caught in a situation where only those drugs can save his life that have been tested on animals. Now he have to decide between his strong set of principles and the need of the hour questioning the meaning and purpose of life as well as dealing with Silence of God over humanity and the afterlife.
Neeraj Kabi's performance as the monk is one of the highlights of the story. He redefines what it means to get into the skin of a character. The protégé is something to look for his dialogs.
While the first two stories are about extra-ordinary characters caught in extra-ordinary situations, the third one deals with a lesser mortal – a money-minded stockbroker who lives a life immersed in his business. His social activist grandmother tries her best to "reform" him but in vain. It has a bit of humor too. Though the segment differs from the first two slightly in its tone due to a few loud performances by secondary characters, it affects the most. It works because of its protagonist who can be related to due to his urban middle class origin and humaneness. He redeems himself and realizes the instinct of morality.
Ship of Theseus is life changing because its protagonists go through life changing journeys. These are no ordinary people: a photographer who is blind. A Jain monk who has to make a choice between dying for his ideology or living to fight for it. An obsessive stock broker who has a trading terminal installed even in his hospital room while he is going through a liver transplant.
Gandhi constructs each of these chapters like a discourse – Aliya, the artist in self-doubt has a professor-author boyfriend who is in the habit of liking things. One of the high points of the first chapter is a long take where both of them argue about art and the need to create it. In the second chapter, the Jain monk Maitreya is pitted against Charvaka. Here the names chosen for the characters are also interesting. In Buddhist tradition, Maitreya is the Bodhisatva who is yet to appear on earth and teach the world the true Dharma, while Charvaka is one of the first materialist philosophers of the world who famously said, "Yavad Jivet Sukham Jivet, Rinam Litva Dhritam Pivet" (Live happily, till your life comes to an end. Don't hesitate to even borrow to have lavish food). And the third chapter is an argument between a social activist grandmother and her money-minded grandson.
The film derives its title from a paradox in philosophy called "Ship of Theseus". It's best described through a story – each of the planks of the ship of Theseus was changed one by one over a period of time, does it still remain the ship of Theseus? While it might sound too "intellectual" – Ship of Theseus derives its power from simplicity. The film isn't only accessible but it also has its lighter moments. Apart from being a serious dialog on the purpose of art and life, it is also simple stories well-told. I would like to believe that Ship of Theseus belongs to the ancient Indian school of discourse where storytelling is used as a means to pose serious questions and seek answers.
Ship of Theseus is a powerful and moving film that's certainly going to be remembered as one of the most powerful Indian debuts of recent times.
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013)
Milkha bann gaya India - A SUCCESSFUL EFFORT!!
I watched a Paid-Preview of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag last night and I was star-strucked by its fame watching the house-full crowd in the theater (as if it is the first day of the release). When I first watched its teaser in October last year and first trailer in January..it had me going since then, and now I am happy that my expectation was worth it.
BRIEF STORY & REVIEW SKETCH.
The film is about Milkha Singh and introspects his being through the eyes of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. There are no twists or turns in the movie but its just a tale told on a clean slate. Film starts with a defeat in Olympics, carried on when Milkha refuses to visit Pakistan (has his valid reasons for doing so) but Pt. Nehru sends Milkha's latter and former coach to Chandigarh so that they can convince him for the tour. During the train-journey, Pavan Malhotra (former coach) reveals the story of Milkha Singh and his reason to not visit Pakistan to the other two gentlemen which unleashes an assiduous, interesting and penultimate story about the legend. This Sikh has been running his whole life, starting his first race for a glass of milk to the Olympics..and never ending. It reminds me of the great metaphor ' The race of Life'. Milkha Singh ran to save his life, to eat, to dream, for love, for country, for passion and to overcome his own personal fears, ''and what a run it was!''. BMB traces his scarred childhood, brutalized by India's partition ; followed by penury and petty crimes. He finds the purpose of life when he falls for Beeru (Sonam). Joins the Indian Army and since then his passion, eagerness and situations along with the efforts (negative & positive both) made by different people led him to become an athlete, a runner who remained uncased even by his own daemons. He keeps on breaking records but witnesses a heartbreaking defeat in Rome Olympics (1960) but thats not it, he takes it in his stride, overcomes his catastrophic past which was the cause of Olympic defeat and emerges out to be a clear winner.
