Probably at par with Godfather Part 2
21 July 2021
Mahesh Narayanan has given a perfect ode to Godfather Part 2 with Mallik. Technically the movie is one of the best from Indian cinema. Be it the 13 minute opening scene or the pre climax shoot out scene or the scene where the Factory blast happens in the backdrop of the motorcycle, the camera work is outstanding. The performances are equally riveting. The story, the narration and the conflict of the character across ages has been described really well. Also the narration is from three peoples persoective which gives an ode to Akiro Kurosawas movie making. Fafa is brilliant but this purely is a Directors movie. 10/10.

People haven't really understood the content and the context of this movie at all..

Warning: Spoilers
Tarantino has a fan base, not because, he is a pioneer in violent cinema, but because he is an expert proponent of the dark side of human beings, and how that side emerges and is the very definition of the society we live in. In the climax of OUATIH, we see Rick Dalton, getting invited for a drink minutes later he burns a hippie via his flame thrower! It is ironic as well as derivative how Tarantino deals with the society we live in, where the rich and powerful sit in high prizey dinner tables after doing mass genocides. OUATIH is a masterpiece at many levels. On the surface level, it shows humorously the relationship between an actor and his stunt man, and a wife of a famous director who got lost in the charms of Hollywood. Rick Dalton wants recognition as an actor, where Hollywood typecasts him. Cliff needs to do something for survival. And Sharon is faking her life inside rich playboy mansions and the actor in her is lost behind the identity of her husband. Tarantino fascinates in showcasing loneliness of the leads in a sarcastic manner. The movie has cross cultural reference to the kind of times and movies that Hollywood of those times believed in. Loud, spaghetti Westerns, violence laden, angry mob cinema at its peak those days, whereas women are mostly sexualised for glamour. Rich poor divide showcased via hippies who wanted to kill the upper elite one fine night, ending up getting killed themselves. The last 45 minutes is quintessential Tarantino at his best. Again on surface value it will appear to you it's another Tarantinos love for gore and violence climax. But Tarantino really outshone himself as he blurred the lines between protagonists and antagonists in the movie. The hippies who came to ambush the Dalton's! Were they really the bad guy? Or the main cast who killed those hippies brutally? What is the reason for this societal divide? Why people get away being so violent in this society? That's what really Tarantino establishes here. Leonardo was very good. Brad Pitt really surprised me. AL Pacino still holds the magic of screen presence and rest all are fine. Must watch!!

La La Land : A Musical on Love and loss
16 April 2017
La la land is a piece of art. I am not merely saying because of the bright musical that it is or the great acting by the leads. But deep down underline somewhere it shows the conflict between love and dreams and though the movie is dreamy enough, a 33 year old Damien Chazelle never forgets to showcase us that it is not practical to be only in love and be together. We got to make choices between dreams and love to make the memories more beautiful.

Mia and Sebastian could never meet yet they met through their dreams. They couldn't be together yet they always lived in their memories. Love for them was in fulfillment of each others dreams and if Sebastian would not have called Mia for that casting or if Mia could not have confronted Sebastian about his compromise of music over jazz, they would have been mediocre.

Than there is Emma Stone who easily steals the show with her eyes and expressions. This was acting for the ages and Ryan Gosling beautifully underplays himself making her more relevant to the plot , giving her context yet making his presence felt in a subtle manner.

The music was refreshing and the Jazz was infectious. Most importantly i like the way Director plays with the camera and the mood of the movie. He makes Mia as gorgeous as she can be by vibrant deep earthy colors. He makes Sebastian a sad soul without making him speak much and he had the most innovative sets you can see in a long long time.

so yes, La la land is a piece of Art. I wish Damien Chazelle does a musical with Leo someday. Would be refreshing to see.

Tamasha Grows on You....
28 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I am writing a review after ages! And this movie is not about its cast or cinematography as such!Where i got perfectly bold over is in the unique storytelling and vision of the Director.Tamasha is non linear, uncompromising, layered storytelling. It felt like story within story, much like inception. Imtiaz Ali is a Faboulous craftsman and it shows in his opening jumbled up first ten minutes, which makes no sense but in fact it made complete sense as viewers watch the climax scene. He encores the viewers with jumbled up scenes which connects to the whole logic of the movie as you revisit the journey with Ved and Tara! Kudos there! Perfect OST of movies are so rare! And i must tell here AR REHMAN has given one of his careers best soundtracks. It blends with the story perfectly.

The Untold Movement...The right References...The melancholic Acting....Those Mystic Songs...and Above all masterpiece Story Telling!
13 October 2011
" Baise Srabon" ( 22nd Srabon) is Spell Bounding, Erratic, Obnoxious, Mind Crunching and Meaningful all in the right ways! From Direction to Editing, From Songs to Acting, from start to finish it keeps on changing its context! There is so much one can write about the movie, that every anecdote/every phrase/every adjective will fall short of praises! This movie has lot of apt literally influences which makes it all the more special! From the clue containing poetry of the eminent Bengali Poets to the right references of " hungry Movement" of 60's to establish the base of a character, everything is a master stroke.

And on top of it, there is Prasenit, one has to put this movie as a cross reference for Method acting in Indian Cinema. He is such a vibrant performer which is so easy on the eye that most of the time we tend to neglect his abilities! After " Autograph" I was really thinking what difference can he do with this role and he justified his abilities perfectly.

The next point of talk has to be Anupam Roy's Music! Spell Bounding! Each track is easy on the ear and is equally soulful and also meaningful! "Ekbar Bol, Gobheerey Jao and Ei Shrabon" are perfect examples of music blended with lyrical poetry! Any Blemishes! Yeah, some sub plots are unwanted! could have made the movie ten minutes shorter. Also Raima is wasted to an extend! LAstly, go watch this one! They don't make movies like that anymore! Nostalgia! aro gobheerey jao...........................
