Bombay Talkies (2013)
What was the point of this film??
Boring film and doesn't represent Indian cinema! First of all Karan Johars film goes against out Indian culture and ethics. Being bold is one thing but this film is against Indian morals. Homosexuality is taboo in India and such a concept is not accepted here! So how can such a short film be included in a movie that celebrates cinema? Dibakar Banerjees film is OK, but too arty and a little odd also. Who was the character talking to, some ghost or some spirit? Also, why was he making such weird faces in front of his daughter? Zoya Akhtars film was embarrassing...Why was the boy dressing like a girl? Once again this goes against our Indian culture where a boy is to be a boy and girls have other things they are supposed to do. Very bizarre story.
Anurag Kashyaps film was OK. Liked the song and the actor also. But such an obsession seems too much...WHy would someone go to such trouble to give sweets to someone? But this film was better than the rest.
Basically in an Industry where masala movies and ENTERTAINING films do the best, how can a boring film like this represent 100 years of Indian cinema? Most Indians love the quality masala entertaining. Movies like "Dabanng"(1 and 2), "Rowdy Rathore", "Houseful", "Singham" and the Golmaal series do the BEST in the box office and they are better entertaining films. None of that was in this bombay talkies. Also the ending was OK because it had stars. But Bombay talkies is mainly filled with no famous people. No dancing also in Bombay talkies or item song.
So it's a mediocre film and boring. Only a film for mediocre people.
David (2013)
Boring, no entertainment....
made no sense only it's like a art film3 stories having nothing to do with one another but at the end they connect in a stupid way. Stylized for the sake of style but lacking in the fun and "masti". No entertainment value and quite boring at times. It's the type of film that tries to spread some message but such films are boring since we watch films for entertainment. The acting is good but not enough action and fun. It is also confusing at times. The story in Goa was the best because it was funny and Vikram acted very well. The musicians story was weird and made no sense and had no logic. The gangster story was OK but no cool love making scene. Basically I will be waiting for Himmatwala and Zilla Gaziabad. Those films seem "Paisa vasool" types and full of entertainment....
Dhobi Ghat (2010)
A great film for open minded people, not for the typical bollywood freaks...
If you are a narrow minded bollywood lover who enjoys cheesy musicals and childish MASALA flicks with mindless comedy, you will find DHOBI GHAT to be boring and confusing...But it isn't....It's a smartly made, innovative film with an interesting story and great characterization...It's just that those conditioned to childish and mindless films may find it hard to appreciate something of a higher level(Most of the mainstream Indian audience, unfortunately, fall in this category).
In the land of singing and dancing bollywood, comes this exceptional film...Aamir khan, along with anurag kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee and vishal baradwaj are the most talented and original film makers in India that stay away from the forumulaic, crap...Yes, I said crap...
The poetry, the symbolism, the depth and the heartfelt film making is what makes this film so worth it! The writing, direction, and acting is wonderful, however for some reason I actually felt as if Aamir Khan was a little out of place. The documentary style of film making brings the characters closer to life and the story much more identifiable...Those that say the film is "LIKE A DOCUMENTARY", they don't know much. It is filmed in a documentary style...One character happens to be a photographer and the other story is told through video recordings...
Overall, a great film for open minded people
Wanted (2009)
maybe for Indian audiences it is OK...
but for me, even though I watch Hindi and other Indian films, this is mediocre. I don't approve of such nonsense, with no story, mindless scenes, and forced "masala" which most Indian audiences may fall head over heels for. This fim is a representation of Indian cinema at it's worst and the fact that it was a blockbuster makes me wonder whether the audiences have been dumbed down. Films like "Singh is Kinng", Kambakkt Ishq", "Partner", "Housefull", "Blue", "Do Knot Disturb", along with other old fashioned and badly made films like "We Are Family", Kurbaan, Lamhaa, make me lose faith in the industry. Some people that have seen bollywood their whole lives may find these films to be OK. Films like Udaan, Tere Bin Laden, and LSD are films that are well made and deserve a larger audience but the world of stars, foreign locations, etc is ruining everything.
Salman Khan stars in wanted. It takes place in a nice foreign location(at least the dance sequences), there is no proper, scripted story. Unfortunately it seems as if this is what the audiences want. No story, just entertainment. No wonder there are still "boy meets girl" films coming out from all the major production companies that take place outside India. Don't people get sick of this since it has been happening since the 90's and even earlier. The next film is "Anjaana Anjaani". Recently there was also "I hate love stories"...This formulaic crap is killing the industry.
Dabangg (2010)
for bollywood fans
hmmm...I guess it's a bollywood film so it's OK. This film is definitely better than Ghajini and Wanted by a long shot, however this still represents the mediocrity of the bollywood and the bollywood audience. Does the public really enjoy such pathetic films? I often thought that it is the industries fault for not creating nice, unique cinema, but now I must wonder whether it's the audience that won't accept anything that goes beyond the ordinary masala fare. Maybe this film is OK for Indian audiences but it doesn't have any international appeal and a pathetic film like this wouldn't work anywhere else. Films like Udaan, Tere Bin Laden, and LSD are innovative but I guess it is too much for the Indian audiences to accept.
