NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service: Black Sky (2023)
You had me until the "cliffhanger"
I'm an NCIS fan. Have watched every episode. I stuck around when Tony left. I stuck around when Ziva left. I'm invested in these characters.
But the end was so out of character as to be ridiculous. I wish I could have booed. Now we have to wait a few months for the next season to explain a plot point that doesn't interest me because it is so unbelievable.
I won't ruin it anymore than that pointless ending already did. Just curious if anyone (everyone?) else in NCIS land feels the same. I mean that was off character. Contrived. Not believable. Ruined the ending of a perfectly fine season finale.
Miracles from Heaven (2016)
Love this movie
It is a gem of a true story! With quality acting and cinematography. It's prayerful, and realistically portrays Christian faith experiences (trust, forgiveness, doubt, anger, humility, conversion, love, gratitude). If you're a person of faith, this is a must see. If you're not, perhaps this family's witness is one you need to see for yourself.
One for the Money (2012)
Cute, entertaining and true enough to the original book
Stephanie Plum fans should not be disappointed with this big screen adaptation. It follows the original book's salient plot points well. And Katherine Heigl is sassy and sexy enough to be Stephanie Plum. I was impressed. Sorry that they haven't made any more Plum adaptation.
Ray Donovan: The Dead (2019)
Ray comes through, as usual
Wasn't sure where this was going in the end but I'm so glad it did. As usual, Ray puts everything to rights, while selling his soul in the process. But I feel hopeful about his future, tbh.
He deserves a little "me time" after all he has suffered and iutbhimself through. Tortured soul with the heart of a lion. Thank God he will have someone to listen to him, with no private agenda.
The Bridget thing was the best part of the whole episode imo. And the comic relief was welcome. While seemingly unexpected, upon closer reflection it is 100% in character. Perhaps all of her anger and rejection of Ray was simply internal conflict fighting against what was inevitable. She's always been a Donovan, through and through. She is ultra committed to her uncles and her grandfather. And perhaps she's more like her father than she ever wanted to admit.
And, they don't teach dismembering in school. That's an innate skill.
The Americans: START (2018)
The perfect ending
Life is all about choices and some choices are gut wrenching. I always questioned Elizabeth's connection with her children. But the ending! Her and Phillip's heartbreak was real and the way their humanness finally came out was real too. But like every well matched couple, they seemed to turn toward each other to get through it.