OVERVIEW
ROPM delivers yet again a tale in his own style (fond of changing tones in his films), where the length is bit of a disappointment otherwise the content heals the flaw with a superb execution and sticky pace, that tops with Farhan Akhtar's outstanding performance (the actor gave his blood n sweat into the character) and he emerges out to be the soul of the movie physically and mentally. The story by Prasoon Joshi is admirable and the track 'Zinda' is well written by him, beautifully composed by Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy and descriptively choreographed by Shaimak Davar. The background score by the trio adds on to the whole movie. The performances from the other cast is noticeable where Divya Dutta deserves a special mention (Hats off to the lady for creating a great impact in spite of having such a small role) The film truly deserves to be one of the best that Bollywood has offered this year so far and I hope to see some more in-depth biopics like this in coming future.
I'd rate this dig-till-hell marvel biopic as 8/10.
Lootera (2013)
Celluloid motion-picture romance..but sadly of no use!
Lootera almost lacks to steal the heart despite its haunting images of nature, embodying fleetingly still moments of passion between its two protagonists. While Pakhi's soulful yearning for companionship and love stirs the chord somehow, it does not quite overwhelm you as it is overshadowed by the skullduggery of Varun, her object of passion. I appreciate that no other director in recent times has invested so much into cinematic expressions to make a steady stream of emotions pregnant with meanings through silent glances ; and Silence itself but again the pace is what drives you in a movie that lacks here and hence cannot be commenciated as 'classic' (as some may call it) not just because of its terribly slow pace but lack of content in the story as well. Sadly though there is an underwhelming display of intensity, more by Varun (Ranveer Singh) than Paakhi (Sonakshi Sinha, first serious attempt of actress to soak into potpourri of emotions). The broad brushes of storyline with thin content and matter highlighting the contours more than portraying dark colors of emotional conflicts scorching the two souls who are trying to come to terms of undercurrents of their love, fills you more to that edacity for sheer artistic achievement in every perspective that is sated on the grandiose stage after the simplicity and intellectuality that the director tries to draw from the nostalgic frames or the simplicity of the movie, only to leave you disappointed in the end. Motwane as a director though marched ahead with this venture of modern raconteur of opulent but failed love but the story, screenplay, lacks to convince. Lootera is over-hyped critically acclaimed state-of-art. Again i'd say no doubt that it is a cinematic marvel with its enthrilling visuals, cinematography and painting vision but the pace of the movie is slow, monotonous, predictable and dull. And we must remember that every film that is slow and artistic visually is not 'evergreen' , 'classic' , 'mature' or 'intellectual'. It didn't personally move me to pieces which Motwane tried throughout the movie and I wished I could have spent that time to read a book or eat good food meanwhile. I write stories myself but then, when thoughts like these (on which the whole movie is based) cross my mind, I rather try to pass or avoid scripting them at least because they are certainly beautiful but can't worth a million views as they lack content. So there lies the success and limitations of Vikramaditya Motwane's Lootera though as far as his dedication and direction is concerned, he remains the master behind the canvas, and I truly look for some REAL classic eloquent venture of the director after a era-cult neo-noir Udaan (Definition of class for me). I'd rate Lootera 4/10 and that too for Motwane's appealing direction, beautiful cinematography and strong performances (Sonakshi specially)..and of course the SILENCE.
Bombay Talkies (2013)
Bombay Talkies is Slice of Life..But only for whose hunger is for artistic cinema. PART I.
When I clicked on 'Write a Review' I was just thinking what to write, because this flick showcased things that are beyond words for me. I can never explain the true emotions for the movie in words. But lets try.
OKAY, so after watching movies like Race 2, Aatma, Himmatwala, Chashme Baddoor, Ek Th Dyan, Iron Man 3 etc. Finally I watched a meaningful, sensible, mature and cult cinema with Bombay Talkies which finally delivered what I was waiting for since the year started. Penultimate humor, drooling scenes, moving dialogs, sketchy screenplay and flawless execution in pure art form with no 'masala' makes it a masterpiece for me. Now I won't recommend it to all as for sure there'd be a group of people who will like it thoroughly and among them, even lesser will understand its true worth.
