The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
I'm past the point of no return
WOW. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. What a movie. Joel Schumacher has directed a masterpiece. Why did I wait almost seven years to see this movie?
This movie is wonderful. It has every element required for a film. It's slightly Gothic nature was perfect for a film with this story. It was romantic, dark, fun, and all-around excellent.
Emmy Rossum was a jewel as Christine. Her soprano voice was beautiful and rivals that of Sarah Brightman's singing voice. Patrick Wilson as Raoul was good, I liked his singing voice. Minnie Driver was a hoot as the diva Carlotta. The two managers (whose names lose me right now) were hysterical. But my heart (like Christine's) belongs to Gerard Butler's Phantom:
Butler brought everything that was required for the role of the Phantom and then some. You could really feel the Phantom's loneliness and vulnerability. And, YES, he could sing. Better than Michael Crawford, because with Butler, you can hear the emotion in his voice. And I mean, come on, no one can watch the "Point of No Return" sequence without melting.
This film was, "in a word" (as the Phantom would say), wonderful. My only wish is that I could have seen it on the big screen when it was originally released. I'm past the point of no return with this movie.

Jane Eyre (2011)
Beautiful adaptation
I read the reviews of this film a few days before it was released, and one critic said it was the best JE adaptation she had ever seen. Well, then. I had high expectations.
WOW. It totally surpassed my expectations.
I'm a huge fan of the book, so I was a bit unsure of this film (before I saw it, of course) because it may have altered some main details. Not true. Yes, some parts were altered, but not altered so much that it was a fallacy. Not in any way were the changes a fallacy. The changes were minor.
The acting is wonderful, you can really sense the chemistry between Wasikowska's Jane and Fassbender's Rochester. It's well written, and the screen-writer has added in some quirky little moments that made everyone in my theatre laugh out loud.
In other words, I loved this movie. It was a beautiful film, and it was well worth the two hour car ride to see it. I can't wait for the DVD.

Gojira: Fainaru uôzu (2004)
Watching paint dry is more interesting
Back in June of 2009, I asked my friend who's 3 years younger than me if I could borrow a movie to watch, as I didn't have any homework that night, since he usually gives me good movies. That was my first mistake. He suggested Godzilla: Final Wars. Since he's a Godzilla fan, and I wanted to know what the big deal about it was, I said "all right". That was my second mistake.
The third, and most stupid mistake was turning on my DVD player and putting the DVD in that night. Little did I know that I would spend the next two and a half hours bored out of my mind. I must have looked at the clock, and on the box to see how long I had left, literally 20 times. I mean, nothing happened.
I know that it's called "Godzilla: Final Wars", but the main monster isn't even in it that much. Maybe half an hour at the most. Most of the movie was about the aliens that come to Earth, and at first everyone thinks "Oh, wow, they are really cool". But then it turns out that the aliens are really there to eat the humans like they're nothing but (and I quote) "cows". Seriously?
I ended up skipping parts of the movie. It was predictable, dull, and NOTHING happened. I'm sorry to all the Godzilla fans, but this is not a movie. This is a form of torture.
0/10.
Lost: The Variable (2009)
"For the first time in a long time, I don't know what's going to happen."
Daniel Faraday is one of my favourite characters. He has been portrayed by Jeremy Davies so well. I am surprised that he hasn't been nominated for an Emmy award. While we didn't really find out why he was crying when they showed the finding of flight 815, there are several more revelations. The one about his father especially. The ending of this episode is not a happy one. It is a shocker. And now we know why Eloise (Wheezy as I call her) was crying in the flashback, and why Daniel came to the island. But still . . . Daniel Faraday fan girls who want to see him happily married with children next season?! (if you have not seen the 2009 Lost panel at Comic-Con, you will not know what I am talking about) I guess if they like zombie weddings.
Meanwhile, Penelope grapples with Desmond's shooting while speaking to Eloise at the hospital. And when Eloise is waiting for a taxicab, we find out Daniel Faraday's daddy issues. Apart from the shocking ending, it was a great episode.
Lost: Dead Is Dead (2009)
"I came back to the island to be judged"
Am I the only one who thinks that Ben genuinely is a good guy? Hello? Anybody? Michael Emerson has brought his acting to the next level. If that is possible with such an amazing actor. Dead Is Dead is another great episode that shows us how Ben came to be one of the Others. It's great to see Tania Raymonde again as Alex in the final Temple scene. From the good opening to the fantastic ending. Ben is part of a bigger game plan for the island. We find out more about the rules between Ben and Widmore (and it's excellent to see Michael Emerson and Alan Dale acting together again).
Dead is Dead is another excellent Ben episode, and continues to prove that this is the best season so far.
Lost: The Incident: Part 1 (2009)
Best. Finale. Ever?
I LOOOVE this episode. I was not expecting it to be as perfect as it is. That beginning! That ending! Just- - everything was perfect. Even the sweat stains. From that awesome beginning that is like any other Lost opening (premiere-wise) to that awesome skin-tingling cliffhanger ending, I've got nothing bad to say (except for the lack of sleep it caused, but it was worth it) about the Incident. This is definitely the best episode of the season. The face I had when L O S T banged onto the screen at the end of it was shock. Pure shock. And giddy. Oh, it was good. Deliciously good. The plot twist I did not see for 2000 miles coming.
Damon and Carlton know how to write their episodes of Lost. When it's all said and done next May, I will flood the house with my tears. Then I'll stop, and watch season 6 again. Then I'll cry and flood the house again.
Awesomely good. I will spare you from my rambling, now. See you in January!
Lost: Lockdown (2006)
One of the best Locke episodes
The episode title is pretty self-explanatory and is a play-on word as well: there is a Lockdown in the hatch and Locke is pinned under the blast doors. The character of John Locke is an intriguing one. His episodes always leave me feeling impressed (that may be because Terry O'Quinn is an excellent actor, or Damon and Carlton write most of the Locke episodes) and wanting to find out more about his character. In this episode, we find out in flashbacks, that Locke was going to propose to Helen before his father "died" and because of this, after a series of events, Locke loses the girl. On the island, Locke gets trapped in the den of the hatch when the blast doors come down. He is forced to use the help of "Henry Gale" to get the blast doors to come up and to press the button. Meanwhile, Sayid, Charlie and Ana Lucia look for his balloon. And as one lockdown ends, another one begins when Sayid, Charlie and Ana Lucia return with some pivotal information that leaves us hanging. A terrific episode.

Lost (2004)
I'm addicted to Lost
The title of my review is pretty self-explanatory. It's such an addicting show. I cannot believe that some people do not like it. While I admit that I have not watched it from the beginning (I think it would have been a bit overwhelming for an eleven-year old), I caught up on DVD before season 4 started (in only 17 days!). Ever since I started, oh . . . it's hard to believe that there was ever a time that I did not watch Lost. Lost is a ten-star show that sucks you in for an hour (or two depending on if it's a finale or not) and then leaves you hanging for a week. It makes Wednesday my favourite day of the week. It will be a sad day when it's all said and done in May 2010.
