Abducted in Plain Sight (2017)
Stupid stupid stupid parents!
Even the main victim was stupid.. A 16 year old thinking that she's still an alien. I mean wtf. By the end of the movie it was difficult to sympathise with Jan as well as the parents. In fact the parents should be jailed for allowing a predator to molest their child in order to hide their own pervert nature. One of the stupidest real crime story you'll ever come across.
San Andreas (2015)
2012 looks like "The Shawshank Redemption" in front of this crap...!!!
Holy crap...!!! Are people so frigging dumb? Wtf did the director and the VFX team thought while they were filming this crap. Too much unimaginable VFX killed the fun for me and on the acting front Dwayne Johnson was the only guy who was holding the fort over here. Except him each and everyone was over the top and loud (remember John Cusack "2012"). And what about Paul Giamatti, Oh my word..!! Is he out of his fu***** mind. What was he doing there. He was so frigging loud and over acted the most part. LOL. Thats not even funny. And Alexandra Daddario, i swear to god she's a porn star in the making with those huge bouncing titties and blue eyes. All in all it is quite an unintelligent movie with a unrealistic plot and with underwhelming special effects. The producers and the director should have watched "Cloverfield" before making this piece of garbage. Till now i thought 2012 was the most crappiest disaster movie ever made. But now it has some competition. And well.. you know who's the winner now. Give it a miss guys.
It Follows (2014)
That was some serious GARBAGE..!!!!
Really??? OMG that was one of the most irritating, disgusting and probably the most overrated horror film of all time. Im a crazy movie buff. I even watch movies which are rated below 4 sometimes. Its not that i like belove par movies but its because sometimes the IMDb rating's completely misleads u. Some movies which are rated for example 3.5 or 4 may be.. are complete gems. Indie masterpieces. And vice versa. Well thats my point. The rating of IT FOLLOWS should not be more than 4 (and i am being very generous here). This movie completely sucks. STD... OHHH god seriously? Naked men and women with huge titties and completely outgrown pubic hair following you for no purpose. 30 minutes into the movie i was rooting for the ghosts or so called "IT"s. Acting was so shitty that it actually funny. God knows what's next... A movie about used TAMPONS??? Seriously..
Afflicted (2013)
Let Me In meets Chronicle with a hand held camera.. But surprisingly the result is Outstanding!!!
Wowww... What a film. Derek lee and Clif Prowse did a wonderful job in this low budget indie horror. If i am right all the money involved in this movie was donated by the actors friends and family and my word did they utilized it well. Hell yeah. All the CGI scenes were shockingly good. These days Canadian films are giving Hollywood a run for their money. And what an actor this Derek is. The movie is actually a mix of vampirism and super natural powers. OK so here it goes... Two guys set on a world tour. One of them, gets attacked by a lady in Paris and the rest is a fun ride for horror buffs like me. Great music, great performances and great cinematography. Highly recommended. 8 out of 10.
Hansie: A True Story (2008)
We love you Hansie and always will...!!!
As an Indian kid growing up in 90's i have fague memories of this dominating South African cricket team consisting of some modern greats. Jonty, Donald, Zulu, Pollock, Cullinan, Gibbs, Gary, Mc millan brothers to name a few. But the person i really admired as a cricketer in those days was this smart, cool headed captain naming Hansie Cronje. When all this match fixing saga came up i was very upset and deep down in my heart i was praying that Hansie should deny all those allegations. But my worst fear came true when Hansie confessed everything in front of the whole world in the King's commission. Well coming to the film.. Franc did a wonderful job by letting the world know what had really happened with Hansie. The film was scene to scene enactment what must have really happened in Hansie's life. And to be honest it was difficult to sit through it coz Hansie did let down his fans, his colleagues and most importantly his nation. But are we the right person to judge him? There are some people in this world whom we want to hate, but just can't. Hansie was one of them. RIP bro. We'll always love you. 7 out of 10.
The Sacrament (2013)
Ti West rocks in this chiller... Superb!
