Land of the Dead (2005)
Romero's 2nd Best
I have seen the entire Dead series, including the remakes of Night and Dawn. Night of the Living Dead(1968) has to be my favorite still due to it's beyond disturbing ending.
Land is Romero's second best with it's chilling gore scenes and much more streamlined screenplay. I may be called a idiot by not liking his motifs in Dawn or Day, but he managed to get both a look at the class system and a zombie-action gore fest that not only has put EVERY ZOMBIE MOVIE EVER MADE to shame, but also nearly made me vomit, in a good way.
*MILD SPOILER*
Although the ending seems a bit campy, it makes much more sense than DAWN(1979) or DAY's endings. It was a way to go out good.
P.S. Shaun of the Dead Fans, look for Simon Pegg(Shaun) and Edgar Wright(Ed) as the photo zombies in the casino/bar/Brothel.
The Doors: Live in Europe 1968 (1990)
Best damn Concert of 1968 Movie
Man, I saw this movie three times on a flight from New Zealand to LA. It is better than most movies on concerts. I almost yelled some of the lyrics on the plane. Great ending at Morrison's Grave. I have use up more lines so the Unknown Soldier play when it looks like Morrison gets shot is good and Jeffersons Airplane's bashing of modern artist is funny.
A Bridge Too Far (1977)
A Turning Point in War Movies
A Bridge Too Far is a excellent movie. It was made just as the big war movies were ending (Kelly's Heroes, Midway, etc.) and the serious, gory war movies (Apocalypse Now, The Beast) were about to begin. It's actually more like a hybrid. It focuses on the Operation: Market Garden abroad and not just to one squad or general. It shows the battles without just blood and guts.
Movie making wise, it was wisely created but very long. It's Cinematography was revolutionary especially for the paratroop scene. The shots seem like Band of Brothers and it focuses of the loss of life more than the objective.
Overall, on my top 10 war movie list.
