Todos los nombres de Dios (2023)
Way too long for a Guardia Civil advert
This hour and a half hour Guardia Civil advert does a great job showcasing the different units of the security forces, as well as emergency services in Madrid. The obviously stupid plot is just secondary to showcase the different weapons and vehicles, and of course manpower (pretty handsome by the way) available in the fight against the evil Islamic terrorists. However the advert does feel too long, about an hour or so.
The sci-fi use of Artificial Intelligence makes one wonder if the ad has been written by one, and it has given itself a stellar role to round up the hyperbole and a rather meta note.
I will be for sure thinking of the Spanish security forces for my next terrorist emergency.
The First Slam Dunk (2022)
Perfect paced adaptation
I'm not giving it ten points because the 3D crowd was pretty bad in some scenes. Other than that, it's a perfect movie! The pacing, emotion and tension are set up impeccably, and there are several seconds of silence towards the end of the movie where the whole theater was dead silent, some probably holding their breath.
Fans of the manga will recognize iconic scenes that last just long enough. With the same rhythm and comedic timing, you can tell that the manga's author is the director of the film.
It captures the charms of the manga beautifully, while also using the resources of animation to great effect, making it a masterpiece in its own right.
Face/Off (1997)
Face/off? More like hands off the faces, Travolta!
5 for comedic value only. The way Travolta touches his family's faces is hilarious, who decided that's normal behaviour? Extra points at the end when he goes a little too far pressing his daughter's lip.
Simmer (2020)
A bit like a bad Drive knock-off
The acting is stilted, the lead specially has a weird way to show emotions.
The music is really over the top with trying to make things tense, like for example at the beginning abuelita gives the lead a knife as a present and the music is full-on dramatic for some reason.
It tries too hard with the neon look and the synth is just much worse than Drive.
Plot was predictable, not sure how the lead didn't see it coming when everyone watching did.
America Unchained (2007)
A documentary about Dave Gorman
I wish they had cut all the scenes where Dave Gorman is on camera or talking, and made it about the people he met instead. They seem much more interesting.
