Dead Man Running (2009)
Poor man's Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels
I recently viewed Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels, and thought it was a cinematic masterpiece. I watched Dead Man Running yesterday, when I saw that the two had a similar plot line. I wasn't expecting Dead Man Running to be as good of a movie as Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels, but I also wasn't expecting it to be almost as bad of a movie as Dave Eddy's Pocket Ninjas. The dialogue is rather lame, the twist is cliché and expected, and everything feels hand-me- down and second hand. Brenda Blethyn had a beautiful performance as Tammer Hassan's mother, which although was superb, didn't quite make up for 50 Cent's less than acceptable acting. Dead Man Running and Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels have the same situation with me as Corner Gas and Dan For Mayor. The Corner Gas/Dan For Mayor conundrum means that I enjoyed Corner Gas, but don't enjoy Dan For Mayor, although I want to. Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels is hands-down one of my all-time favourite movies, and Dead Man Running is hands-down one of my all-time least favourite movies. I really want to like Dead Man Running, but the dialogue, second-hand feeling, and clichés didn't do it for me. I give Dead Man Running a three of of ten.
Destination Truth (2007)
Great Show!
Every week when I'm flipping through the channels I see the same old cryptozoologic show, where the hosts and hostesses don't seem to care about what they are researching, and hardly even try for evidence. This is not the case with Destination Truth. Destination Truth is a great show, following cryptozoologists across the world as they look for evidence of many undetermined species, in other words, cryptids. Every week I bear witness to some bone chilling evidence, (although mostly there isn't quite enough to prove the existence of the cryptid) and the hardy, trying work of the hosts and hostesses. Destination Truth is a terrific show, and I would recommend it to any fans of the genre. I feel like I really do know Josh Gates, and that I'm tagging along with him during his globe trekking adventures to search for cryptids worldwide.
Flight of the Phoenix (2004)
Am I the only one who thinks this movie is just AWESOME?
I thoroughly enjoyed this remake of Flight of the Phoenix. Giovanni Ribisi and Dennis Quiad offered Grade A performances along with great appearance differences (only going for Giovanni Ribisi). Everybody says that this is an awful, ho-hum remake, but this is a great film. A definite recommendation! Of course it's not as good as the original though, but I think this movie throws a great quarry out there for the original. Although some factual errors are evident, and the shells ending up right beside that dead dude's body were "target practice", these are only minor problems in my books. Go purchase this movie right now, it is a sure favourite for me, as a Giovanni Ribisi fan.
Snatch (2000)
Great Movie With Great Performances and Great Comedic Sequences!
One word to describe this movie = there isn't one! The only words that could possibly even give this movie slight justice would have to be-absolutely awesome and completely amazing motion picture that is a guaranteed favorite for ALL viewers.
Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham give Grade A performances, needless to mention the astounding characteristic development that Dennis Farina featured over "Cousin" Avi. When I put this movie on during a boring Sunday afternoon, my knees immediately buckled. I just couldn't watch Snatch. without sitting. It was just that freakin' awesome. A sure recommendation!
