Prooi (2016)
Watch in original Dutch audio with the English subtitles
Do NOT bother with the English dubbed version!!! In fact ALWAYS avoid audio alterations as acting is best appreciated in the original language of its delivery... that said, I'm mainly watching this because of Julian Looman, who sounds just like one of Viennese cousins! But ACTUALLY it's a surprisingly well done horror (comedy) film although I don't think the comedy aspect was marketed in the English version in fact, that's WHY the dubbed versions always suck so hard, comedy just doesn't translate, does it? Nuance and idiom have some hope of being translated via a good subtitles artist, is that a thing?
The Vast of Night (2019)
Set in New Mexico but filmed in Texas & Oklahoma
It seems strange that movie set in a small New Mexico town gets filmed mostly in Texas but I guess it makes sense since most of a Buddy Holly's music was recorded not in Lubbock, TX but across the border in Clovis... anyway, speaking of the 50s, that's when this strange, moody, thriller is set. It's a little bit M. Night Shyamalan mixed with the Cloverfield films and just a dash of the Roswell series
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
Huge Kudos to the armorers on this film!
The best thing about this movie is the scene where they're fighting to get the A Class motor home; Harrelson uses a Steyr AUG bullpup action rifle... this is significant because Woody is a left-handed shooter and this is the only assault rifle that can be specifically configured to accommodate left handed shooting.
Star Trek: Spectre of the Gun (1968)
Mining for Gold
The best thing about a beloved show from your childhood is watching it over and over and finding things you missed. I've lived in Taos New Mexico for over a decade but recently rewatched this episode and realized the McCoy makes a reference to a style of whiskey known as Taos Lightning which has recently been resurrected by some local distilleries... Taos Lighting can also be seen written on the blackboard menu of the dining room of the hotel in the show Deadwood.