BOMBAY TALKIES.
** REVIEW & SUMMARY **
It is made to celebrate the 100 years of Indian Cinema and it shows its impact on our lives. That's the creme layer about it, deep within the movie basically deals with the THOUGHT PROCESS of different people, their mentality, approaches, reactions and treatment towards different topics and the way of life. It is also about the skills honed by them accordingly, shedding its root somehow or the other from an impact of Indian Cinema on them. Four ace directors come with four segments (25-30 minutes each) in total which are diversified by the topics they deal with and no strings attached in the stories. And hence let's dig deeper into them individually but in my second review.
For crisp and short, all in all, Bombay Talkies was a lovely journey, a delectable twist this year after so many trash movies, a brilliant and intellectual masterpiece, pure form of art and a tale that does not only celebrate the completion of 100 years of Indian cinema but also reacts as a mirror for us to wake up and think while relinquish this 'Watch the movie-leave the theater' attitude along with quenching the thirst for more of these kind of eccentric movies and the change of taste for commercial oriented audience and movie-makers. As a whole I would rate Bombay Talkies for its blunt and artistic approach towards commercial mass as 8.2/10.
I, Me Aur Main (2013)
Not the BEST, but definitely deserves a SHELF-LINE...
The movie is crisp..short (95 minutes)..bright..feel-good and most importantly justifies the title and delivers what was expected of it.
I am more inclined towards the 'redeeming movies' (as I call them) where you have to leave your popcorn aside and stay focused in the movie and also where the main lead realizes and redeems himself..movies like INTO THE WILD (2007), WAKE UP SID (2009), ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA (2011), and now I, ME AUR MAIN (2013) are some of the films which fall into that category for me.
BRIEF STORY & CHARACTER SKETCH
Story is about a guy Ishaan (John Abraham) who is engrossed in self, corpuscular, egocentric, self-centered, inconsiderate, narcissistic, unconcerned and spoiled brat and music producer, who never values anyone or anything above him. Her live-in girlfriend Anushka (Chitrangda Singh) who loves him blindly but does not like the attitude of Ishaan towards his life and responsibilities. His mom (Zarina Wahab) is a supportive mother who is dealing with her decisions she took years back and is inclined towards Ishaan. She can be seen supporting him when he was only a kid in the first scene of the movie itself. He meets a girl Gauri (Prachi Desai), who helps him feel n realize the value of relations, the mishaps with her girlfriend makes him responsible and focused, and an incident with her mother towards the end of the movie makes him cognizant about his own self, and with all this he realizes where he is leading with his bright, cheerful, colorful yet monotonous life, that encounter with his mother helps Ishaan meet his real own self, helps an embryonic man-child to take charge of his so far in-vain life. And all of these factors and mishaps in his life helps him to become mature, focused, serious, principled, responsible towards his life and relations making him eventually a better person as a whole.
OVERVIEW
Its Kapil Sharma's debut attempt and I must say that he made a decent start. The movie could have been better in terms of acting and the level of emotions it was trying to convey. The direction was fresh and effective. The story was one of the best thing in the movie which was penned by Devika Bhagat who had also written earlier marvelous screenplay for BACHNA AE HASEENO (2008) and helped director Navdeep Singh in the story/screenplay for the cult MANORAMA SIX FEET UNDER (2007). Talking about the music, its fresh but could have been better to let the viewers feel the crunch of the matter. The best part is the length of the movie which is only 95 minutes and you see a whole journey of a guy from ignorance to cognition. The only flaw is that the screenplay missed several emotions which the story demanded and many of them were also skipped just to make a short-duration movie. The movie lacks stability and loses the interest as well in parts but Kapil Sharma tries hard to bind it together, though unsuccessfully. Acting is mediocre by everyone and in fact John Abraham can be seen making weird faces in the whole movie but stabilizes during few scenes towards the end. The only one who understood what film demands off her was Prachi Desai (Gauri) but even she was also not at her equilibrium. Where the acting disappointed me, the could-be-better portrayed story and direction entertained me equally making this flick a good one to go for this weekend which also holds a repeat value.
