the graduate

the graduate was an odd movie. Finally a color movie. some of the things I noticed throughout the movie the music slowed down during the car scene, like when the car went through the tunnel. There were lots of long takes some of the long takes i thought were a good idea but some I feel made the movie slow down and made it kind of boring. the pool scene when he jumped in his scuba suit was kind of cool because they shut out all the sound which was a cool feature but when he was in the house he could here his father talking? this was strange.the sex scene was a little strange as well the woman started taking her close off and there were extremely quick flashes of nudity. when he started sleeping with her the lights would go out and you could still tell what was going on I liked that and thought it was a good idea for the movie. Each scene led itself into another which I liked. Think that he seemed very unknowing during the movie guess which is what it was all about. The las thing I nocticed was the running of cars didn't really sound normal to me they seemed to loud and really overbearing during the movie. The last thing I liked was the camera view through the glass table, I thought it was a really cool effect. Megan Himmel

bonnie and Clyde
9 December 2009
what an amazing movie!!! I loved it. The picture began amazing very good idea. Finally a color picture. Then had some fade in and outs which I liked. I was shocked to see a sign in front of the house that said citizen bank, is that how long they have been around? When they were shooting at the sign and the windows I think the noise was a little over bearing what to dramatic. I noticed in one scene that bonnie is leaning against Clyde and when the camera shot changes she is not. that happened about 3 times. I was also shocked to see that when they robbed one of the banks that they shot a man right in the face. I didn't expect that at all. I thought it was interesting that they were keeping people with them instead of just traveling by themselves. I know I'm kind of just talking about the movie but it was finally in color which wasn't bad color at all and it was just all around an excellent movie. the ending was so shocking I think my mouth dropped for 10 mins. don't want to give it away. Dr. Strangelove

Didn't really fine this movie that interesting. Some of the things I noticed were that in the beginning of the movie the writing of peoples names or introductions were actually written. The one thing I did like was the camera shots upward of the crazy general Jack Ripper. The shots after that scene seem to be fake it didn't look like the planes were really flying. The pictures of the people in the plane were really dark. all the air force people were men. There was only one women in the whole movie and she was shown to us in her underwear. I did like the back ground music while they were reading there top secret letters they played the drums I liked that gave it a real scary feeling. I believe the message in the movie to be anti- nuclear war. Even tough I not a war person it was an OK movie. Megan Himmel

the naked kiss

In this movie I think there was a lot off camera movement in the beginning. It seemed to move back and forth. The movie seemed to go backwards in time. and the hitting of the shoe seemed very fake. Camera shots were sometimes shot upwards which I think created dark shadows especially on peoples faces. There was some switching of scenes which made it seem like you didn't know what was happening or time had passed. The camera film seemed to skip. I was shocked that there was talk about abortion and the fact that he beats up on an older lady. There were slips in words. It seemed funny that they were dressed well in jail. Over all it wasn't a bad movie just not my favorite. Megan Himmel

I really thought this movie was done well. The ending a surprise. Loved it. In the beginning I wasn't sure how this movie was going to be any kind of thriller or horror. I thought in the beginning the lighting was a lot better than in the end. Towards the end everything was so dark.I believe that to go along with the story the lighting fit in perfectly. I also noticed the music in the background they did an amazing job with that it was just in the right places even if there wasn't something bad going to happen you thought there was going to be. I think the plot was great and it kept you guessing. I guess this is why Hitchcock was so famous. Megan

this was a great movie it started with a flash forward. the camera man narrates us through the movie until the main character takes over.great lighting and shadows, clear picture liked the way they told the story. They had a fake background while driving the cars that was really unrealistic. Loved the staircase design in the womens house but the pictures of herself were a bit much and it almost always seemed dark in the house maybe because of her attitude she seemed to be a dark sad woman. music went with everything especially when it was dramatic like when the man finally got mad at the end. There were some things that caught my ears not my eyes like the verbal usage the rainbow was the bathroom, he used the word gilluopie (sp) to refer to his car and the white elephant to describe her house. overall this was a good move I enjoyed it very much. The Postman Always Rings Twice
11 November 2009
This movie was nothing I expected. Where was the postman? HAHA I thought it was kind of bad lighting not that impressed. To me it always seemed so dark. I know the movie was in black and white but it seemed that the wife clothes wear always bright white and nothing else her hair do never moved. I thought the screen play was good. I was not expecting the story to go where it went I don't want to give away the movie, when the accident happened I thought for sure the whole movie was over, but i was wrong and the ending was even more shocking. the setting I think was perfect it seemed to be in a nice quite place where things can be gotten away with. not to many people coming around besides during the day for gas or food. meg

This Hitchcock film always kept you guessing. great movie. I think that the lighting in this movie was the most I have ever seen of bright light.Except for the scenes well you thought Grant was up to something which would be appropriate in the most suspicious scenes. which seemed to be every time you turned around Grant was up to something or at least thats the way it seemed. I read the reading we got in class and wondered what it would be like to see the ending in a different way. I didn't think this ending was bad but the music was great not only for the suspense but also when the theme calms down. over all this was a very well put together movie.

