Idiocracy (2006)
Must see entertainment for every American
Details the dumbing down of America as a post apocalyptic farce. Hits way too close to home. I saw this years ago but should have been mandatory viewing for every Moronic voter in 2016. You know who you are. Luke Wilson, Maya Rudolph and Terry Crewes shine. Mike Judge's droll humor will and should scare you. It starts as a lazy ass comedy about time travel but ends with a peek into America's future. When it first came out it seemed outlandish and ridiculous. Now it amuses and scares at the same time. Good movie to show your Uncle in QANON. It will sneak up on them but should be a 2x4 to the noggin at the end.
Napoleon (2023)
A spectacle, a masterpiece in cinematography! Ridley Scott still has got IT.
I thoroughly enjoyed this on the big screen. Movie hits most of the major battles, attempts to get into Napoleon's head, I feel it succeeded. Vanessa Kirby is a surprising success as Josephine. She was not the first choice but nearly steals every scene from Joaquin. The film spends nearly as much time on their tumultuous relationship as the military campaigns. Joaquin is brilliant.
I am definitely going to be watching the 4 plus hour director's cut when it is released. 2 hours and 36 minutes is a great try at covering a movie about Napoleon, but it obviously leaves much out.
One should read the wiki page about Napoleon prior to viewing. Definitely worth seeing on the big scene.
The Final Countdown (1980)
Has not aged well
This was a big film when I was in the Navy in the mid and late 80's. If you are into carrier aviation watch it. If you want to see Kirk Douglas in one of the worst roles of his career, ouch. Plot is ridiculous, writing is meh, cast IS stellar. Seems like producers thought filming carrier ops on the USS Nimitz would sell enough seats. I just finished watching, many unintended comic moments. CGI is horrible. Flight scenes are real with some vintage planes and many t-6's playing Japanese naval aircraft of December 1941.
I feel like the 3/10 is generous for a cinematic experience but as a Navy recruitment ad circa 1980 it's an 8.
The Bob's Burgers Movie (2022)
If you are a fan of tv show its a must see on the big screen
I am a fan of the tv show and I thought this somehow was better, prettier, and funnier. Most of our fave characters from the show are here. Somehow Jimmie Pesto escaped with only a cameo shot.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Flight of the ????
Decent storyline mixed with plentiful in flight action makes this movie worth watching. Cruise surrounds himself with talent from Ed Harris and Jon Hamm to Jennifer Connelly and Miles Teller. The supporting cast shines also. The melodrama of Goose's death and the animosity his son feels toward Maverick doesn't detract from an over the top movie we all have been waiting for. Editing, production and casting nailed it with the writers making the best of the tripe from the original. I give it 9 stars but the only flaw I can seriously think of was that it was based on the original released in 1986 and that movie was lacking in so much except style.
Skyggen i mit øje (2021)
A Must See
Just finished watching and I have to nominate this movie for best movie of ww2. I just happened to scroll through Netflix and it caught my eye. The last time I felt the level of emotion was "'71". I think it multiplied it by 3. The final scene is one of the greatest in movie history.
Netflix has it listed under the title "THE BOMBARDMENT"
The Great (2020)
Great TV! Will make you smarter!!!
The acting is wonderful. The writing is some of the best! The history made me want to learn! Peter III only reigned for a short time but Nicholas Hoult's performance makes it "ok". Madcap fun!
Goodland (2017)
Fargo, Kansas
A low budget flick that works! Using my movie pass before they go bankrupt. Good performances by the Sheriff and Ergo... some plot holes but kept me entertained with a minimum of groans for cliches...
Director did a great job of making movie look high budget. Extras were the stars. A little slice of Americana. 7 might be generous but it had the feel that someone really wanted to make a good movie and gave a s#%t!
The Squid and the Whale (2005)
Philistines!
If you don't think this is one of the greatest movies ever... you know what you are!
Babylon Berlin (2017)
Subtitles Only!!!
Don't watch it dubbed... after seeing first 4 episodes on my phone subtitled I started to watch on another device dubbed. Bad move! Dubbing is horrible!!!
