Drive (2011)
A modern cult classic, that is not for the faint of heart
If you watch the trailer for Drive you may be expecting a Tarantino style gore fest crossed with films like The Fast and The Furious, but you would be sadly wrong my friend because Drive, Drive is something very special indeed. Drive is from Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn who also directed films such as Bronson and Valhalla Rising, so he's no stranger to gore. The story circles around a nameless Hollywood stunt driver played by Ryan Gosling (Crazy Stupid Love, Ides Of March), who also moonlights as a getaway driver for heist and the like and he meets a girl called Irene played by Carey Mulligan (An Education, Never Let Me Go) and takes a liking to her. I'm not going to go into much detail with the story because I don't want to spoil anything but believe me when I say it is a truly heartfelt film with an incredible attention to detail, it is obvious the director put his heart and soul into making this movie. The performances though are incredible, especially from Ryan Gosling who doesn't say much but is still able to get his point across. Carey Milligan is also fantastic, I truly believe that she and Ryan carried this film, but that doesn't mean the rest of the cast was bad. Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Season Of The Witch) was amazing in which I consider his best role since Hellboy however, Christina Hendricks (Mad Men, Cold Case) was in my opinion the weakest out of all the cast but she was by no means bad she just wasn't up to the standards of the rest. However there is a major part of this film which could turn a lot of people off, and that's the gore. The gore in this movie is infrequent but when it does come it is some of the most brutal and sadistic gore I have ever seen. There were two parts in this film where I winced at the gore levels, and that would take a lot to do that since I have watched Sin City without as much as a recoil. It is also not your typical film watchers film; it's a very slow burner and is not a movie that you could just put on and have a couple of beers whilst watching it, you really need to pay attention otherwise you will get lost. However if you can stick with it, you will be rewarded with some of the most interesting characters, a phenomenal story and buckets of some of the best gore in a film this generation and you have yourself a winner. Just remember the sick bag, believe me, you're going to need it.
St. Trinian's (2007)
About as appealing as a kick in the balls, and even more painful
Where do I begin with what is wrong with this film the story, the acting, the humor everything about this film feels like rusty nails are being hammered into your eyeballs, how this film got made I will never know. This film is best described as a bitter attack on British cinema, maybe even cinema in general it is that bad. The acting is some of the worst I've ever seen at times it is so bad it makes Keanu Reeves seem like Peter'O'Toole, the story and writing are so sloppy it makes Garfield 2 seem like Lord Of The Rings and the humor... I haven't even got a comparison for that every time the film tries TRIES to make a joke or be funny it's like someone is rubbing cheese graters up and down your ears. The way the lines are delivered is so robotic almost to the point of them not sounding human. I have nothing good to say about this movie apart from I can assure you that it will end (asuming you haven't already gone all Tommy DeVito on the disc or hung yourself in sheer agony) and what makes it worse they made a sequel. To sum up don't buy this film, don't rent this film don't even look at this film it is an abomination to the film industry and is one of they many reasons I don't believe in God because if God existed this wouldn't have been given the green light. I leave you with this final thought "Why Stephen, Why"
The Simpsons: Hit & Run (2003)
Guess What? Your Childhood Lied !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are a younger fan of The Simpsons I'm sorry to tell you this but The Simpsons: Hit and Run isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'll admit when I was younger about 6,7,8 I enjoyed this game now I'm 16 and I know how games work now and I have recently played this game again and to be honest... it sucks. OK before I start a landslide of hate I'll get the good things out the way first. The story is quite good and well put together it's stupid but enjoyable and just like an episode of the show. The voice acting is passable the main characters Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Apu all sound great but others aren't to good to say the least. Characters like Burns, Snake and Skinner sound awful and the actors who voice them are the ones who voice them in the show and to me it's not acceptable. Now to the bad. The driving is the main crux of the game but it is so inconsistent it is painful, however it is never spot on it's either to loose or too stiff and the last few missions of the game require pin-point accuracy when it comes to your driving. The graphics can range from bad to horrible and that was by the standards then. Overall it's a hard game to recommend if you are a die hard Simpsons fan go pick it up, as for everyone else stick to other games of it's type such a GTA, Saints Row, Just Cause 2 you are bound to have more fun and a less painful experience.
