The Magic of Ordinary Days (2005)
Simple Love story
Gosh ... this is such a simple story yet it pulls the strings of my heart. I am so moved by Ray's love for Livy. And Livy's courage in being able to put behind everything that had happened.
She had experienced so much hurt. Yet she was able to move on with her life. It taught me that sometimes, you really have to let go of your hurts, to be able to see a more beautiful future.
The setting of the movie also adds on, given the fact that it's war time, yet people are still making the best with what they have. Livy's friendship with Rose and Florey also shows what a sincere person Livy is.
Killerdeului suda (2001)
A different kind of killer movie
I watched this movie with a preconception of it being filled with gory scenes of people being killed by these 4 professional killers. BUT I was so wrong!!! This is one of those professional killer movies not just for the gung-ho guys, but also for the artistic folks out there and gals who just wanna oggle at the good-looking killers.
I must say that the cinematography is good. And boy, am I impressed by the story plot. The writer's just so good to depict various ways to kill someone.
And the movie makes you accept killing like an everyday affair, just like eating or bathing. A must-see movie for those of you who are keen on watching movie with plots that are out-of-the-ordinary!
Pinpon (2002)
It's gotta take a while ... ... *possible spoiler*
I have watched this movie recently when it was being screened in Singapore. Before the movie was out, I've heard a lot about it from entertainment reviews. Initially, I watched it mainly with the intention for Arata. (",)
And also, before watching the movie, I sorta carried some expectations for it coz' it's a Japanese movie. I've always known Japanese movie plots to have some kind of deep content, just like [Love Letter]. However, during the first hour of the movie, I was kinda irritated by the ever-slow pace.
I felt that the movie was not moving anywhere at all. Very typical scenes and script. It was only after the whole movie that I had some thoughts from.
Like some of the others who commented about this movie. Yes, this is a story truly about friendship. 'Smile' may have true talent for ping pong, in fact, could be better than 'Peko'.
However, he never really wanted to outshine 'Peko'. Why is that so? Was it becoz' he took pity on 'Peko', as some would say?
Or was it friendship? Becoz' 'Smile' knew that 'Peko' was full of pride and often confident of his own skills. He knew deep down if 'Peko' failed, he would lose it all.
Through a simple story, this movie has truly shown how friendship exists through sportsmanship. Please do not under-estimate this story. If you carefully think about the movie after watching it, I'm sure you'll reap much more than I did.
My friend who watched with me certainly got much more out of it than me. But I guess I'll leave it to him to post his share of comments. Oh yah ... and when you watch it, try to figure out why there is always a star on 'Peko's ping pong bat and his clothes and why there's a moon on 'Smile's.
It's very easy actually but it took me quite a while to get it. Hhahahhaha.
