Four Lives (2022)
Merchant brilliant but supporting cast underwhelms
Merchant is cold, calculated and perfectly encapsulates the pathetic Port. He is a fantastic, under rated actor. Sheridan Smith is also superb.
Rufus Jones, Ian Puleston-Davies and Jason Done do a fantastic job with the amount of screen time they are given. However, I am surprised the director chose not to utilise these two actors more given their superior capability to some of the other cast members.
Sadly, many of the supporting cast, such as the relations of those who died, are extremely unconvincing in their performances.
However, overall, this felt like a really accurate portrayal of a really horrific event. BBC back to its best? Almost.
House of the Dragon: We Light the Way (2022)
Acted and directed beautifully
This had a slow build but the final 20 minutes were television gold. The music as Emily (Alicent) entered the room was perfectly intense and this only grew with the dance scene. This is beautiful old school GOT which is acted and directed to perfection. We will miss Emily and Milly though.
Amongst all of this, I feel Paddy Considine's acting has gone under the radar. He has played the role to absolute perfection. His tone of voice and facial expressions are genuine gold.
I am apprehensive but excited for the time jump as it's going to be very difficult to get used to only some of the actors changing. It's set up to be a legendary series.
Hawkeye: Partners, Am I Right? (2021)
The Shot I Never Took
Jeremy Renner's acting really does elevate this TV series from a 7/8 to a 9. He's so believable in the role. His sadness and pain are sold in every single scene. Incredible performance in a very good show. Thanks Marvel.
Doctor Who: Flux: Chapter One - The Halloween Apocalypse (2021)
Great pace and Whittaker is coming into her own.
Ignore those who are being negative for the sake of it. A truly enjoyable episode. 8.5 out of10. John Bishop and Jacob Anderson were absolutely fantastic.
The Outlaws: Episode #1.1 (2021)
Fantastic characterisation
Some great one liners in the show. But more importantly, some really expertly crafted characters who you can't help but feel invested in. Merchant's writing and directing is superb. The cast are fantastic. Overall, 8.5/10 for episode 1!
Ted Lasso: Midnight Train to Royston (2021)
Feel Good Factor is Turning
I honestly cannot explain how good this show is.
I've never been this invested in characters before. I'm terrified of what is going to happen to a certain relationship. The writers have done an incredible job of leaving us feeling suspenseful and scared. Will they bring back the feel good factor next week?
WandaVision: The Series Finale (2021)
The Greatest Finale of all Time
The ending of this epic series was incredibly satisfying.
Wanda has learned the true extent of her powers and as a result defeats Agatha Harkness. The boys quite easily conquer the army.
Vision seems to use his intelligence to defeat fake Vision, but it certainly seems as though they have set up his potential return.
Speaking of returns, this won't be the last wee see of Agatha.
The series finale nicely rounds off all of the storylines to leave the viewer satisfied. It doesn't appear there'll be a season 2, but we know there's much more to come from Olsen's Wanda.
There's a post credit scene that appears to set up the next stage of Monica's development that you must stay tuned for.
THEN, there is another post credit scene where we find Wanda has isolated herself from the rest of society, perhaps to keep them safe. Meanwhile, the Scarlett witch seems to be learning and reading. We hear Tommy screaming for help.
Perhaps she is trying to learn how she can restore her children to reality?
Marvel have outdone themselves with this series. We are lucky that we get to see more from Olsen in the future. Cannot wait.
WandaVision: Previously On (2021)
To move forwards you have to go back (post credit scene!)
A somewhat frustrating episode of WandaVision if I am entirely honest. In order to drive the plot forward, we are shown the horror's of Wanda's past and what led to her isolation. This loneliness ultimately led to her utilising her chaos magic like never before to create the world we have watched unfold.
Agatha Harkness revealed her powers and she seems obsessed with learning more about Wanda. She seems more villainous that in the comics but she did reveal to Wanda at the end "you are the scarlet witch" - the first time her super hero name has been used.
The post credit scene is where the biggest plot twist was found - we see Vision seemingly reanimated. A combination of his body and 'power from the source' - Wanda/mind stone - seems to have reanimated his vibranium corpse - to what effect we'll have to see next week.
We are left with that bombshell as well as the lack of clarity on what will happen to Wanda's children as well as where the hell Monica has gone!
It's left us ready for an epic finale next week! I cannot wait!!!!
WandaVision: Breaking the Fourth Wall (2021)
The Somewhat Unsurprising Reveal
This episode was not as action packed as the last couple but continued to bring plenty of mystery and drama.
