Queen (2013)
Saw it this morning, have been smiling constantly since then!
Queen follows the story of the Delhi girl Rani from Rajouri area, and probably one of the best things about the movie was the portrayal of the people living there. The people were very relatable in the sense that we all have that one relative/friend who behaves in the given manner. Even the simple Roohafza bottle at the dinner table scene made me feel so at home I felt I could smell the food.
The soundtrack was excellent, and the songs are relevant to the moment, and do not include any unnecessary mass synchronized choreographed dances.
While the script has a couple of small weak moments, the good moments are so good that we can gleefully ignore the few problems. The growth of Rani in the movie feels organic while she goes on a journey of self actualization. Kudos to the director/writer Vikas Bahl for not falling in the cliché trap by *spoiler alert* keeping Rani single and happy at the end of the movie, instead of showing that her happiness would have depended on her marrying the 'right' guy! *spoiler alert ends*
The Indianisms in the movie were handled in good taste with light hearted fun at the expense of the Indian Rishtedaari (family) system. Small things like Rani's email address "happyrani@yahoo.com", or the not so French, Indian French Toast won me over.
Overall, I believe that Rani is a must watch for everyone, and especially to the Delhiwallas, you are going to have a lot of fun! :D
Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King (2014)
Hail the King!
I give it a deserving 9.5*
Ben Kingsley returns in this wonderful One-Shot, and he doesn't disappoint. The 'twist' in Iron Man 3 had the fandom divided, some people liking Trevor Slattery and the others hating him, but this One-Shot gives the answer to how the hate was misdirected after all. Before I go let me tell you this wasn't a work of appeasement, or Marvel tracking back their footsteps, though they tease it a little when Trevor says, "Once an actor plays a part for too long he becomes the character...", or something. On the contrary the One-Shot establishes the Ten-Rings connection from the first Iron Man and shows that there is yet more depth to uncover in Iron Man's own side story. TLDR: It's an awesome ride for MCU and Iron Man movie fans, though if you are just a regular movie goer, chances are that you won't get what all the fuss is about.
Iron Man Three (2013)
The perfect blend of Action, Comedy, Drama and CGI!
Iron Man 3 was an excellent treat for the eyes, as well as the RDJ fan we all have in our hearts. A careful mixture of Action, Comedy and Drama with excellently executed CGI made this movie appealing to most of our senses, and despite the fact that the Story could have taken a more realistic touch about the military functioning, the dynamics of Tony and Pepper's relation, and the whole part about Tony recovering from his inner demons made the minor problems look insignificant. I am just afraid that the way the movie ends, and with all the rumors going on the internet, we might not see Iron Man for long. Pepper Potts was a nice surprise, WARMACHINEROX, but if someone really made my funny bone tingle, it was the Mk 42 suit, the prodigal son!
