Cybermaster (1999)
Daring fun in sequel
The best way to see CyberMaster (aka Shepherd II) is to make a double bill of this and the original CyberCity (aka Shepherd) and watch them together. While obviously lower budget than the first, it has the good sense to evolve the time-line of the original building on the lives of most of the characters of the first, and the excellent good sense to not take itself too seriously.
The continuing saga of Dakota, Lilith and gang center on the idea that the Earth surface may be habitable again. Miles, determind not to lose control of the underground cities decides to launch the last orbiting nuclear weapons to assure that Earth's surface remains unihabitable, forcing the populations to stay underground where he is the master of all things.
All Dakota has to do is stop him.
Thankfully, C T Howell is back as Dakota, Hidie von Paleske as Lilith, and Mackenzie Gray as the penulimately evil "Miles", and there's a great performance throughout by the spectacular Cherilee Taylor as a "new generation Shepherd".
Some shots are obviously flashbacks to the original but as it makes sense in the story it doesn't bother you too much.
Starhunter (2000)
This is how sci-fi should be
Thisb is how sci-fi should be. In addition to some better than average special fx (and in many episodes Lots of them) Starhunter has ideas, not since early Star Trek or the first seasson of X files has a TV series trusted the viewer to arm wrestle with some questions. ORDER is my favorite episode this way. A life and death struggle in which everyone's faith, or lack of it, is challenged -no cliches or sacherine answers, but humour is rocks along with it.
Dante and Percy are cool characters, and they rarely do the expected. Yeah, maybe there wasn't to much money -I can't tell for sure- but it gives you something most TV doesn't. Hope there's a second season!
Falling Fire (1997)
Falling Fire has Hot Qualities
I've seen the film twice now. I liked it the first time, it had good ideas, good special FX some interesting actors, and managed to keep you guessing.
I don't want to give away the end, but the set up is good, An asteroid being brought into Earth's orbit may be set up to collide with the planet instead causing destruction beyond recovery, that's not original , but the twists are neat- Ecological terrorist are behind it all. These terrorists are well thought out, inteligent, even disturbingly sympathetic. The hard questions about what we're doing to ur world, and the moral issues about extremeists are well woven into a fabric of action, suspense and good old whodunit.
I can tell its a good film, the second viewing still held surprises, suspense and good effects.
