Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011)
Awful twee romp with detestable unrealistic characters.
This has to be one of the worst film I've ever had to endure and undoubtedly the worst performances by Ewan McGregor and has tainted his character forever.
The female lead played by Emily Blunt has to be one of the worst characters ever conceived in all in Cinema history. She is an obnoxious, self-absorbed, loathsome, tiresome, twee, unrealistic and spiritually broken turd. That would only have any appeal with equally as terrible people.
Ewan McGregor's character is a revolting stereotype of the typical twee little British c*** who enjoys the simpler things in life whilst the world soars above his head - Oh Jesus Christ this film was so terrible even thinking about it makes me feel so genuinely bored and full of apathy. I'm struggling to wonder if I can make it to the end to explain how utterly dire this film is.
It's a whimsical nonsense fest that is firstly a VERY BAD STORY and secondly it's told VERY BADLY. Even asking a junkie who's just pinned up a major dose of smack to read the instructions off a frozen pizza box would be tenfold more exciting and emotive.
I'm mostly concerned with how much damage this kind of film does to the British image; it's actually rather racist to paint us all as either women trying to come to terms with themselves or little smee like characters.
The whole pace of the film feels like boring episode of a soap opera, I was shocked to discover that the film was 104minutes because it felt like an absolute lifetime that I was in that darkened cinema being tormented by this absolutely dire construction.
After leaving the cinema I felt like Nelson Mandela leaving prison after 27 years of captivity. I was so glad it was over but the memories of it still linger, like flashbacks of a cell-beating.
This isn't so much of a film but an irritating endurance that has not been seen since The Legend of The Rollerblade 7. Save yourself the pain, apathy and regret - don't watch this film.
The Ren & Stimpy Show: Space Madness/The Boy Who Cried Rat! (1991)
Space madness - A total classic.
Space Madness is probably the best Ren and Stimpy episode you're ever likely to encounter. If you're unfamiliar with the characters and what Ren and Stimpy is all about then this is a good place to start. It's well written, the voice acting by Billy West - who provides most of the voice in Futurama (Fry, Professor, Zoidberg)- is absolutely amazing and adds real character, humour, warmth and life to the animation.
It's the usual Ren meltdown situation, Ren becomes eerily transfixed on the concept of going mad in space and how to avoid it. The isolation and exploration of deep space drives Ren quickly insane, this causes a humorous memorable meltdown with funny results.
There's obvious reasons why children loved Ren and Stimpy's wacky antics but there's much to offer an adult audience too. Ren's madness is quite something to witness, the madness portrayed in the episode is similar to real psychotic delusions - some which may occur in space or under the influence of "space-like drugs", such as LSD, PCP or cocaine mixed with amphetamines.
