Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
Not even a cat mouse game ...
Now something like this doesn't work for me,if I consider previous three installments. This movie cannot even be considered as good,if I am an enough good movie goer & specially when I am a die hard fan of this series.
Direction:No offense but Rob Marshall fails to deliver this time after you have seen his work in Chicago or Memories of Geisha.I don't know but I missed Gore when I was watching this movie.for him it is 5/10.Its like zero to his work.
Writing and Screenplay:Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio didn't impress as they did in the previous movies.Story fails to keep you interested,on the edge of the seat is a far cry.
Actors:Depp tries hard to keep up but the story does not have much scope for him.But not to forget he is the only thing for whom I would ask you to see this movie.Penelope,Geoffrey,McShane were OK.
Music:Hans Zimmer did his job quite well but still i feel something was missing.
What Impresses:The Mermaid sequence and the relationship thing between mermaid(Syrena) and Philip was good.
What we miss :The enthusiasm was not there.I missed the sunlight (brightness),whole movie is dark and then 3D diminishes brightness. The grandness, the larger than life visuals that was part of the previous three movies was not there.I think They shouldn't have created this one.
Udaan (2010)
Just Go And Grab Your Seat
Film: 'Udaan'; Director: Vikramaditya Motwane; Cast: Rajat Barmecha, Ronit Roy, Aayan Boradia, Ram Kapoor; Rating: **********
This movie is definitely a very good offering from Indian Cinema. Movie deals with a ordinary issue with very sincere treatment.
The movie should get accolades almost in every part, right from technicalities to performances. Direction (from Vikramaditya ,who finally got a production house after five years of a long wait)is very strong and clear, thus made his movie to be screened at Festival De Cannes.
The movie contains very strong performances from the lead actors.Rajat Barmecha as a young boy did a superb act,and so does Ronit Roy(as his father) and Ram Kapoor(as his uncle). Music from Amit Trivedi complements the happenings and has a fresh feel.
I will recommend this movie for serious audience who are greedy of something real and brilliant as this.
The Karate Kid (2010)
A brave and good effort handled with care
The Karate Kid starts with a 12-year-old named boy Dre (Smith) moving from Detroit, and progressively make his way to emerge as a winner (of a championship). The good thing was he doesn't want to progress for some other person(his friend). He wants to conquer his own fear. For this Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) helps him to improve himself not only int the art(kung fu)but also teaches him to be a good human being.
The movie doesn't have a different story line, but its treatment makes it stand tall.Movie is little bit slow at times ,since the focus is on the learnings of the small child and not on the kung fu training.Movie has a strong positive vibe and at times is heroic.
Budding star Jaden Smith does very well as Dre. Jackie Chan has nothing to prove,he is already one of the finest known actors across the world and does a brilliant job here.
On the technical part Director Harald Zwart did a good job.He stuck with the boy and his journey and not displaying kung fu.James Horner definitely deserves accolades for the very good and energetic music he gave in the movie.Roger Pratt does a spectacular job as cinematographer.Movie should have been edited a bit tight(seems lengthy overall),but current job is not bad.
On the whole The karate kid(2010) is definitely worth a watch.
Kites (2010)
At least a good effort to raise some levels for Indian cinema
reviewing one by one:- Actor(Hrithik Roshan):Perfection personified,Acted Well, danced Awesome. Actress(Barbara) :Looking stunning, acted OK. Cinematography :Movie is shot extremely well.hats off to Ayananka Bose. Direction:Anurag manages to do well.Lives up to to his name. Music:Rajesh Roshan gave very good music for background score + songs.
Fire is what on should watch out for.Great to listen. Story:This is the only and major part which KITES lacks. Action:Good, but quite repetitive. Not Commendable.
VERDICT:Average movie with some class Technical Aspects.
