Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
A Mess Filled With Plot Holes.and the Worst Script I Ever Watched
OK, so Batman V (what?!) Superman is not a good movie. In fact it's horrible, it tarnish the characters image, it waste a good Batman and a good Wonder Woman.
Carvill's Superman is still just a scowling animated wax statue.
Wonder Woman is wonderful (pun intended) for all the few minutes she's in the movie. They didn't have time to ruin her.
Affleck's a very good Batman, who would say? Quite good indeed. A shame he's wasted in a horrible script a 6 year old would be ashamed to write.
Lex Luthor is a joke. A sad one. You saw the trailers. It is that bad.
Carvill is not a good actor.
The plot holes... Lord, the plot holes...
Example:
*******************SPOILER*********************
Luthor sends Batman to kill Superman for some unspecified reasons, then later he sends Superman (after kidnapping his mom, sigh) to kill Batman for even more unspecified reasons, then he activates a monster (a Michael Bay's Ninja Turtle, I mean Doomsday) that can destroy the planet and survives a nuclear explosion unscathed to... save the planet from Superman and Batman.
Horrible.
*******************SPOILER*********************
Oh Batman and Superman fight for a few minutes and it's an interesting fight. A shame the reasons why they are fighting are so convoluted and dumb.
If you need to see this movie wait until they release it on Netflix. Giving money to Warner Brothers to watch it in theaters will only end up in more bad movies produced, written and directed by hacks.
Godzilla (2014)
Godzilla is the best and more fun blockbuster of this year
2014 is a year rich, so far, with good movies but Godzilla is the best of the crop.
The monsters are great looking and their interaction with the environment was awesomely made.
Bryan Cranston is amazingly talented and plays a realistic, deep character with gusto.
The first third of the movie is filled with suspense and drama showing the director has full control of his craft.
The second third is not as good but it has many moments of greatness and spectacle.
The third act is a visual, dramatic and fulfilling spectacle for the eyes and mind.
Godzilla 2014 is a gift to us from people who really love this universe and their craft.
Prometheus (2012)
I wish I could give this more stars
It is a beautiful movie with epic images. The first few minutes is a great visual fest with an event that makes you feel the movie will be great.
Then the movie doesn't pay off. A largely unlikeable cast of characters is assembled and as soon as they arrive at their destination they start acting like complete idiots. The audience can see the only (possible) plot twist half an hour before it happens.
The David robot is the only interesting character, Idris Elba and Charlize Theron's talent is largely wasted here with the exception of a few moments where they shine.
It seems Ridley Scot became a shadow of its former self. I guess this movie is worth watching if you like Science Fiction and the Alien series but don't expect much from it.
Pacific Rim (2013)
Amazingly Fun Movie with Great Effects and Action Scenes
Pacific Rim has everything I expect from a quality, smart action movie.
The effects are perfect and the design of the Jaegers and Kaiju are creative and on par with previous Del Toro's visual feasts like Pan's Labyrinth.
The characters are very likable with special mentions to the great performances of Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Hunnam.
Rinko Kikuchi in particular is very talented as she makes her character adorable and bad-ass at the same time. Ron Perlman is perfect as Hannibal Chau.
The fight scenes and accompanying music are adrenaline ridden and breathtaking. The scale of the battles between giants among a crumbling city is epic as it should be.
And speaking of the soundtrack, it has one of the best music I've heard in recent years.
A instant classic and a movie experience all movie lovers deserve to watch.
Side note: I would throw all my money to watch a Pacific Rim x Godzilla Crossover.
Sammy's avonturen: De geheime doorgang (2010)
Simple, but very enjoyable
This is a beautiful animation with fun 3D sequences. It has a simple story with an ecological message but as the movie is aimed at kids that is actually a good thing. The story and message will not fly over the little ones' heads.
The characters are likable and the story's pace go on the right speed, not dragging itself or going too fast.
Good fun for kids and parents as well.
I've watched a dubbed version on Brazilian Portuguese so I can't speak for the original voice work, but this version I watched was very well done.
The English version features the voices of stars like Melanie Grifith and Tim Curry.
I highly recommend the 3D version as the movie has many sequences that will not be as entertaining and good looking on the 2D version.
