Clifford the Big Red Dog (2021)
Fun movie spoilt by the never ending music over the entire show.
This movie presents an adorable and unique story that is perfect for family viewing. However, the loud and never-ending sweeping music has become quite overwhelming. It seems that the director and the sound engineers may have overlooked the fact that the music sometimes drowns out the dialogue. The intense music seems to be working overtime and it's beginning to make the movie feel excessively mushy as if every scene is a finale! While the emotional tone of the music is important, finding a better balance and allowing moments of silence is equally crucial. A huge let down to an otherwise enjoyable exhilarating show.
Narcos: México: Los Juniors (2021)
Lacklustre, Lightweight and Lost
What happened to the gravitas of Narcos Series? I'm into the third episode of this 3rd season and the writing so far is just lightweight and fragmented. After the explosive infiltration of DEA Kiki of season one and power manipulation of Felix in season two, all we got so far is a temperamental DEA I don't care for. A corrupted nobody cop. Some rich narco kids abusing their dads ill-gotten gains with one changing clothes and dancing montage. A junior female journalist narrating the story which weakens the signature mode of the Narcos series. C'mon guys. We only have ten episodes. Stop wasting time focusing on insignificant characters and bring on the terror reign of the drug lords already. It's Narcos. Not telenovelas.
Kingdom: Ashin-jeon (2021)
Intriguing prequel. Confusing male casting.
This movie, a spinoff from the TV series Kingdom is a prequel. It tells the story of the mysterious girl Ashin who appeared at the end of the last episode of Season 2. This movie explains how the zombies came about to besieged the Kingdom from the TV series.
The premise of the plot evolved around the lords and warriors from 3 tribal factions who got entangled with mass-murder, deceit and revenge. Some plot twists which led to the misuse of a plant that can revive the dead.
This movie has commendable cinematography and good production value. The story is also well paced. My issue with the movie is the casting of most male lead actors. They all have sharp chiselled features in their same age and looked quite similar to each other. This gets extremely confusing to follow and identify which warrior is which as the story unfolds. Granted some has moustache, but it didn't help with the movie mostly taking place at night complete with quick edits during fight scenes.
The female lead is a Korean A-list star who took on the vengeful role with much charisma and carried the movie fearlessly with her largely deadpan looks. In short, she did a pretty good job despite of the limited expressions demanded of her.
A must-watch for all Kingdom TV series fans.
Black Summer (2019)
A hot mess of highly strung characters I don't care for
Human killing human to survive to the point I don't care who won because there were no characters to root for. When there are some familiar faces from season 1, they were suspicious and depressing without a plot. The short chapters with titles were cool. A few chapters linking up from different perspectives but most were painfully slow and not getting anywhere to a bigger goal. Season 1 has better character developments. Season 2 is a hot mess of depressing characters I don't care for. I gave up at episode 5 when there's this 2 black guys trying to get acquainted with a long drawn out hollow dialogue from day to night. Yawn.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
A Messy Visual Debacle!
Ridiculous plot with full of holes! Dialogues were tediously cheesy and fight scenes were long drawn with rapid cuts done in the darkest of night. Can't see what's what half of the time. Evidently an editing ploy to cover up how fake the monsters action were. Offering B-list TV actors to shoulder this visually messy debacle. Worst Version by far. What waste of time!
Grace and Frankie: The Incubator (2017)
Likebility
Brianna character is way more likeable this season. So far.
