Terms of Endearment (1983)
Poor adaptation of a great book
I just finished reading the book and was excited to watch the movie adaptation of "Terms of Endearment." I couldn't get through the whole thing.
The film screenplay butchered the depth and complexity of the characters from the book, especially the female characters. They were the heart of the story, and the movie failed to do them justice. Everything felt rushed. There was no character development and no story telling conveying the strong dynamics between Aurora and her male suitors.
A mini series could work better here. Time to properly develop the characters and their relationships. It would allow the story to breathe and do justice to the book's intricate storytelling.
Jack Nicholson's character doesn't exist in the book. He was a pointless addition. Vernon was a more interesting male character who had a significant role in the novel. It's frustrating when movies deviate from the source material for no good reason.
Aurora Greenway was a force to be reckoned with in the book. So sure of herself, never needing the approval of the men in her life. I loved how she enjoyed cooking, and entertaining. She wasn't stuck up; she had a vibrant personality. Sadly, the film didn't fully capture her essence, making her come across as more restricted.
"Terms of Endearment" was a letdown as an adaptation. It couldn't capture the depth and complexity of the characters, especially the strong female ones. I wanted to see more from Aurora and experience the full range of her independence. Fans of the book will likely feel the same way, longing for a more faithful and vibrant portrayal of the source material.
Away (2020)
Character driven
It's not an action or sci-fi IMO. It's a drama series with these particular set of circumstances.
Worth the watch.
Grey's Anatomy: Silent All These Years (2019)
Incredibly powerful episode
Grey's still has the ability to surprise and move me in season 15. Wow.
This was a powerful episode.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
It was fun and exciting from the start
Totally enjoyed this film for what it is, an action packed movie with great stunts and special effects.
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
One of the best romcom movies that I've watched in a long time.
This film was a lot of fun. It had fantastic actors, great production, a good balance between comedy, romance and cheese. I loved the soundtrack as well. It's 7.5 for sure.
Our Souls at Night (2017)
Long awaited reunion
It is so good to see Jane Fonda and Robert Redford on screen again. Jane Fonda looks incredible. Both actors play the roles so well. You can feel the awkwardness the first time Louis comes over to Addie's. The hotel scene felt way too short and prematurely cut. This film deals with complex family and parental dynamics in a beautiful and gentle way.
