Young Sheldon: Memoir (2024)
thank you
To the cast and writers of this show. This had to be one of the best finale's to a series we had ever seen. The addition of adult Sheldon and his wife Amy providing narration to a sad but pivotal chapter in Sheldon's life was done well and really added something special to wrapping up the series. Looking forward to the next spin-off with Georgie and Mandy as they are very likeable characters but I hope the change in format, live audience, doesn't take away from the show in any way. Also hope they just keep to writing episodes ala Young Sheldon that are light, humorous but at times demonstrate that life truly does throw you curve balls but they can be overcome. Also hope the rest of the Cooper family drops by now and then as their characters were a pleasure to watch as well.
Leverage: Redemption (2021)
why..
Did they have to go PC? The original show was an entertaining but when they feel the need to go social justice instead of just "justice", there is a tendency to just move along and find another show. Pity, as this show was a nice respite from every day reality. Evidently I'm not the only one who has seen the shift as seen within other reviews here. Here's hoping the powers the be at the Leverage: Redemption headquarters return to the original format and leave the presumptive societal problems on the cutting room floor please. BTW, what did they do to the "Parker" character? They've turned her into a silly caricature of her former self. The brooding, serious Parker was better.
1000-lb Sisters (2020)
Entertaining...
I watch this show for entertainment, nothing more, nothing less. The family is likable enough, especially Amanda and Chris, they are a hoot and I'm glad they have larger roles. I wasn't a fan at all in the beginning after watching the 1st few episodes because I just thought it was so ridiculous and beyond foolish but I came back in the 3rd season while channel surfing one night and it seemed to have dialed back a little on the obnoxious childishness that Amy and Tammy displayed all the time as they seemed to have matured a bit and others from the family also started coming in having bigger parts and now it's something I make a point to watch each week. Like I said, they're an entertaining lot and I'll keep watching as long as they keep filming, nothing more, nothing less.
Frasier (2023)
We so had high hopes...
But unfortunately they were dashed. LOVED the original Frasier, the ENTIRE cast and the witty writing. The cast went about the business of "acting", seemingly without effort. They made their characters real and believable, never letting on that they were parroting lines from a script but actually coming from their own thoughts and mouths. While Kelsey & Nicholas of the new show are fine, the rest of the cast all seem to be chomping at the bit for their turn to speak their lines and when they do, they don't come across as authentic. It all just seems too forced and like a workshop exercise. We made it to the 4th episode hoping they would all settle down but alas, not the case. We're now watching the original Frasier from the 1st episode and the difference is night and day. Maybe the cast of the new Frasier would do well to watch the original and take notes about how those actors crafted their roles into people we could imagine as genuine.
Manifest (2018)
Despite the harsh criticisms...
Regarding season 4, this show is still worth watching. We're looking forward to watching the 2nd half when it's released soon. The characters are likeable and the plot lines are interesting. The story moves right along and really doesn't get bogged down with a lot of senseless minutia. We really don't understand why some call it boring as each episode starts and ends with a reason to keep coming back for more. Overall this is an entertaining series and when Netflix picked it up we were very happy that the story would continue and if they choose to give it a season 5 we will definitely be back for more.
The Winchesters: Legend of a Mind (2022)
pity...
Thought with the pedigree Jensen and Danneel garnered from their years at SPN, this show would be "must see" tv for sure but alas, it's not. As someone else mentioned, "booorrringggg" is an apt description. I have found myself nodding off during EVERY episode, which tells me that the subject matter and the acting are not riveting enough to hold my interest and keep me awake. I'll be dazed and amazed if this show makes the cut for another season as I just don't see, after 5 episodes now, much improvement. Maybe the teenage audience can keep it going but for us older folks who enjoy a good "supernatural" story, it's highly doubtful we'll be hanging around much longer as we have a hard enough time trying to stay awake as it is!
The Winchesters: Teach Your Children Well (2022)
Still not there yet....
