Nurse Jackie (2009–2015)
8/10
another excellent performance by Edie Falco
16 February 2011
When I heard that Edie Falco was in another TV drama I definitely had to check it out. I had hoped the writing was good, and I wasn't disappointed. Edie Falco as Nurse Jackie is brilliant as usual. She was great in The Sopranos and she doesn't disappoint in this. She is so gifted, she could make an alphabet recitation interesting. The character Jackie is troubled, complex and caring and she draws you in. The storyline is complex as I'm sure the character arcs will be.

It's refreshing to see a drama with the central focus on a nurse. I tire of the hero worship of doctors on TV and film. Obviously many TV and film writers have little idea generally speaking of what most hospital doctors are like. I can appreciate certain parts of this show since I have been an RN myself for many years. Nurses of course are highly under-appreciated and underpaid.

Eve Best also plays an excellent character as Dr. Eleanor O'Hara. I look forward to her appearance each episode.

This is not a hospital soap opera like "Greys Anatomy" or "ER". It's quirky and complex. I am really looking forward to this show having a long run. I hope Edie Falco continues to get quality roles in her career. She is remarkable.

The Sopranos (1999–2007)
10/10
Consistently great drama
16 February 2011
I won't go into descriptions about the show, but I'll just say the "The Sopranos" is great from beginning to end. I can honestly say without reservation, this is the BEST drama (TV or otherwise) by far I have seen in decades. The chances of getting a cast, the writers, directors and so forth together like this on one show is so rare. The characters are so real one can easily forget one is watching a show. They live. They are multi-dimensional. The writing is brilliant. Edie Falco and James Gandolfini -- what a combination! The rest of the cast is amazing as well. Each episode is like a wonderful feature film. I would never normally rate a show 10, but this one is truly remarkable. It is a must see.

Satisfaction (2007–2010)
8/10
very disappointed this show canceled after 3 series
16 February 2011
I was very disappointed and surprised to hear "Satisfaction" had been canceled after only 3 seasons. I have to be honest, till recent years I have not been a fan of Australian TV series. However, shows like this and "Love My Way" and "Spirited" have changed my mind and made me take a second look at Australia drama.

"Satisfaction" could have continued for at least another 2 seasons. Stories were left untold. The writing was good and it had an excellent ensemble. I found myself very involved with the various characters and as another reviewer stated --- at last a show in which sex workers are not presented as one dimensional.

It's good to see series like "Satisfaction" and "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" and others showing sex workers in a much more realistic light. Sex workers are usually wrongly portrayed as down and out, amoral junkies. This is a complete myth and is also born from misogyny. Personally I have a number of friends who are sex workers and they are some of the most caring, open-minded and non-judgmental people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. They've shared many stories about their lives and their experiences and a great deal of their work involves compassion, kindness and acceptance. I hope at least in this short run of "Satisfaction" it will help change the public's mind about the negative stereotypes portrayed until now.

Intriguing, dream-like
3 February 2011
I really enjoyed Lagerfeld Confidential. I actually found it quite riveting. I enjoyed the stream of consciousness-like feel and I really enjoyed Lagerfeld's dry, insightful and light humour. The nameless people who drifted throughout added to the dream-like quality and you had to guess who they were or what relationship they had (or not) to Lagerfeld.

I may be completely wrong, but reviews which panned this because they said it is not revealing at all, have missed the point. I get the feeling that Lagerfeld is exactly as he is portrayed here. I have met people similar to him in my life and that's how they are. Even though Lagerfeld had say over the final product, I still think this would be quite close to how he is in life. He is very self contained. I thought overall it was intriguing.

I found Lagerfeld's childhood story and how he internalized his mother's reaction to be very sad. .

Lagerfeld made some very profound comments about life towards the end which I found surprising and quite fascinating. I think the title says it all. Lagerfeld said he did not want to be a reality in anyone's lives. He wants to be like an apparition. He thinks solitude is a victory. I think that's the theme of this movie and it came through very clearly. The fact that it wasn't the typical doc is what makes even more interesting.

Modern Family (2009–2020)
10/10
Haven't seen a good comedy like this since Seinfeld
2 February 2011
I'm not easily impressed by comedies, but I haven't seen a comedy this good since Seinfeld. In many ways I feel Modern Family is better than Seinfeld and of course, it's very different. It's one of those shows you could buy the DVD and watch again and again and enjoy it thoroughly each time.

Modern Family is refreshing, warm, smart, hilariously funny, and it does not have a laugh track which is great.

It has a superb cast. Just to name a few: Manny is played beautifully by Rico Rodriguez. This character is refreshing, warm and funny. It's great to see a young male character in a series who is not continually arrogant and rude. He is intelligent and wise beyond his years.

I have to mention Sofia Vergara who is wonderfully vivacious and funny. Eric Stonestreet is just hilarious. The whole cast is wonderful.

I'm glad to see the gay characters being given equal time and are not just someone's sidekick nor are they just token characters as is often the case with all mainstream comedies and shows today.

It's also good to see that many of the cast are just average looking everyday people.

When so many comedies today are so tepid today and such a waste of time and money, this one is stellar. I could go on and on about this show and how good it is. I have only seen the 1st series, but if future series are anything like the first one, I can hardly wait. The show leaves one feeling good. I hope it has a long run.
