Car Matchmaker with Spike Feresten (2014)
Not Just For Car Lovers!
Many people all over the country face a decision every few years or so regarding what car to get next. Sometimes this is a leisurely purchase, other times they might need to get a new (or used) car right away for varying reasons.
Spike Feresten's approach to "Car Matchmaking" is to talk with the prospective car Buyer first. He finds out ideally what they would like in a new car, what is their budget, and any other important strategic issues that might affect their buying decision. Spike also takes into consideration whether or not the car will be leased, and to my surprise when I first saw it, he also offers late model used cars and trucks as an alternative to something new and staying on budget.
My enjoyment comes from how Spike approaches each person differently. After they meet and he gets an idea of what they want, then he next takes them to some kind of venue that specifically highlights the car of choice. For example, if someone says they want a car sleekly styled like for racing, he might take them to a race track where cars are raced that resemble what they are looking for and offers them more information about the cars.
I'm pretty good about listening to each car Buyer summing up what they like about the cars they drove, and yet I still haven't gotten one right! There is always something that motivates a Buyer for a specific car that stands out for them. This is the heart of the show to me....many times it is a car they would NOT have even considered for one reason or another.
Since I love cars, I love the show because I'm learning about what is new out there and what motivates people to buy a particular car.
This is a fun show to watch and I think anyone can enjoy the people, the cars and Spike's good sense of humor.
Great show, Spike!
Miss Potter (2006)
Don't Go See It, Buy It!
The remarkably talented cast and crew that meticulously used all of the magic of movie making to its best, created one of the most lovable films of all time. Just think how children in the future will be able to get a sample of the whimsy and talent that Beatrix Potter put to use not only in her wonderful books, but in her lasting legacy of over 4,000 acres of Lake Area beauty that will be preserved forever.
The chemistry between Ewan McGregor and Rene Zellweger was just as unique and real as it was in their previous film "Down with Love" which also included both of them singing one of the score's songs together. It was evident to me from the beginning that Ms. Zellweger knew who should play the role of Norman Warne.
I've read from others that this is a "feel good" story. Yes, I think so too. But there is more than that. It somehow strikes me as a kind of documentary on Miss Potter's life. She may have been born into a wealthy family, but as an adult, she was her own woman and stayed that way. It's like a 21st Century Woman thrown into those odd Victorian times and carrying on without letting anything stop her.
Cheers to the Chris Noonan for orchestrating this remarkably big little film. And a round of applause to Richard Maltby, Jr. for writing this lovely story.
Bride & Prejudice (2004)
This is a must see!
I just saw this film on the US debut day (2-11-05) and THEN I read the previously posted user comments.
I just want to concur with those that gave it a "Thunbs Up".
This film is part Romantic Comedy and part Musical. The music adds to the film's aura of the East along with the gorgeous colors of the dozens of dancers throughout the film.
It was so refreshing to see an old storyline done so well that it seemed new and refreshing.
As for the cast, Aishwarya Rai is radiant and so easy to watch. Martin Henderson has a flawless American accent. Daniel Gillies was equally successful with his British accent. Nadira Babbar's portrayal of the marriage-minded mother was almost over the top, but pulls it off with charm.
The fact that the film is shows India, London and LA is a bit of a plus because the film includes excellent locations which fit the storyline and the local as well.
This is the first film in several years that I thought could be fun for a date movie as well as young teens and pre-teens. I think that wholesome might not be the right word, but it is wholesome!
SEE IT!