I can't help thinking that what made SPN so compelling was the casting, the people who eventually made the roles their own. Sam & Dean were spot on right out of the gate and as the show progressed, the casting just got better and better. For instance the minute Crowley opened his mouth and uttered his first line, we knew we wanted more. Same with Bobby, Rufus, Rowena, Lucifer, Meg ( both incarnations but especially Rachel Miner). Those people helped make the show. The casting was exceptional. The story lines were well put together and adult. This show seems more aimed at strictly teens, even though it's a 1970's based period piece. The 70s flashbacks in SPN seemed more realistic than this show has so far tried to portray. We'll give it another try next week but so far there's really nothing that makes this "must see tv" for us older folks who are fans of the "supernatural".
The Winchesters (2022)
We SO wanted to like this but....
We're just not feeling the characters at all. The two sidekicks, we could easily do without. John is a definite maybe and we can see him growing into the role but Mary not so much. Overall, it feels as though not enough time was taken to really put this together, storyline and casting. Heaven knows Jenson KNOWS how a show like this should look and feel but it's not there. The only thing that was good was the music, like with SPN, that was always a constant you could depend on. Having grown up in the 60's-70's it was one of the 1st things that drew us into SPN in the 1st place. We both agreed, the scene at the very end, the glimpse of "Dean" and "baby" was the highlight. We will tune in for another episode or two in the hopes it turns into something that we can look forward to every week but unless things start coalescing pretty soon, I fear Jensen and Danneel's idea will be going up in so much smoke, much like an exorcised demon and that would be a real shame. We fans of the supernatural (not the show) have been lost as there has been nothing since Supernatural came to an end. We're pulling for you Jensen & Danneel, you can do this.
The Terminal List: The Engram (2022)
WOW
This show does NOT fool around, it grabs you right from the start, beginning with this episode 1 and doesn't let go. I can see us up until the wee hours of the morning because I don't see us leaving this series until the end of season 1. Thank you Amazon & Chris Pratt for bringing Commander Reece & company to our screens. Now excuse me, we have 7 more episodes to complete!
The Boys: Herogasm (2022)
Best episode so far
Wasn't sure what I was getting into when I saw the title of this one however it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Pushed the envelope? Yes it did but wasn't overly focused on Supe hedonism and I was able to more focus on the faces/dialogue of the main characters than what was going on behind and around them. Lastly, this episode shows what a tremendous asset Soldier Boy/Jensen Ackles is and will continue to be to this to show. Kudos all around on the casting, past and present!
The Boys: The Last Time to Look on This World of Lies (2022)
getting better all the time
The 1st episode of this season didn't put me over the moon, a little "raw" for my aging eyes but as my title says, "getting better all the time". No real serious critique of Ep. 5 & no real spoiler here, I'm only going to say, the sight of Butcher and Soldier Boy standing together .... Be still my aged heart!
The Boys (2019)
Kripke continues to push the envelope
His Supernatural days brought a whole new level to the ways a body can be folded, spindled and mutilated, not to mention how much tissue & blood can be spewed about but The Boys on Amazon has given him the ultimate unfettered platform with which to go take it to the limit and beyond because now sexual depravity can be added to the mix. Personally, I could well do without that and some of the over the top blood and guts. Being a senior citizen who has always enjoyed well done good vs evil stories I was intrigued by this show because I thoroughly enjoyed Supernatural as well as other superhero shows and could watch them with my grandchildren but this show, that's not possible. Anyway, I gave this show a 6 because it does move along, the acting/characters are watchable & I'm also looking forward to seeing Jensen Ackles again. ("Eye candy" isn't just for young people, lol) However the occasional "woke" politics being thrown in is annoying and tedious & the blatant hedonism is off putting to say the least. How I long for the days when we could just be "entertained" and not "indoctrinated".
Resident Alien (2021)
great show!