Well.. We all know what an amazing talent this guy Ti West is. 33 years of age and he has done almost everything a film maker dreams of. Actor, director, producer, screen writer and what not. But lately he has been in dumps mainly because of some sloppily made films (Cabin fever 2, The Innkeepers, The A,B,C.s of death) but with The Sacrament he's back with a bang. And now lets come to the story.. Yes it is based on Jonestown Murders, which in itself is a spine chilling incident and to portray that on celluloid with such realism is in itself an achievement. Performance wise AJ Bowen and Amy Seimetz rocked but the way Gene Jones carried himself in that devilish character of a "father" is simply astonishing. Good one for a surprise thriller. My vote 7 out of 10.
The Fourth Kind (2009)
Its fake... but goddamn its so real!!! Good one.
Fox studios did some ridiculously stupid things to sell this film and i wonder why? Why should u do something so stupid to sell a film which itself is a good effective chiller. Well anyways.. The fourth Kind is a slow burner. It will get under your skin once u get absorbed in the atmosphere. The director and the creative team tried their best to make it as real as possible but there were some serious flaws in the film. First of all Nome doesn't have trees larger than 8 feet due to the inhospitable climate there and coz the film was shot in Bulgaria and Canada we can see lots of dense trees which are so WTF types. And as far as the film goes the script was water tight. Milla was OK OK, the real Abigail was brilliant and the actor who played August (sheriff) was great. Its not as bad as people are making it seem.. Give it a try. My vote is 6.
The Dyatlov Pass Incident (2013)
Creepiest time travel film!
Well.. when i first hard about this film, i was expecting it to be another expedition gone wrong kind of cinema. But when i saw it, i was completely bold over by the production value and the efforts put together by the creative team. So basically the plot is about the nine Russian mountaineers who were all found dead in mysterious conditions some 60 years back. After so many years an American team consisting of few youngsters decides to unravel their mysterious deaths. Well, this is the basic premise of this film, but once you get into it, you will find it difficult to get out of it. It is a bone crunching, spine chilling thriller which will leave you gasping for breath. My vote is 9 out of 10.
Mama (2013)
Guillermo del Toro... is just an executive producer in this film. Nothing more than that.
There's a new gimmick in Hollywood these days. Recruit a famous writer/director of the past and gave them any crappy post in the movie and then publicized the movie using their name. Same goes with Mama. Guillermo del Toro's name has been used to promote the film heavily. But the matter of fact is that he's just an executive producer in the film. Nor he's the writer nor the director of this mindless CGI based crap. As far as the movie goes, its a disappointment overall. I had expected something lot creepier and mindful cinema but what i got was a total CGI based flick based on the premises of The Exorcist and god knows how many movies. See, frankly speaking those days are gone when a CGI created ghost in long gowns and disoriented faces used to scare the s**t out of audiences. Now as an audience people want more mindful and intellectual cinema, be it any genre. Mama's premises was very solid but it was ruined by some really loose script. And lastly, who in the blue is Jessica Chastain???? Is she some Meryll Streep or Julia Roberts? No disregard to her acting but the way the film is promoted as a Jessica Chastain movie is ridiculous. Grow up Hollywood. Audiences had already.
El orfanato (2007)
Probably, the most over rated horror film of the last decade.
Well.. i went for this movie with very high expectations. As i've heard a lot about it previously and more over the ratings on IMDb made me more intrigued. But boy, was i disappointed? Damn, yeah. See i don't have any problem with character development, but when it starts over shadowing the script then it becomes too much. Same goes with this movie. Anyways, i know i might be a minority over here but frankly i was very disappointed with The Orphanage. Expected a lot more. Its heavily over rated film. But as i said, i felt it this way. You might not. Acting is top notch, and the child artist is brilliant. Cinematography is breath taking at times. As for the script, its as confusing as the child's mother in the film. I'll go with 5 stars.
Enter Nowhere (2011)
6.4? Are you kidding me? It deserves much more than that.
Wow...!!! What a gem of a little film. Terrific performances with a water tight script goes very well with some amazing sci-fi elements. Its one hell of a thrill ride. But the low rating is something which has become a norm for such wonderfully crafted indie gems. Now a days, films with big budget and A class actors gets a 7.5 or even 8 with utter rubbish contents. But such brilliant movies goes unnoticed. This review is to all of those who are double minded about watching this film. Please do watch it. You'll thank me later. No spoilers and no story revelations here. Just watch it and enjoy the fun ride. Highly under rated film. Kudos to the team for such an amazing idea.
