Stella (2012)
Amazing Welsh Comedy
I absolutely love this show, I was a tad hesitant to watch Stella to begin with because I thought no way could it be anywhere as good as Gavin and Stacey but in my opinion it's better and that's saying something as I love Gavin and Stacey. Ruth Jones is an amazing actress and writer and the story line is incredible, it's funny, it has serious issues and most of it is set in my home town the Rhondda valleys. The characters are so lovable and you can't not like one even if I do prefer a few of the characters more than others. You have Paula and Dai the naughty couple, Stella and her childhood sweetheart Rob and her new young, hunky boyfriend Sean, you have Stella's ex husband Carl and his new wife Nadine and also Carl and Stella's children Ben and Emma and also Stella's son Luke who is also Robs son and then you also have Emma's husband Sunil and their child Abra the storyline also follows Sunhils family and a lot of other well liked characters in the small town of Pontyberry. It's definitely worth watching, I have many times and still can't get enough of it.
Beastly (2011)
What's with all the haters? it's Sweet!!
Okay, so I admit after waiting patiently for months for this film to come out as I'm a sucker for romance films. I was a little put off by the reviews and ratings given to this title but I thought heck it's only on for a short amount of time so either way I'm not losing anything.
It wasn't the best chick flick I've ever seen but it definitely was not the worst and the hidden message behind it all was heart warming, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it's not always about looking good it's about how beautiful you are on the inside.
As for the acting ability, Neil Patrick Harries played an amazing role as the tutor, Vanessa Hudgens played an okay part I can't seem to shake the HSM image but she did well considering and Alex Pettyfer well he was pretty good too considering I've only seen him in one other chick flick, Wild Child.
The only thing I must admit wasn't very good was 1) it's not on for very long 2) the script did seem to be a little rushed maybe if they'd extended it by another 30 mins things might have seemed more stretched out instead of rushed.
So would I recommend this film, yes I would, ignore the crap ratings and reviews and go for it, yeah you might not like it, it may only be for the tastes of me a few others but I personally thought it was a pretty good film and I'd probably end up watching it again in the future, it was sweet!
Cherry Tree Lane (2010)
OK move one-off, won't watch again!
I did enjoy the film I thought it was very raw, very... British, the acting was okay by each "thug" and the parents of course.
I don't know I just found it quite disturbing to be honest, first these thugs rush into the house, attack the parents looking for their son, beat the dad to a pulp, rape the mum and then have the cheek to sit there watch their TV, drink their squash and go to the cash machine to get some of their money?
Like I said it was a good film, a little over the top and shocking but British movies do have that reputation.
Would I recommend this film, not sure, if your into that raw British thing then yes, if not don't bother, definitely not one of the best British made films.
I was also left at the end feel kind of numb and thinking what the hell just happened and what the hell is going to go on now? It ended with me wondering a lot of questions!
Raise Your Voice (2004)
Top 10 best 'chick flicks' of all time.
I've given this move the highest rating possible. As the tag line says, one of the top 10 chick flicks of all time.
I highly recommend this film! If you want a tear-jerker, romance, singing-school kind of film this nails it on the head exactly. Hilary Duff really strives in her acting as Terri Fletcher in this movie about a talented girl who struggles to comes to terms with the death of her brother who wanted nothing more than to see his little sister make it in the world as a singer. She's packed away to school which thrives on upcoming music stars and there she finds her place in the world, singing next to Oliver James
This film will make you weep, smile and even sing along once you've watched the film enough LOL!