DON'T FALL FOR NEGATIVE REVIEWS PEOPLE WILL WRITE IN BULK FOR THIS MOVIE AND DON'T GO WITH THE RATING STARS YOU SEE AT THE TOP. SOME FILMS JUST CAN'T MAKE IT THROUGH WITH EVERYONE AND YOU MIGHT BE ONE OF THEM, BUT THAT DOES NOT PROVE ITS WORTH. IF YOU BELIEVE THAT A MOVIE IS GOOD IF THE MESSAGE IS CLEAR WHILE YOU GET ENTERTAINED ALL THE WHILE, THIS IS THE MOVIE TO RUSH FOR.
MY RATING - 7/10 |NUDITY - NO| |SEX - NO| |VIOLENCE - NO| |LANGUAGE - UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED| |DRUGS - NO|

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
EXCELSIOR..That's what this Light Hearten Rom-Com is all about.
O Man!! The last time I had the same feeling after watching any movie was with Frank Capra's IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT (1934), De Sica's Ladri Di Biciclette (BYCYCLE THIEVES), Hayao Miyazaki's Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (SPIRITED AWAY) or Shoojit Sircar's VICKY DONOR (2012) among few. These movies make me feel fresh after watching them. They kinda make my day. The life is already hard, and then movies like this work as a sheer relief to the hectic schedules and overload of work.
This is one of those movies where you can sit with popcorn and coke, relax on a lounge and enjoy the evening with one of the most fine Rom-Com of this year. The most appropriate movie for spending a quality time with your loved ones.
It is a happy-and-gay-feel movie where you need not try hard understanding the complications of it, you can just lay back and go with the flow as the movie promises a 110% entertainment. Its easy, smooth, fun, decent, clean, cheerful, light-hearten and beautiful.
BRIEF STORY & CHARACTER SKETCH
The movie deals with Pat's (Bradley Cooper) life after he gets discharged from a mental asylum. He is on a Restraining Order. He is completely devoted towards her wife who left him now and they are not living with each other. In the whole movie he struggles to get to Nikky, his wife in several ways while he comes across many harsh realities of life and explores the love. Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) is a widow who finds solace in sex with almost everyone she meets, which has a really touching reason of doing so that she explains later in the movie. Pat Sr. (Sir Robert De Niro) is Pat's father who is a typical old man and is very superstitious. He is a bookmaker and a die-hard EAGLES fan. Dolores is Pat's mother who is again a typical old lady and want everyone in the family to be happy and at peace. And last but not the least is Dr. Cliff Patel (Anupam Kher) who is a psychiatrist (Pat's Doctor) and also a motivational source behind helping Pat & Tiffany to be friends with each other. The film is a light hearten one and hence the story does not revolve around a major plot but still never loses the beauty in its simplification.
OVERVIEW
David O. Russell has already proved himself as a director with lot of potential in THREE KINGS and THE FIGHTER. And this time he excels and out-stands all his previous works with SILVER LINING PLAYBOOK. Here he delivers his best execution till date with nice and decent camera angles and with a pacy, nice, crisp yet descriptive screenplay which he wrote himself for the screen. The production design is something to praise for and the editing by Jay Cassidy who also marvelously edited 'Into The Wild' (2007), its top notch this time as well. Bradley Cooper was at his equilibrium peak (specially in the scene where he tries to find his wedding video.) and could have been a clear academy award winner for Best Actor if Lincoln would not have happened this year. Jennifer Lawrence was at her best and Sir De Niro was as expressive as always with his evergreen expressions and natural yet flamboyant nature of acting, rest of the cast is also a great support as well and provides the expected performances. And the best thing in the movie - the background score - the music of the film by Danny Elfman, its so appropriate and soothing. For those who read the novel by Mathew Quick, trust me guys its still going to appeal you like all fresh.