The Stoning of Soraya M. (2008)
Soraya Manutchehri... BE PEACE UPON YOU. The world now knows that you were innocent.
Top notch drama from Iran... Painful to watch, heart wrenching dialogs and teary ending. But as the end dialog says it all... Let the whole world know what happens in this village or probably in this country. Its so sad to see that all this indiscrimination still happens in some countries and mostly Muslim world. Its a very hard hitting film, not for faint hearted especially. It almost moved me to tears and believe me i am a very strong guy when it comes to emotions especially on celluloid. Its a very sad tale of a women wrongly accused of infidelity by her own husband and the local mullah. All this to just marry a 14 year old...!!! Hell this one will be remembered for decades to come. Hats off to u Soraya Manutchehri. Wherever you are may peace be upon you. The world now knows that you were innocent.
The Signal (2007)
Simply WOW!!! Gimme more of these. Sick & tired of the old formula....
This one is a very low budget horror flick which went highly unrecognised when it has first released but trust me its one of the best ever to come out of Hollywood in these "infected" genre movies. The basic premise is very much new as compared to the old routine Hollywood horror flicks. Its new, its refreshing and trust me its gripping till the end credits roll over your screen. the acting is top notch and the background score is beautiful. So the story is about a electromagnetic signal produced by the electronic devices, be it T.V, radio or cell phones. Whoever watches or hears it, gets infected with it and starts behaving very abnormally (All the victims behaves rationally different from each other)... Some gets violent, some gets paranoid, whereas some gets hysterical. The film is divided in three stories which some way or other connects to each other and always keeps you hooked into the plot. A very unknown cast with a very unknown director worked magic over here. Must watch for every horror fan. Highly recommended.
The Children (2008)
Better than Joshua, better than Orphan and to some extent even better than The Omen.. Simply WOW!
A very effective indie horror with a very common plot (children turning evil) but take my word The Children is the best in the lot of such kind of movies. I always thought that Joshua was a very bad movie, Orphan was quite good but highly overrated. The only other movie which can compete strongly with The Children in this genre is Home movie (another gem of an indie horror)... The plot is quite simple. Children turning on their parents, but the way its crafted over here is quite praise worthy. The exotic location of the house and the woods adds creepiness to the already chilling atmosphere. The acting is not that good as you expect but the script is quite solid to carry the whole movie on its shoulders. Wholesome entertainment is guaranteed. Do have a watch and yes, only after your children are off to bed.
13 game sayawng (2006)
Seriously flawed... More like a comedy than a thriller. A huge let down.
Well... i had heard great things about this movie, but frankly speaking i am very disappointed. The script has many loopholes and its very unstable. For example: When the guy makes three children cry and runs off from there, the two teachers get so hysteric and complains about him in the police station like he's some kind of terrorist... And the other one I didn't knew that punching a guy in the face and bashing up a beggar makes you the most wanted criminal in Thailand. WOW. If that would be the case than Thailand must be the most crime-free place in the whole world. And the last part, where the girl is sitting on the bench and the police comes near her... What does that means? I've tried to connect all the dots regarding that, but still i am clueless... It just does not lead to anything then why such a meaningless scene to end the film? Well... seriously i was expecting a lot from this movie but trust me its more like watching a Judd Apatow movie with a serial killer on the loose. Complete letdown.
Jodaeiye Nader az Simin (2011)
8.6.....? Are you kidding me? It deserves a 10.
Those who think that movies can't change lives, should watch this film. Its one of the most beautifully crafted movie ever made in cinema's history. It stands there right at the top with The Shawshank Redemption as my all time favorite film. The lead actor "Peyman Maadi"... OMFG what an actor he is. He deserves a lot more recognition and appreciation world wide. He's a gem of an actor. I am an Indian, but i am an huge fan of international cinema including Hollywood. I have seen many bollywood actors with great acting prowess like Amitabh Bacchan, Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan etc... I have seen Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, Sean Penn... who are powerhouse performers. But this guy... He can give all of them a run for their money. Iranian Cinema wont be the same after this movie. Its a one time experience which should not be missed. If you want to do a favor to yourself and your family this summer, go and watch A Separation. I promise you'll not be the same person after watching this.
