Thoroughly enjoyed!!
8 March 2017
I've not seen the original movie, but with my love of history I really enjoyed the two hour premiere. Of course, that generally means (and judging by all of the horrible reviews here) that it will be another short lived show. Like many others, I've held a fascination with Jack the Ripper and am interested to see the story line. H G Wells, was clearly a man ahead of his time, and I think that they will do well with this character. Please give it a chance and stop being so negative all at once. Its refreshing to see something other than a political or hospital drama!!

Much better then expected!

Warning: Spoilers
Being a huge fan of the Buffy and Angel series, I initially looked at this skeptically. I was also a HUGE fan of Forever Knight, staying up late just to catch the eps. That, to me, was the beginning of it all, although I'm sure there are people from a different generation that would say Dark Shadows was. At any rate, when I first read the synopsis I had the same response as so many. Great. Hasn't this been done to death already? The concept itself is taken right out of Forever Knight, except that Nick was a cop. I did have some problems with the first ep and how they changed things. Uh, since when can you not kill a vamp with a stake through the heart? Or since when can they walk out in sunlight? That was annoying. Changing the lore of it all, but by the second episode I was hooked. Alex is nearly as sexy as David Boreanez was when he turned vamp. I damn near fell off the couch the first time he lost it. I think he has just what is needed to pull off the character. He's not drop dead gorgeous, but he has that certain sexy quality. I even think that Sophia Myles is a great casting choice. She's not your typical toothpick cutesy actress. That was one of the things I didn't like about Sarah Michelle Geller's portrayal of Buffy. I just like the cast. As of last week, I can add Jason Dohring to my list of faves about the show. SPOILER******* The ep where Mick's ex wife comes back...so well done! I cannot wait to see where this is going to go. PLEASE, PLEASE CBS, do NOT cancel this show! Let it ride!! Friday night TV is finally enjoyable again!

COMPLETELY disappointing!
15 October 2007
That was two hours of wasted time, if you ask me. I love movies and books about old Hollywood. I love reading the gossips, the mysteries, the murder/suicides...how the studios ran Hollywood...all that stuff. The Black Dahlia is a fascinating story and I was really expecting so much more about it. As one reviewer said, you don't even hear about the Dahlia until 1/3 of the way into the movie! This movie should not have been called the Black Dahlia. It should have had a different title...maybe Fire and Ice or something. The Black Dahlia is deceiving since in the end, its not really about this mystery at all. Its about the relationships of specific characters. The film work was the only reason I can give it a 4.

What a disappointment
15 October 2007
I cannot believe I actually stayed in the theater for this! I should have expected the profanity and crude humor...but I thought that Ben had out grown these types of roles. While watching, I had these flashbacks of Something about Mary...a movie I was not fond of either, but that had some pretty funny moments. This movie had some very funny moments, but not enough to make this movie worth watching. I was severely disappointed in Jerry Stillers character too. Jerry is quite funny and can be so with the vulgarity. And the crudeness of the 'wife' just made me want to gag. I could not believe it. I'm not a fan of Cameron Diaz, but she did a better job making me laugh then this woman did. I highly recommend that anyone that has even contemplated seeing this, save their money. If you really want to see it, wait for cable.
