I Can Speak Swedish (2010)
enjoyable short!
This is a short film. Really, only 18 minutes, but says and does so much in that time. I can only imagine what was cut, but what they kept turns this story line and arc into something that stays with you a lot longer. The heroine is so kooky, but played excellently, so much so that you can really feel for her even if you don't relate to her personality. When she discovers herself, she is all the more lovable. The synopsis above does not give away the twist so I won't either. But a few times in this film you will definitely L O L. The ending has a punch that will make you wish there is a part two. Or maybe you just imagine what this character will do next and that is the point. Great little short.
Orps: The Movie (2009)
Fun for pre & early teens
I watched this with my pre-teen son. Even though in a foreign language (captioned), we really enjoyed the plot and the acting. The over-the-top band conductor was played well and the misfits who seek to triumph over their foes are a funny bunch. The musicality is also strong. If you're a fan of many musical styles you will be pleased at the depth. It can make you want to dance too! I didn't think it was too predictable either. There are some surprises. If you're kids are over 15 they probably won't like this, but it's in the same vein as say, Goonies or(stretching a bit)The Breakfast Club. Fun for a girl and a boy - middle school aged kids for sure!