Kynodontas (2009)
But where's the point? More importantly, what's the point? Utter crap. Period.
Don't know what the director had in mind when he wrote this script? Every film has its own ideas and theories... some tries to prove a point and others just try to leave us with a message and few tries to entertain us. I am afraid the director of this film fails to do any of these. Yes its weird, yes its a new concept, an amazingly new idea... But what after that? This film is more like a mokumentary on baby sitting. Hell with the fresh concept, who needs such crap Mr. Lanthimos? Its more like watching a soft porn film with a weird drama entwined with it. Had great expectations with this film. But its a total waste. And yeah 7.2 on the rating cards? Are you kidding me? Give me Mr. Bean instead.
Frontière(s) (2007)
And the French gore fest continues... This time its Frontier(s)
As a hardcore horror fan, i am always amused and surprised by the Japanese horror genre. No doubt some movies are good, in fact they are very good. But somewhere down the line i always felt that they are highly overrated and more talked about than French horror flicks. The Orphanage, Martyrs, Inside, and now Frontiers... French cinema is delivering what horror fans have always wanted. GORE, GORE and more GORE. Coming back to Frontiers... Yeah its a flawed movie, common even The Shawshank Redemption is flawed but who cares, its still the number 1 in IMDb all time list. Watching frontiers is like getting a punch in your stomach after fasting for a whole day. Its relentlessly real. But yeah it also has some serious loopholes. Well, i am a firm believer in entertainment. If a movie entertains me, no matter how flawed it is or how unreal it is.. I will still love it. And trust me Frontiers have loads of it. I'll go for 7 out of 10.
Frozen (2010)
"Frozen" will freeze you in your seats.. Gripping thriller.
First thing first... Emma Bell is a very bad actress. But thanks to some solid script and some amazing support from the other two co-stars, "Frozen" is a winner all the way. The basic premise of the film is too intriguing and never leaves you with a question mark like most other thrillers. Frozen is not just a movie about three friends stuck in a chair lift in a below freezing weather... Its about survival, hope and the desire to live. There are some flaws but it never affects the story line much. the most gruesome scene of the film ***spoliers*** where Dan jumps from the chair lift is the high point of the film. Overall the film's cinematography is breath taking and the direction is top notch. One of the best nature vs man movie ever made.. Two thumbs up.
Session 9 (2001)
"Session 9" is to horror what Mohammed Ali is to boxing.
First of all... Session 9 is not for weak hearted. Not because its a gory flick or a blood splattering feast. Its because it gets under your skin and make you cringe for breath. As a hardcore horror fan, i don't remember the last time when a horror flick had this effect on me. I think it was The Ring. But this movie exceeded my expectations. In an era where horror movies are mere blood splattering gory flicks, here come's a movie which will twist your mind, gets under your skin and stay in your head for years to come. The setting of the film, cinematography, the ambiance, acting all are pitch perfect. The background music itself is creepy enough to give you goose bumps. Movies like Session 9 are the reason why i love films so much.
Pontypool (2008)
Interesting but bit overrated...
How many times have you heard about a virus which infects people through a language or speech and that also English? This Canadian flick takes zombie genre to an altogether new altitude. No second thoughts about it. But the movie has its share of flaws and it has loads.... After watching the first 30 Min's you'd wonder if you are watching the right movie or no. The opening 30 Min's of the film sucks big time. With all the talkative radio jockey crap taking the story nowhere. But kudos to the screenplay writer for writing such a water tight script and ably supported by some brilliant acting by Stephen McHattie & Lisa Houle. All in all a decent indie horror for a one time watch. Refreshing and original but a bit overrated.
Martyrs (2008)
'Martyrs' will be remembered for decades to come....
Well there are very few movies where you want the end credits to roll as soon as they can... Not because the movie's bad but because of the eerie feeling you get when it starts getting under your skin. Martyrs is one of them. It will twist your mind, numb your senses and flay your skin as it does to the main protagonist of the movie. Some scenes are so mind screwing that you wont be able to take it. The climax was one of the best i've ever seen. Its a mind trip that should not be missed. Kudos to the director for making such a complicated film with equally complicated premises. 'Martyrs' will be remembered for decades to come. You have to 'Witness' this or you'll always 'Keep doubting'.