RATING
I will rate this flick 8.5/10. Its truly one of the best films this year. And a must watch for all those who are looking to spend 2 hours watching a 'time-worthy light-hearten' movie with a shelf line. David O. Russell made it to the hearts of all this time which he lacked with his previous ventures and a vital support to help him in this if not the only one is Bradley Cooper. My man, this film goes to your performance. Two Thumbs-up for the movie!
Nudity : NO. Sex : NO. Language : GOOD enough to watch with kids. Drugs : NO. Violence : NO

Aisha (2010)
An average flick...with average performances and below average storyline!!
i watched the flick today and i din' find it convincing...i was expecting a bit more from it..it did not even had the level of entertainment value one would expect watching the trailers of this movie..i went to watch the movie to enjoy to the fullest...thinking of it as one of the urban comedies that would make me laugh..and get involved with the movie...and i came back from the cinema hall reluctantly..
Talking about performances..well they were just average...Abhay Deol's expressions were nice...but he was not able to carry himself with the story and the plot of the movie..Sonam was as disgusting as ever when it comes to act...though she looked cute in it..Ira Dubey was much better on CHICKS ON FLICKS rather than wasting her time here and even smooching Cyrus Sahukar...m.k. Raina was just jumping along with the lead actors trying hard as if he is turned 25 again...Cyrus Sahukar was as he is..and others also gave just average performances...yupp..the only girl i can praise is Amrita Puri...being her debut movie...she did a great job..acted better than Sonam Kapoor and many other experienced actors...she was really convincing..
the music was very cool..specially the song "GAL MITTHI MITTHI BOL" is already my one of the favorite of recent times..and the title track "AISHA" is also nice...the direction was somehow fresh..but was again just an average direction..cinematography was good...screenplay was okish except in few scenes when it became ultra-slow..
all in all...the movie was just average..with a below average story and content..
i would rate it 4 / 10 this week...go for DESPICABLE ME..instead of AISHA..at least you would enjoy much more than watching AISHA..!!
LSD: Love, Sex Aur Dhokha (2010)
Dibakar proved himself...for the third time!!
LSD was a film not made with hyper-cryper budget...just a budget of 1.5 crore and a film which is not even tried by any other film-maker in bollywood..film has three stories...all of them developed well...and the violence in the first story...when those guys cut the couple in pieces..i was thinking that even QUENTIN Tarantino haven't showed such violence in his films...i was really feeling sad for them..and the way the whole movie goes is really outstanding..i knew that dibakar had the potential bt now after watching LSD...i am damn sure that he cannot give a flick which is not worth being called legendary..he has become my top most fav. director..the thngs he put up in his films is sumthing which we experience in our daily life...every small small things he keep in his mind while making filmz...5 years as a director..3 films at a gap of two years each..nd the most clean record anyone could have ever made in my opinion...khosla ka ghosla...9.0...oye lucky...8.9...and LSD..8.8..though i rated it 10 as i want it to get good stars on IMDb...dibakar rocks...a must watch film for everyone..and don't watch it with your girlfriend...would b better..!!
8.8 / 10
12 Angry Men (1957)
Worst movie in top 10...infact doezn't deserve to be in top 250 list!!
"12 angry men" was really a disappointment for a guy like me who waited for 1 hour to watch a story in the film...but after an hour i have realized that how wrong i was to download such a film..i was so much desperate to watch dis flick and in the end it disappointed very much.
I've heard people saying it is a simple story though i din' found it simple rather i found it irritating. There was no reason for making such movie and moreover no reason to share a place in top 10 list.
I can not see even a single positive point about the film except few dialogues..few dialogues were excellent..henry fonda was average but unfortunately sidney lumet nowhere shows the direction which i was expecting from such a good director.
Just 12 jurors fighting on a murder and the life of the kid was in their hands. 11 were in the favor of GUILTY for the kid, while one was saying the kid on whom the blame was to kill his father was NOT GUILTY and after more than 1 hour of distracting and boring discussion the alone juror who feels the kid was not guilty was successful in changing the mind of other 11 jurors and in the end saved the life of the kid.
Watch it on your on sake.. 3.9/10.
