The Laundry Guy (2021)
Bottom of the Barrel TV
I saw this show on the guide on my TV and to be honest, it sounds like a joke. I didn't think it could really be what it sounds like. I turned it on, and it was literally a man showing a woman how to wash an old silk garment.
Is this actually where we are as a society that this is considered interesting? Laundry is one of the most uninteresting activities. That's why we built machines to do it for us. Why would I want to watch a show about someone washing other peoples' clothes? I love HGTV, but this show is a miss, for sure.
Superstore: Hair Care Products (2021)
Unwatchable
When this show started, we didn't know the political viewpoints of its characters. Now Jonah has become a leftwing radical who spouts off all the leftwing talking points he can. This episode is that idea for the whole thing. No thanks. I don't need radical left messages shoved down my throat when I watch sitcoms. I hope this isn't foreshadowing for the rest of the series. If it is, then I'm done with this show.
A Christmas Carol (2019)
Good story with poor ending
I love the story of A Christmas Carol. My wife and I watch the George C Scott version every year at Christmas. I'm also a fan of scary ghost stories, so when I saw the trailer for this darker version of A Christmas Carol, I was very excited to watch it.
This movie was very interesting and kept my attention in spite of the fact that it was almost 3 hours long. However, I feel this movie was a big missed opportunity. They got a network to allow them to make a version of this story that was this long and they didn't take the time to dive into many characters important to the story such as the Cratchit family or Scrooge's nephew and his family.
Something that lacks in the original story is also the fact that you don't get to know the Cratchits very well, but most adaptations of this story are only half as long. I didn't feel anything for Tiny Tim or Bob Cratchit as neither of them are as kind or caring as they are in the original story.
Scrooge's nephew is barely in this movie. He has about 2 minutes and he isn't the kind person who loves Christmas from the original story.
They go deep into the back story of what made Scrooge who he is in this adaptation, and made it MUCH darker. They also go deeply into how Scrooge made his fortune and showed the lack of care he had for people who worked in his factories.
This Scrooge is more than just a mizer who doesn't like people, he actively doesn't care that they die because of the work conditions he puts them in.
There is also a very dark story with Scrooge and Bob Cratchit's wife that is a little off-putting.
This covers the first two-thirds of the movie and then we get very little time for the ghosts of Christmas present and future. These ghostly encounters feel very rushed.
Honestly, I can't remember much about them because they happened so fast.
In the end, Scrooge is scarcely changed from how he started, though he says he wants to be better and regrets some of his past actions. It's definitely not the "feel-good" ending you get from most versions of this story. I was left desiring more from the last 1/3 of the movie. Perhaps if the movie had been weighted differently the ending could have made a better impact. I doubt I will watch this movie again as I have with past versions.
Tell Me Your Name (2018)
Almost didn't make sense
I usually don't write reviews, but felt the need to warn people about this one.
This movie seems to have been seriously cut in editing. The storyline makes little sense and it seems like every scene is rushing to the possession part of the movie, which stole several lines from "The Exorcism".
There are obvious parts where things are missing. For example, the girl's first day of school has a traumatic event in it that is cut from the film and the only thing said about it is that it happened.
The supporting characters are barely in the movie even though it seems like they're meant to be important.
There is a slight twist at the end that's extremely unsatisfying.
If the effects had been better and this movie had been fleshed out by a significant amount, it might have been passable, but instead it was very lacking in substance. Don't waste your time with it.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Go Fish (1998)
Played like a mediocre episode of The X-Files
When this episode started, it seemed like a normal episode of Buffy. However, once the first person was apparently killed by a monster and the monster can be seen slinking into the sewers on the distance, I legitimately expected The X-Files theme music to start playing and then got surprised that the Buffy theme song started playing. This episode really reads just like an episode of the X-Files from start to finish. If you had dropped Mulder and Scully into this episode, it wouldn't have seemed out of place at all.
