The Devil's Hour (2022)
I recommend it despite the disappointing ending.
The Devil's Hour is a thrilling and suspenseful show that grips you from the first episode. The story follows a woman who wakes up at precisely 3:33 am every night, only to be confronted with terrifying visions and experiences.
Jessica Raine, who plays the main character, delivers a fantastic performance. Her portrayal of a woman struggling with the horrors of the night is authentic and moving. Peter Capaldi, as always, is a joy to watch.
While The Devil's Hour is very fun to watch at first, the unraveling of the main mystery leaves a lot to be desired. The show's ending is sloppy and unsatisfying, making little sense when you think about it for more than a couple of minutes. This can leave you feeling frustrated and disappointed in the last couple of episodes.
However, despite its shortcomings, The Devil's Hour is still worth watching. The show's suspense and scare factors are excellent, keeping you on the edge of your seat throughout the series. The story is also interesting, diving into the supernatural and psychological realms, making it an exciting watch.
In conclusion, The Devil's Hour is a mixed bag, with several enjoyable episodes but a disappointing last part. Jessica Raine and Peter Capaldi's performances are excellent, but the unraveling of the mystery can leave you feeling frustrated. I hope Jessica Raine goes on to better things.
Poker Face (2023)
Unrealistic but very fun.
Poker Face is a fantastic show that is a great low-key remake of the iconic detective series, Columbo. What makes this show stand out is the supporting cast of famous actors who make appearances throughout the series, bringing a level of excitement to each episode.
One of the standout performances in the show comes from Natasha Leone. Her portrayal of the character is spot-on, and she brings a level of depth and nuance to the role that makes her instantly likable and relatable.
While the show does an excellent job of paying homage to Columbo, one aspect that feels a bit off is the fact that Ellie always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when a murder occurs. Unlike Columbo, who was a cop and had a legitimate reason for being at crime scenes, Ellie's presence seems to always be a weird coincidence. This makes the show feel a bit contrived, but the strong performances and excellent writing make up for any shortcomings.
The Staircase (2022)
Despite trying to paint a full picture the show can't help but be biphobic.
I've seen the documentary a few times, and I was open to a tv show that paints Michael in a less positive light. But after watching all the episodes, especially the last one, I can't avoid the fact that every time they want to paint him as a murderer they put an emphasis on his bisexuality. So despite an amazing cast and great direction, ultimately what we got is "but he was sleeping with men so he probably did kill her", and that's not really helpful to anybody.
Ricky Gervais: SuperNature (2022)
Disappointing.
This one has a few funny moments, but when you think you're being edgy on the trans issue by essentially sounding exactly like Tucker Carlson, you might not be the anti-establishment free thinker you imagine you are. I guess Ricky's lived long enough to see himself become the villain.
The Pentaverate (2022)
Extremely skippable.
The latex makeup people showed up to work but nobody else did. We were so bored and indifferent to the characters we couldn't even finish it.
This show will make you hate Mike Myers, just do yourself a favor and skip it.
The Tourist (2022)
A pretty good attempt at an Australian Fargo.
Despite a few clunky plot points it's a very engaging story and the two main actors are wonderful, especially Danielle MacDonald. We had a great weekend binging it.
In Time (2011)
Chilling. A must watch.
This is one of the most important films nobody ever talks about.
Contact (1997)
Exceptionally terrible.
I'm watching this for the Bechdel Cast podcast and wow, it might be the dumbest movie I've ever seen. Jodie Foster does not deserve to be in it ;..(
Nobody (2021)
Just terrible.
It really tries to be like John Wick but it's utterly charmless. Bob Odenkirk is the only good thing about the movie but he can't save it.
The Little Things (2021)
Bad and unfortunate.
Not only is this a very mediocre movie, but 2021 is a very unfortunate time to put out this dark copaganda piece where suspects have no rights and it doesn't really matter if you catch the real killer.
The Mindy Project (2012)
Danny Castellano is TV's most terrifying villain.
Mindy did a great job on Never Have I Ever, but this show is a disaster with nothing but terrible takes on romance and relationships.
2 Broke Girls (2011)
Has its moments, but very mediocre.
Kat Dennings is a goddess, but she can't carry this thing.
Billions (2016)
I thought this would be better.
I love the cast of this show, especially Paul Giamatti, but the stovk trading storyline bores me stiff.
Kûtei Doragonzu (2020)
It's terrible and amazing.
The writing is horrible - the more they try so add action and excitement, the more boring it gets. And the whaling angle of course is just unforgivable. But as an animator I have to say that the style is groundbreaking and nothing short of a revelation. I can't wait to see this technique used in a better show.
Perfect Harmony (2019)
I really wanted to like it but no.
I really wanted to like this show because of Brad Whitford, but it's pretty bad. The only reason I'm even giving it a 6 few because all the characters and actors are adorable, but they can't make up for the writing ;.(
Dirk Gently: Pilot (2010)
A waste of everyone's time.
This thing was made by people who never read the Dirk Gently books, but were told the plot by someone who only vaguely remembers it, and then decided that they didn't like it much and could do better anyway.
The actors look and behave nothing like they are described by Douglas Adams, some of the best parts are cut out, and there's no trace of the general eerie - quirky feeling that is so great in the books.
I admit that I didn't manage to watch more than fifteen minutes of the thing, it was depressing to me, since I'd been waiting and hoping to see my favorite Douglas Adams books dramatized for ages. But the little i did manage to endure was an insult to Adams' memory and talent. I wish they could've resisted the temptation to ruin Dirk Gently for everyone.
