Is this a movie? I don't think so.
30 April 2023
Reading the reviews of this "movie" I see that people are actually giving a review of the time they went saw this on Broadway or wherever. And I'm sure this is a great play, but it is not a movie.

All they did was record the play. If you want to watch a play, but don't want to go to theater, then this is great option, but it shouldn't be called a movie. I know what some of you are thinking, "what about musicals, this is just like a musical." Well I wish that were true, but its not. Les Mis starring Hugh Jackman, now that is Movie based on a musical.

Now that my rant is over I'll say the music was good, and it would probably be one of my favorite shows to go see on broadway, but as "movie" I give this a four as it lacks many of the things that make a movie a movie and not just a recording of a live event.

Death Note (I) (2017)
8/10
A good movie with biased reviews.
26 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Just got done watching Death Note. I really liked it so I was quite surprised to see such a low score here on IMDb (5.0). It was confusing so I started reading the reviews to see why people didn't like it and every one star review said virtually the same thing, "source material is sooo much better." That, however, is irrelevant to whether or not this is a good movie. People are obviously giving this a dishonest and biased review because they love the original more. They are not judging it objectively and dispassionately, and perhaps they can't, so let me do it.

First let me say I have not seen or read the source material, therefore my opinion of this movie is not biased by some cult like love for the source material, unlike all the one star reviews I have seen here.

I wasn't sure if I would like this movie after seeing the preview, but I was curiously optimistic and thankfully I wasn't let down. The story is great obviously, which explains why the manga has such fervent admirers. I thought it was well cast, and I had no complaints about the acting. I really liked the cinematography. It was clean and crisp most the time with several creative shots or transitions that made the movie interesting but weren't distracting. I liked the wide angle shots and the slow twisting of the camera in certain shots that made them creepy. The movie does seem to speed through parts of the story that could be very interesting but I understand making a series fit into an hour and half will require some things to be omitted or glossed over, all in all it works. The movie held my attention from start to finish and I honestly never knew what was going to happen. What really makes this movie interesting is that main character, Light, has an arch rival simply known as "L" Light and "L" are both very brilliant. 'L" is a super genius detective and Light has supernatural power with his possession of the Death Note. They are like Sherlock Holmes and James Moriarty. But which one is the good guy? At first we are rooting for Light but things become messy. While we know Light has made mistakes we still end up rooting for him in the end, although, if "L" were to exact justice against Light we'd probably be OK with that too.

I'm sure if I had seen or read the originals I would be a little let down, but thankfully I watched this first and was able to really enjoy it. I'm definitely going to check out the animated series.

TL;DR If you haven't seen or read the original, you'll really like this well made movie.

Mac and Me (1988)
1/10
The worst thing humanity has ever created
31 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This movie will make you wish you'd never been born. Each minute that you continue to watch this movie you will find your will to live quickly being sucked out of you. If you haven't killed yourself by the time everyone busts out dancing in the McDonalds, that will surely send you into a hatred for life for which you may never recover. Unfortunately I don't own a gun or I would have taken my own life and saved myself from having to watch the second half. The scene where they drive Mac into the desert and he holds up his hands and does this stupid whistle to find his family which are almost dead in a cave made me start bashing my head against the wall in hopes that I would black out. Sadly I did not, and I now I must live the rest of my life with the nightmarish memories of this movie. I feel depressed and hopeless. I pray everyday that aliens really do exist and that they kill every last person on this planet. We don't deserve to survive as a species if we can make a movie like this.

So bad you won't want to stop watching.
31 March 2017
Like a train wreck you won't be able to look away from this movie, no matter how awful it gets. At times you'll ask yourself if they were trying to make a bad movie on purpose just so we could laugh at it in the future. If you like Kung Fury and want to see the exact kind of over the top martial arts cop movie it was spoofing this is it. The acting, horrible. The action, completely ridiculous. The plot, written by a ten year old boy. I've literally never seen cheesier acting, fighting choreography, editing, or music, all with every 80's cliché you can think of wrapped into one movie. Entertaining? HELL YES!

More of the same
3 May 2016
Aren't you getting sick of seeing the same characters doing the same things? How many Marvel movies do we need this year? Maybe its just me but I'm getting bored seeing the the same old stuff.

The first half of the this movie was extremely dull as they set up the premise for the civil war. You'll know exactly when it starts getting exciting. Its moment you saw in the previews when they introduce Spider-man. In fact, Spider-man was my favorite part of the movie and the only reason I didn't hate it. His lines are funny and his interaction with the other characters is very entertaining. Tom Holland will become your favorite Spiderman.

The only other part of this movie that I found entertaining was the other new character Black Panther. Without these two new characters this movie would just be same old characters doing the same old stuff. Yes, Marvel has great characters and great actors to play those characters, but that doesn't mean I want to see a movie with them every other week.

P.S. If you haven't seen all the other Captain America, Avengers, and Ironman movies you'll probably be lost. I believe all movies should be able to stand alone, even in a trilogy, but if you haven't seen those other movies you're not going to understand a lot of whats going on.

German vs English versions
8 August 2015
If you get this film on BluRay it includes both the German version and an English language version. I watched the original German not realizing at first that they made an English version and that it was included on the BluRay. The subtitles were good but its difficult sometimes for someone like myself who likes to appreciate the visual artistry of a film (framing, lighting, acting etc). So when I noticed that the Blu-Ray included the English version I decided to watch it again. Big mistake! You'll notice right away that the film isn't as good. Most of the English version is just dubbed over but some scenes were actually shot in English. You'd think it would be the same basic film but it wasn't. They edited it differently. Some scenes were cut short. Other shots were left out completely, or changed. The scenes shot in English were noticeable not as good and its thought that the Fritz Lang didn't direct the English parts.

In summary, only watch this film in German.
