War of the Worlds (2005)
May be the worse Spielberg movie made
Spielberg is Spielberg. He's one of the greatest Directors in film history, but I think he's reached the threshold of his career and it shows starting with War of the Worlds.
Don't get me wrong. You have all your Spielberg elements here. Music, action, special effects, cinematography; however, story and dialogue go right out that door.
It seems as if he got lazy and told all his crew people to put together a good movie and he'll come back later to finish it up. Tom Cruise and the supporting cast were okay. Cruise was doing his best acting, but still just couldn't convince me of his character. His estranged daughter and son were okay as well. They had their moments. I felt the daughter was very annoying at times, but she does a great job of portraying some fear.
The end though. Wow. That right there is what brought me to this conclusion that Spielberg was lazy and he had his crew pretty much make the movie for him. See for yourself.
It's worth a watch for the action and effects, but that's about it.
The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
Rated PG 13 "Horror" disguised as rated R
I don't understand why this movie got an R rating. There's no curse words. No actual blood or gore. Just kids evidently getting killed by La Llorona but you don't even see that happening.
This movie is full of these jump scares that aren't even scary. The story is just bland. Good concept, but the execution of it is weak.
It's not even a fun horror like "Drag me to Hell".
I understand this was Produced by James Wan, but not directed or written by him so take that with a grain of salt.
If I were James Wan, i'd be ashamed that I funded for this movie to hit the theaters.
The Matrix Revolutions (2003)
Undermine all the dislike for this movie
The Matrix Trilogy is something all must see in their bucket list. In Layman's, this movie is about choice and fate. Everyone has choices in their lives. People can choose to be what they want to be, choose who they want to love, but some fall victim to the "system".
This trilogy takes you on a journey from beginning to end and The Matrix Revolutions is a great way to cap it off, at least until the true sequel comes out in Matrix 4.
Think of parts 1, 2 and 3 to be Reason, Destruction of Reason, and Meaning in that order and you'll get a better idea of what awaits you on this journey.
The Matrix Revolutions is packed with visual effects, superb acting and writing, off the wall choreography and an ending that will keep you questioning the philosophy of this movie.
This movie is criminally underrated.
The Office: Vandalism (2013)
Worst Episode Ever!
This is hands down the worst, poorly scripted episode out of the series. I was compelled after watching this show maybe 10x over the course of it's life to write a bad review about it. The writing is so bad, the actors are forced to be really bad actors in this one. It's a cringe fest. Too many forced "jokes". All the other episodes are not bad compared to this one.
Terrifier (2016)
SOLID 8/10
Hear me out. I'm rating this high on a "Horror Scale" and going in without any expectations.
I keep seeing this on my Netflix queue. The title "Terrifier" is so generic, it's laughable and I immediately judged the book by it's cover seeing a crazy clown guy felt comical and borderline try hard to me. But I digress...
Movie was better than I expected! I have a thing for Halloween where I watch nothing but horrors. I decided to give it a try.
Think 80's horror flick. There's no CGI. It's all heavy duty special effects. The people that do them in this movie should be awarded. This is one of the most gruesome horror movies i've seen to date. The deaths are absolutely brutal.
The antagonist of the movie, The Clown aka Terrifier, lives up to it's name. The actor who plays him plays him very well. It's almost method acting as if he studied a mad man and clown to incorporate it all together resulting in this Terrifier character. Some of the things he does in this movie is downright hilarious in a creepy kind of way.
Do yourself a favor. Watch this movie. You will not regret it. Like an 80's horror flick, it's a great time. I'm hoping I see more of this Terrifier! Really good for a B movie horror flick!
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
The long awaited, El Camino
Well, my expectations were really high considering i'm a big Breaking Bad fan. I wasn't disappointed, but left a little underwhelmed and unsatisfied wanting more kind of like my wife. I digress...
This is more like a movie for the fans of Breaking Bad. You go in never seeing an episode of Breaking Bad, you're going to be seriously lost and lose attention quickly.
This could've been the last episode of Breaking Bad, just to wrap it all up to be honest. But I guess AMC didn't want to pay to be part of that.
In any case, if you're a Breaking Bad fan, you're going to like it. Love it? That's up to you.
In the Tall Grass (2019)
EH!
In The Tall Grass is kinda "Sci-Fi" and "Thriller" with a little "Supernatural" - "Cult" theme to it. Needless to say, I was left unimpressed and underwhelmed, but that's goes to say I feel this way with most Stephen King based movies besides The Shining.
I guess when it comes to the Horror genre, beggars can't be choosers. Filmmakers want to ride the Stephen King novels, but there's better out there. Much better. His stories starts out with a bang, but then gradually becomes too fantastical and towards the end, drops the ball for the conclusion. This has become the theme of Stephen King novels since The Shining.
The Shining was well made because it was directed by one of the greatest directors of our time, Stanley Kubrick. But I don't think even he could make this story great.
There are some moments here and there, but like I said, you will come away underwhelmed by it all.
The Vault (2017)
Solid "Horror" movie.
I'm not sure what to categorize this. It's one of those movies that had almost everything. Drama, suspense, thriller, horror. But Horror is the main theme. I've seen this in my Netflix rotation for so long. I've always found the cover of this amusing considering James Franco is displayed looking serious. DO NOT LET THE COVER OR RATINGS FOOL YOU. This is a solid horror movie. I'm not even going to go into the details of it, but it's about a bank robbery. It's a great movie to watch first time without any expectations and excellent movie to watch for Halloween time.
