I, Robot (2004)
A good summer popcorn movie, nothing more
Look, I grew up reading Asimov. I read "I, Robot" when I was 10. While this carries some of the spirit of the book (very loosely), it isn't the thoughtful narrative concerning that Asimov wrote.
And honestly, how could it be? The "I, Robot" anthology is as unfilmable now as "Lord of the Rings" was 20 years ago. What came of this collaboration is an entirely watchable (if entirely dismissable) summer popcorn movie.
Will Smith is enjoyable, if a little darker than normal in his role. The rest are as replaceable as the extra crewmen in a "Star Trek" episode. The only other role with anything is ironically, the robot. Oh, you'll know which one I'm talking about 10 minutes in.
Look, if you want an evening of enjoyable fun, see this one. If you're one of those whiners that are going to complain about Asimov's legacy being dirtied, then stay away.
Give My Regards to Broad Street (1984)
Not so bad..
If you're a McCartney fan, it's the equivalent of a hour and a half music video. No real plot. Silly dialogue.
It's essentially a self indulgent effort. Much in the same line as Magical Mystery Tour. Not as creepy, but not as inventive either.
But I saw it in HD at home last night and the soundtrack was certainly worth it.
EXCELLENT sound.
So if you would like to see what is essentially a McCartney / Beatles Video starring Paul and Ringo, this is right up you're alley.
Some minor parts as well may have some interest to fans.
Again, if you're not a McCartney fan, then you'd probably skip this one.
If you are, and can get it with full sound, then do it.
