The Mighty Boosh Live: Future Sailors Tour (2009)
A massive disappointment.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Mighty Boosh's TV series and first live tour. It was crazy, original and funny. Unfortunately, I'm unable to say any of those things about this outing.
While Howard and Vince's first live experience was an actual play, punctuated with the usual Boosh banter, this show was more of a montage of tired and unnecessary characters getting a 15 minute window. We see the return of Tony Harrison, the Crack Fox and of course, but only briefly, Naboo and Bollo. The latter two of these characters are great - I dare say they were two of the best from the TV series.
The 15 minute windows the characters get are used as a re-run of old jokes and messy script writing. I understand that it's Noel Fielding and Julian Barett's style of writing messy scripts and acting around them, but there's too much distraction and what seems like filling in for time here.
I would have given this 1 star, if not for the regular Boosh musical numbers. While most tracks are a reprise from the TV series, they punctuate the otherwise boring and messy script. Also, consider one star of this review to be for Howard Moon's 'jazz' photo shoot: the only bit that actually made be laugh out loud.
It suffices to say that this was the only thing I've watched recently where I was so bored I contemplated skipping sections out. I definitely will not be re-watching and I urge you not to waste your time on it, even if you are a Boosh fan.
