Daybreak (2019)
Shame it was cancelled
This isn't the most cutting edge series (well a one season series) but it was inventive and more entertaining and original than at least half (actually no basis whatsoever for choosing to choose a half but fuggit) of the streaming options, options to spend wasting hours of the only life you have away by zombifying yourself in front of the streaming device of your choice, to choose from. The show is written around Gen-Z, but I am a first year millennial and found it more than entertaining, no doubt that many in my generation, or even older, also enjoyed it.
The show starts off with a bangitty-bang-bang and the story develops very quickly and never drags and it continues to one up itself episode after episode with a season ending conclusion that was very fitting.
Josh was obviously the main character but the season had entertaining characters with enough of a backstory to make you invested in them and the writers gave more than a handful of those equal importance and a similar amount of focus and attention throughout the season, which I personally enjoyed. There were arguably a minimum of three other characters that could have been the centerpiece and the show would have been just as good. Plus the girl that played Sam, and the character along with the actress, is an absolute button.
I am sure the time has passed for someone to have picked it up where it left off to continue the series, but with over 22k ratings and quite a few reviews, there is definitely a fan base. It wouldn't be difficult for a writer/writers who see it's potential to pick it up after a year had passed in California, throw in a time filling episode/half-episode. Something along that ideological path. Netflix throws it front and center as one of their original series, even after 4 years plus in existence. It definitely holds up like a show that could have been made in 2022 or 2023 and like I said, it's a shame it was cancelled.
P. S. The show has a fantastic soundtrack that perfects the fervid emotion the writers are wanting their audience to encapsulate.
I Used to Be Famous (2022)
It's comfort. Like a really, really good hug while you're wearing a cozy sweater while eating soup in front of your fireplace on a really cold day
First, wtf is Eddy wearing in his profile pic? I need a list of his pronouns ASAmuddafreakingP. Also, I'll combust if I don't mention that Ed's last name is a not so fantastic example of the "I" before "E" except after "C" rule. Thanks my wittle Eddy spaghetti meow meow kitty cat for being born with your last name. The film itself? It doesn't have a ton of depth but what it lacks in depth, it makes up for with compassion and humanity. I'll give you two facts about the writer. The writer of this movie has never been punched and also has a blatant, over-idealistic outlook on lifes....but if we all did, it would make the world a far better place. Oh, also another fact, the only people that don't like this movie are sociopathic serial killers, so I'd recommend it for anyone on a first date. It's not a background check or anything but it'd be a good indicator and will help you "test the waters" as they say.
The Boys: Herogasm (2022)
Best episode of the series
I have been waiting three seasons for this episode to happen. This was hands down the best episode to date. Butcher has finally become the unstoppable force that the comics portray him to be and Hughie is no longer a pusscake. Absolutely magnificent.
Atypical (2017)
Goodbye Gardners and Co.
This is a great show, it faces real life problems with people using various techniques to get through those issues and focus on the importance of family, forgiveness, overcoming obstacles, patience, communication, sacrifice and so much more. The believability of the acting, fantastic directing, exceptional camera work and soundtrack that fits like a glove, has the ability to draw some emotions out of the viewer. It certainly drew a plethora of emotions from this particular viewer. This series could've easily gone on for a couple/few more years and kept the audience engaged. It stayed fresh throughout the four seasons, wasn't repetitive, kept its originality, had likable characters and I, personally, was never bored. You definitely build a connection with the characters and feel like you get to know them, also having to do with the great acting, but also, the writing allows the characters to be built up enough so that you do have the feeling of connection. One has to appreciate the full cast and crew and the effort everyone put into the show, I am sure it was very emotional for all involved once the show was cancelled, which, was in my opinion, too soon. Thanks for giving it a few years, Netflix.
Happy! (2017)
Nick Sax is the ultimate anti hero
This show would be solid even without happy in it. That little blue cupcake pooing fella definitely adds to it though. I generally don't like Patton Oswalt, he has one of those faces you just want to punch, but he does a great job as Happy. I guess it's easier to appreciate him when you don't have to look at him.
Meloni kills it and the crudity on this show is outrageous. Wishing someone would pick this back up.
My only criticism is Ritchie Coaster, he is trying too hard and doesn't have the chops to play the villainous role in this show. He tries too hard to be James Gandolfini with a hint of Christopher Walken. The noise he makes with his mouth before he talks a great deal of the time needs to go, if anything, his character is an annoying
pest, not a mafia boss and 600 year old other worldly being.
Everything else is solid.
Lili is a great counterpart to Meloni's nut job character, Fischel kills it in his roll, Uber disturbing and the little girl who plays Hailey fills the role well and I don't think anybody would play Sunny Shine quite as perfectly as Fitzgerald, he fully thrust himself into and embraces his character.
For the type of show it is, I have to give it a high 9/10, but closer to 10/10. This show isn't for the faint of heart and is extremely crude and pushes the envelope in more than one way.
Kick back, grab some popcorn {maybe some ganja if it's legal where you're homestead is ;)}, get ready for a demented and slightly certifiable ride and binge the h-e-double hockey sticks out of this little perfectly tasteless gem on Netflix.
Skins (2007)
Nike
Just do it. This is one of the more watchable and realistic programs around. Give it a shot and you won't be disappointed. I spent many hours at red lobster during endless shrimp burning through these knicker knockers. Shabboom my rody dode. This is why we watch things and are entertained. It makes me miss being a boy. 41 this month. Yikes.
The Valet (2022)
Happy dude
Much more than expected.
Very believable.
The acting was fleek.
S. W. Is hot as balls. My palms are sweaty.
Rom com at its finest.
Did I mention S. W. Is fire and smoke?
High fives all around. I just gave one to myself. It was worth it. I somehow managed to touch five fingers against five fingers. Immaculate.
