White Hot: The Rise & Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch (2022)
Not great
This documentary was basically retelling events we already knew of and the end was weirdly optimistic? I was obsessed with A&F when I was a teenager and as a result was watching the fallout live. When I saw that this documentary was coming out I was hoping for something more.... Everyone's take felt lukewarm, and the optimistic ending just felt like "did Abercrombie sponsor this documentary?". There was so much potential and I felt like none of it was showing.
The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun (2021)
The French Dispatch
This has got to be the most Wes Anderson Wes Anderson movie of all time. It's chaotic, but structured. There's no real plot to it, rather it's three short stories (with the third act being the strongest). Recommend watching it twice to get a good sense of what's going on.
Definitely not the best Anderson movie, but I get the feeling that this was more of a passion project than anything else.
Grace and Frankie (2015)
More Tomlin and Fonda please!!!
Such a cute and funny show. I have always loved Jane Fonda and have loved every second of her performance in this show. However, as talented as Lily Tomlin is, they really did her character dirty. Frankie was funny, quirky and a bit whacky in an endearing way. But as the show progresses Frankie gets more and more annoying, selfish and outright stupid, and it kind of ruins the show a bit for me.
The storylines are still great, there are so many sweet and honest moments and of course lots of fun! I just hope the writers bring back the original Frankie for season seven. Don't do our girl Lily Tomlin like that, she deserves more!
Dream Home Makeover (2020)
Bubbly personalities
I really liked the show. I think Shea and Syd have really bubbly and nice personalities that work so well with the show. I've seen a lot of people complaining about how it's all the same style over and over. THAT IS THE POINT!! They hired Shea because they love her style and what she does, so I don't really care for that kinda criticism. Having said that, I would've liked to see more about the renovation process / building their own house.
Bridgerton (2020)
Beautiful set and costume designs
The costume and set designs were really beautiful. It's a perfect feel-good, easy-watch series to end the year with. Some plots were kinda predictable, but didn't make the show any less enjoyable. Living for the diversity of the cast and you could tell they had fun shooting this series.
Young Wallander (2020)
Decent crime drama
Decent crime drama overall. Adam Pålsson plays a pretty good young Wallander and I think the acting of the cast is better than most people made it out to be. The story is pretty good in terms of pace, storyline and character development.
However, the series have some big flaws. First of all, why they chose to not film the series in Sweden, specifically Malmö, is beyond me. Would love to find out why they chose Vilnius as their filming location. Secondly, the setting feels so "un-Swedish". I get that the series is meant for an international audience but it feels so disconnected from Sweden. The only thing that is Swedish about it are the names of characters - which are butchered by the way - and if they're all gonna speak English why even bother.... you can't just slap the name Wallander on a series and expect it to be enough. Thirdly, would have loved for the show to stick to a more dark / depressing tone like the original series.
The Last Thing He Wanted (2020)
Relax and enjoy
I feel like people are being unnecessarily critical of this movie. Is it Anne Hathaway's best performance? Maybe not, but the movie is still good. It has a good storyline and isn't dragged out. Just relax and enjoy the movie for what it is. You kinda get the sense that the average reviewer tried to make the movie something it's not. Going in without watching the trailer, or look on IMDb I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Rick and Morty: Claw and Hoarder: Special Ricktim's Morty (2019)
Literally unwatchable
I started the episode and it seemed decent. The main plot with the dragon had a lot of potential but turned bad so quickly. It's basically people swearing and saying for 20+ minutes and I didn't even bother. I can't believe anyone thought this episode was funny.... it didn't feel like Rick and Morty AT ALL. I've watched the first three seasons maybe 10 times now and love them. Really beginning to lose hope for this season, which is sad considering it was so highly anticipated.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Bittersweet ending for the fans
I have to say I am one of the few who isn't disappointed with the ending in itself. It's bittersweet. However I will say that I am disappointed with the episode because of the complete inadequacy of the directors. They had such an opportunity to finish off this fantastic series witch a banger last season, and although there was good intention wasn't enough to do it justice.
The last episode could've been so much more if the viewers had been given MORE. Plot holes throughout the episodes in season 8, shocking moments for the sake of being shocking. I think that HBO in general has completely let down the loyal fans who have followed the story from the very beginning to the last episode, which is quite insulting considering they had such a long time to produce this final season.
My rating therefore doesn't reflect the last episode on its own, but the whole season. Congratulations on ruining such an epic series D&D.
