O Drakoulas ton Exarheion (1983)
the best new wave film ever
Zervos is clearly the most underrated Greek director. EVER. His fetish for the ridicule and his sharp commenting of Greek society (and especially the extreme left core of people from Exarheia square) are what makes him a living legend (along with his beard of course). There are some scenes in this film that are unforgettable, but I would like to point at the one where Konstantinos Tzoumas, as the crazy scientist, creates his manufactured pop band (prophetic bearing in mind the 'Pop Stars', 'Pop Idol' phenomenon) by putting walkmans in all of the bandmembers heads playing 'new wave'. The result of course is a disaster, and the whole film then takes off. Class!
The... Copanoi (1987)
A classic gang film
This is definitely one of the most surreal cinematic experiences I have ever had. The characters are so one dimensional it's actually contributing to the cheap humour of the film. I would like to pay my respect to the excellent comic actor Markos Lezes, who in this film, outdoes himself for sheer quality of performance and humour of the English style. Excellent.
O ippotis tis lakouvas (1985)
it's the best film that features the entire Juventus football team
It is definitely one of the coolest, cult films of the video-era of Greek movie production. The robots and the general sci-fi element are so ridiculous, they're awsome, especially the car's voice. I wish David Hasslhoff will see this film at some point. He will feel that all his efforts in Knight Rider have certainly gone to waste. Plus, the story about the kidnapping of the whole Juventus football team just makes this film a surreal experience.