Battlefield 3 (2011)
Best Online Game Ever Made Rounded Up With An Epic Story
Battlefield 3 is by far and away the best online experience commercially available and with the best story of the series it is the complete package. The story follows an army officer by the name of Blackburn and is being interrogated by two army superiors about some goings on. I won't give too much away but believe me when I say it is intriguing and you will want to see it through towards the end which is also epic. In an interesting twist for one level you play as a Russian by the name of Dima but it can't talk about that without delving heavily into spoilers the end of that section is also very shocking. Now the online my god the online is so epic I can assure you it will keep you hooked for months to come. It is even deeper than before and you are now able to customize your kits to your choosing and is the best around and will take some beating even by the so called 'Mighty MW3' and it also blows their online out of the water. If you care about you're FPS's hell even if you play games, even if you arn't that much of a gamer you need to get this and it WILL make you one. It does have some bugs but nothing to serious and certainly noting to keep you away from this amazing package.
Scream 4 (2011)
You Won't Scream But You Will Love It
Scream 4 or Scre4m is the best Scream film since the original and dare I say better. Scream 4 revitalizes the horror genre yet again just like the first did way back in 1996. It takes elements from the more modern horror films and makes them its own again whilst making mock of them. There are MANY references to the original Scream and other horror films most notably the Saw series of films which in this is portrayed as the Stab films which is interesting. They actually mention at the beginning of the film how much the Stab films are based on the Saw films when you watch it you will see what I mean. This time around it has the best story of the series with the new teens giving it a unique take on modern culture and it really draws you in and it is also the goriest because you see a character (not going to say which one) which their stomach sliced open with their guts all over the bed in great detail. Wes Craven has excelled himself this time and if there are any more THIS will take some beating, more please Mr Craven.
Wilfred (2011)
A funny and sometimes deeply twisted black comedy
Wilfred is an American remake of an Australian sit-com based around the life of a man called Ryan.and a dog called Wilfred. Now here's where it gets interesting everyone sees Wilfred as a regular dog but Ryan sees him as a man in a dogs costume who teaches him important life skills. Que crazy and sometimes quite twisted and surreal goings on. The character of Wilfred is a drug obsessed guy who likes nothing better than to watch Ryan suffer whilst in the process like I said earlier teaching him important life skills it is charming and interesting enough to to watch the entire series. However when it comes to the humor it starts to fall down, Wilfred has a very direct kind of humor and will only really appeal to people with a sick and twisted sense of humour (like myself) and that could turn people off and the acting is not all that great with the exceptions of Jason Gann who plays Wilfred and Elijah Wood who plays Ryan who give funny and sometimes charming and touching performances. Overall it is a great sit-com and can serve in some cases as a compelling drama but as I said it's not for everyone.
Outnumbered (2007)
Outnumbered Is The Best Of British Comedies
Don't listen to that t*** who gave it 1/10 this is an amazing sit-com and it is one of the reasons I am proud to be British. It may be predictable and clichéd but that is part of its charm. Karen and Ben (the younger ones) are the best part their clashes are so funny and their logic is insane. What I mean by that is Karen is so literal and Ben is borderline nuts and thats great. The fourth series is on soon (When this review was posted) and I for one can't wait to see it and if you see this before Friday WATCH IT. Oh and one more thing that guys says it 'depressing' but it's not it deals with issues that any English family would face and I think it is a good mould for parenting you will not believe how much stuff my parents has taken from it (except they don't work cos we know how to get around them)
Green Lantern (2011)
The critics are talking s*** (Spoiler Alert)
Green Lantern is a great film it so didn't deserve the critical thrashing that it got I loved it not the best film of the year but non the less great. The performances were OK Mark Strong as Sinestro was a fantastic as ever his performance reminded me of his performance in Sherlock Holmes as Lord Blackwood which is a great thing Ryan Renyolds did better than expected as Hal Jordan but Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond was down right awful whenever he was on screen it detracted from the experience and which is why I can't give this film any more than 8/10 i'm just glad he dies so he cant be in the next one. Oh and by the way if you stay after the film has finished there is an extra bit which strongly hints towards a sequel so watch out for that.