Elizabeth Olsen's Julie Bowenesque performance seemed to perfectly mirror Clair Dunphy from modern family as her, vision, the boys and Agatha broke the fourth wall on a regular basis.
The boys have vanished. Seemingly at the hands of Agatha Harkness (Agnes). This will be a familiar plot line for comic readers but will be a surprise to some. The episode ends with Wanda asking for their whereabouts only for it to be made clear that Agnes has been 'running the show' the entire time. Hopefully we will discover their whereabouts next week.
It remains to be seen whether she can manipulate reality or whether she's just been manipulating Wanda. Either way, she's going to be a somewhat powerful villain.
Darcy and Vision's interactions were meaningful but didn't drive the plot forwards.
Monica has definitely gained her super powers. And while we are on the subject of Monica, there is a post credit scene worth watching. She is looking for Wanda when she is confronted by 'Pietro' - another identity which could be revealed next week. (Maybe Mephisto??)
Overall, another engaging week of WandaVision and it's no surprise this is the most talked about series on TV at the moment. Bring on next week.
WandaVision: On a Very Special Episode... (2021)
So many more mysteries.
This week's episode was simply fantastic. Time has sped up in the form of the sit com out put and the ageing of the boys. Vision is starting to unravel the truth but Wanda remains in denial that she is total control. It is unclear whether she is being manipulated by someone.
Agnes' role remains mysterious but she is definitely significant.
Every time a question is answered, two more mysteries are brought to the forefront.
I have to say this is the most engaging series I have seen since Game of Thrones. I'm desperate for the next episode!
WandaVision: We Interrupt This Program (2021)
Purposeful and necessary
This week's episode was essential. It gives the series much more purpose to see the impact it is having on the outside world. Some of the mysteries from past episodes were solved this week.
The friendship of Darcy and Jimmy is really compelling.
The ending of the episode left us with more mystery and suspense than ever before and we are left asking even more questions.
Overall, a really enjoyable episode... even if it didn't drive the plot forwards quite as much as the last three episodes.
WandaVision (2021)
Mysterious, intriguing and littered with Easter eggs.
Each episode asks so many questions. Mystery is everywhere. From the noisy neighbour Agnes to the red and yellow helicopter, I am left asking loads of questions. This is exactly what you want from a weekly series. I think a lot of the people who rated this low either: expected a typical action sequence, which it was never going to be, or wanted to put down something because it was part of the MCU. The show perhaps asks you to be mildly intelligent and read between the lines a lot, something that clearly some people aren't capable of doing.
Bettany and Olsen offer captivating performances.
I really enjoyed the show. I would give it an 8 but the ridiculous 1 ratings made me go for a 10.
Sherlock: The Reichenbach Fall (2012)
Martin Freeman is captivating
No spoilers ahead. Just a shout out to some truly incredible acting from Martin Freeman. One of the world's least appreciated actors. Benedict Cumberbatch is also fantastic.
13 Reasons Why: The World Closing In (2019)
The Tapes
It was incredible to see Bryce finally listen to the tapes. Once again, the acting was top notch - Christian Navarro as Tony stood out this episode. Seeing Bryce fully understand the pain he has caused is agonisingly captivating. The ratings should be much higher in my opinion - the first four or five episodes weren't amazing but since then it's really picked up.
13 Reasons Why: Always Waiting for the Next Bad News (2019)
Best episode yet
I absolutely adored this episode - watching Clay and Justin's bond grow has been really enjoyable this season, they're brothers.
Justin's internal struggle is really captivating. The actor (Brandon Flynn) puts in an impeccable performance alongside the ever present Dylan Minette.
Orange Is the New Black: Just Desserts (2019)
Music, acting and plot all truly compelling
The new warden 'Ward' is an exciting prospect.
McCullogh's arc is intriguing although it has harrowing potential. The ending was the best part, with impeccable sorrowful music played over the top. Season 7 has got off to an exciting start and looks to captivate an engrossing, if some what inconsistent, series.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Renner steals the show in star-studded classic
What an incredible motion picture. The cast were truly fantastic, but Renner completely stole the show.
Amongst other fantastic performances from the likes of Downey Jr, Paltrow, Hemsworth, Johnasson and Holland, Renner's portrayal of Hawkeye stood out.
A character who is criminally under-appreciated in the MCU has a good amount of air time in this 3 hour block buster and deservedly so - Renner, while unlikely to receive any award nods, undoubtedly should.
