Slapface (2021)
A haunting look at childhood fears
SLAPFACE is a beautifully constructed and powerful fairy tale that explores the fears of loss and the lengths a young mind will go to protect itself. With wonderful young actors tackling very grow up emotions and a strong directorial vision, SLAPFACE is a unique and heartbreaking film.
The Dinner Party (2020)
Give it a few....
This film starts slow and exposition heavy. Horror is my main man genre and I am pretty accustomed to the opening of indie horror being tedious and poorly acted, as if the main actors are just waiting for the action to kick in and the blood to start spilling. This one suffers a bit from that, as well as the overindulgence in the characters saying each other's names constantly.
That aside, the main party is solid, each character has their own fun, wicked personalities, even if some of it comes off as cliche.
Even though you know what's coming, the gore is fun and the comedy solid.
Strange though, Jeremy London is first billed, but he's not in this movie.
Elliot (2020)
A brutal, bloody good time
There's a deeper sadness betwixt the brutal kills in this indie horror. The score is both schizophrenic and controlled and everything seems like it's been carefully plotted out in the story. Writer/Director/Lead Travis Darkow does a great service to extreme cinema without compromising taste. "Elliot" is a fun watch with creative kills, but don't take my word for it...