This black and white film was a really great movie I feel like the picture of the movies in the 1940's are getting better. I that it was done beautifully. I do have to say that the daughter's character was absolutlely ridiculous and the mother was an enabler. That child I believe in those days would never act like that but hen again when money is involved I guess anything is possible. The lighting was great and the costumes were amazing I haven't since so many different kinds of clothes in any other movie. I liked the fact that when the husband left and thought his wife wouldn't make alone she did and she did it really well. I feel it was a battle of the sexes in some ways. Meg

The grapes of wrath
21 October 2009
OK so this was kind of a long movie. It was sad. Some of the things I noticed in this movie were, how they kind of flashed backwards which is something I haven't seen in one of our movies. I liked the shot with the 3 shadows of the men standing there after they were told to get off there land. I thought that was a nice and different camera move. Some other things I saw during this movie is when they lit the candle in the house to see if anyone was there there was still a back light. where was that coming from? another thing was the sound. When the wind storm was rolling in it was extremely loud and if you looked around not everything was moving from these terrible winds. another thing was I liked the fact that they used a montage effect of all the signs when they were traveling from Oklahoma to California. The last thing i notice is when the family reached the Colorado river and they all got out to look at the beautiful sight, there voiced sounded as if there were on a set and not in an open area. over all I did like the movie but it was sad Megan

So this movie took me a while to get into and kind of figure out. Some of the things I noticed in this movie was that the more important characters were not a shinny I say that meaning feel they took better care of the main actors they looked better. Everyone else had shiny face like they forgot to put make-up on them. the lighting seemed to be coming from every where which I liked it gave it a really cool comfortable feel and the shadows made feel like it had more depth to it. Over all I like this movie not really my favorite and I don;t want to ruin the ending, but not what I expected. Good love story over all. Megan

I'm a fugitive

I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was put together extremely well. It was long and a little on the slow side but it kept me thinking. I can't imagine the days in jail back then. They did such a good job with that.I was shocked that there was so many places in this movie. They had the jail, they had the men outside working, they had the whole scene when the man escapes, then his new life outside of jail, it had many more different places which I liked the variety. I think the actors did a good job. It was sad to see what they had to go through but that was all part of it. the beating the chains the work the men had to to was all done very well. Meg

This movie wasn't bad. not really a western person. So I find that they are pretty much all the same. The women always wear pretty dresses when there is sand all over the place but they never seem to get dirty. There is always a bar and at least one of the characters is a drunk. The stunts jumping from horse to horse I did find pretty crazy I didn't think in those days things like that were done. But they were great for the movie. They also smoked a lot. I think every man in that movie smoked, but never around a woman what happen to those days. Another thing I was shocked about was that one woman was pregnant and know one knew the took me by surprise. The other thing all the Indians they killed there were 20 more in there place it's like you kill one and another one came back. One other thing I think the place that they shoot the movie was really nice very good background. Listening to the history before the movie made it that much more interesting. Meg

bringing up baby
13 October 2009
I ready like bringing up baby. I thought the scenes were well put together and they were fast and witty I like the screwball comedy. The one thing that annoyed me was the woman she drive me nuts which made it funny she was great for the part. Fast funny and annoying all in one. As for the man I can't believe he didn't just blow right up a her.She got him in so much trouble. I think the scenes with the real tiger were amazing you could tell that the man wasn't really that comfortable and the woman was fine with it. I think the lighting was good and the movie flowed pretty quickly.I believe if you watch it again you will find all sorts of different things that you missed the first time. The humor was really good this was another movie that i stayed late just to see the ending . Meg

For a silent film, Which I have never since. this was amazing I actually stayed late to watch the ending which did surprise me I won't give away the ending. It was strange to watch movie with no words or talking but it still told a story. I thought it was even better in black in white yet a little on the darker side I think that because most of it took place in the night time but over all I thought it was put together very well the scenes would kind of dim-into the next which I liked. Very good movie especially for my first silent film. I like how it had you kind of sitting on the edge of your seat wondering what the man was going to do.In the end it was nothing I expect but what you hope for. Meg

His Girl Friday

Loved this movie most older movies i wasn't really interested in, but this one was really good. I noticed that everyone was a smoker. They smoked all the time and everywhere they could. Outfits never changed. everyone was always wearing the same outfit and carrying a hat or wearing one even the women, they also carried around umbrellas. I feel that this was a very fast paced movie things happened really quick. I guess thats where there get screwball comedy from. It was really funny though. especially when Mr. Butler does everything possible to get his wife back. He comes up with fake money and lies about everything to get his ex wife and soon to be new husband to not make it to Albany to marry. I was surprised that Albany was even in or discussed in the movie. It really was a good movie. Megan H

The General (1926)
The General
30 September 2009
The General was really different. Silent movies can be had to follow. This one wasn't bad. I thought it was amazing how they did all the train work. was it a certain amount of tracks or did they actually use real train tracks and have cameras follow them around? I wasn't really sure. The part where they are on the bridge and set fire to or blow it up was amazing to. This is something else I would like to know how they did? In the beginning I really did understand who was who or what they were doing but I eventually got it. It was amazing hoe they just pulled out the spikes that were keeping the train together and how many times this was done throughout the movie. Lighting changed when man went to save to woman and he snuck into her window at night. It was blue out and the lightening effect were really cool. overall not a bad movie for a silent one it was jumping around a lot but it wasn't bad. Megan H
