Ender's Game (2013)
Simply Phenomenal
First off the low IMDb rating and low Metascore are most likely because of the politics and "controversy" behind the scenes. This should be close to an 8+ overall rating and the 5.8 Metascore is a joke (that's that liberal media the Republicans rant on about). Asa Butterfield... brilliant. Harrison Ford... best role in awhile. Viola Davis... compelling.
There were only two major holes in this movie (no spoilers really). The casting of Moises Arias was horrid. A four foot weasel trying to act like a tough guy was appalling, leaving me literally shaking my head and doing everything possible not to burst out laughing. I get that this character was meant to be hated but the performance was all wrong. Clearly one of his uncles must be the producer of the film. The second was a 15 second possible early reveal that could have given away the ending. Take this one scene out and it completely changes things.
Other than that, within the framework of a film and only being able to explain so much in an allotted amount of time (leaving out most of the philosophical writing of two major characters for those that read the book) they did a great job with this. Given that most people said this was the unmake-able film, it delivered on all fronts and was well worth the IMAX ticket price.
Last Man Standing (2011)
IMDb Ratings couldn't be more wrong
First off, I'm sick of the comparisons to Home Improvement. #1: It's an iconic television program that stands completely on its own. #2: People get older and move on to different things, its like someone in their 40's dwelling on how great their 20's were for the rest of their lives. Tim Allen really revives his career with this show. I wasn't a big fan of his movies, but this gave me a new outlook on the man. His transition from a father of three boys to a father of three girls is hilarious. His wife in the show, Nancy Travis, plays great part that I feel has been greatly overlooked. Alexandra Krosney is a fresh face that shows a lot of promise with her role as a young mother in the show. Kaitlyn Dever plays the baby of the family and pulls the role off perfectly. And I saved the best for last: Molly Ephraim instantly became one of the sexiest woman on TV. She could look sexy in a snowsuit. Your witnessing the birth of a huge star in the making when you watch this show. Give up your notion as Tim Allen, father of 3 boys on Home Improvement and you suddenly become hooked on this fantastic new comedy.
Splice (2009)
Worst Casting EVER!
I went to see this movie last night and was excited at first. I loved the concept, loved the director's work, loved the filming, absolutely loved the special effects, but whoever did the casting of this movie should be banned from Hollywood forever. Adrian douchebag was so un-believable (not unbelievable) that this film may ruin his reputation for years, and it should. Sarah Polley was the most pathetic actress in a horror movie I have ever seen with two scenes in particular that were so horrible I almost left the theater twice. Her shaking in the beginning was so phony it was beyond pathetic to watch and then her overacting throughout the whole movie had me questioning the casting director's sanity. This movie could have been a great mystery/horror movie but the two of them were atrocious in this film. Please warn me again if Brody or Polley are ever in another production as I am setting up a personal boycott to save my eyes from the horror of their "acting".