Did not know what to expect and decided to give it a try and we're glad we did. This show is a welcomed distraction from reality. The cast is great and love every single one of them. Our only worry is like so many other shows of this genre, they tend to get axed after the 1st or 2nd season. THAT BETTER NOT BE THE CASE WITH THIS ONE!
SurrealEstate (2021)
interesting idea
Selling possessed real estate, I like it. Pity it wasn't given a 2nd season to further develop as there are so few "supernatural" type shows anymore. Liked all the characters and the general premise. Oh well, just goes to show you, now-a-days don't get to wrapped up in a new series, they seem to come and go as fast as a creepy apparition.
Lucifer: Partners 'Til the End (2021)
meh...
Seems everything was tied up in a nice neat bow at the end, which actually isn't a bad thing. At least it wasn't one of those finales that leaves you shouting WTF at the tv. Anyway, overall the 6th season wasn't anywhere near as good as the previous 5, it was more like they had to tie a up the loose ends, which truthfully could have been done in say 5 episodes. In the end, thanks to the cast for some decent entertainment over the past 5 years , it was for the most part, fun.
Lucifer: Is This Really How It's Going To End?! (2021)
did NOT see this coming
Strap on your seatbelts because this episode will be taking you for a ride on a good old fashioned "emotional" roller-coaster.
Lucifer: A Chance at a Happy Ending (2021)
WOW
Talk about raising the bar HIGH and keeping your audience RIVETED! This episode knocked it out of the park but I fear anything after this won't be able to meet the expectations this OUTSTANDING episode established. Kudos to the writers, actors and all those involved in putting it together. Lastly, while this episode and the entire series has been extremely entertaining, here's hoping the writers put the universe right again (if you know what I mean) in the 6th and final season.
Lucifer: Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam (2021)
All I can say is
Thank goodness for fast fwd on the remote. Can't understand why they felt the need to substitute dialogue/story with silly musical interludes.
Colony (2016)
This show needs to be brought back
There are so few new shows worth watching now-a-days due to the PC crowd so we spend our time scouring the likes of Netflix and Amazon for shows we may have missed in the past and we came across this gem. Good story, likeable characters, fast paced, pity it wasn't allowed to continue.
Jericho (2006)
worth a look
While searching for something to watch (again) because Hollywood seems to have forgotten how to come up with anything worth viewing lately, we came across this show on Netflix, gave it a try and happy we did. The story moves right along and the characters are appealing. Pity they only made 30 episodes.
Walker (2021)
not impressed
Tuned in to see Jared Padalecki as we were fans of Supernatural but the writing in this show was no where near the caliber of Mr. Padalecki's previous outing. It was boring, predictable and we kept getting the feeling that overall, the show was trying too hard to be PC and that's something that just doesn't spell entertainment to us.
American Gothic (1995)
Best made for tv horror thriller
Why this was never continued is a mystery and travesty. If only they could get the "band" back together and continue the saga of Sheriff Buck and the folks of Trinity. The cast was perfection and the stories kept you riveted. They don't make tv like this anymore.
Supernatural: Carry On (2020)
Had NO idea what to expect...
So I was ready for just about anything but all the while praying that it wouldn't be one of those rotten endings that leaves you scratching your head and saying WTF. Thankfully this didn't leave me that way. It ended just as the song, that we've all sung along with for the past 15 years said, "there'll be peace when you are done". For that, I say thank you for giving us "peace" by way of a finale that left us with a sense that the righteous epilogue we were hoping for, had finally been attained for our "boys", the Winchester's.
Addendum: I'm writing this more than a year after my initial review above. I just finished watching this episode for only the 2nd time since it originally aired and all I can think of now is how the "virus" robbed us all of what could have been a finale to end ALL finales. If the writers, actors and all those involved with the production over the years could have assembled and been able to craft the show as they had "pre-virus" I truly believe we would have been in for a real mind blowing visual treat. I've got to believe the writers would have given us a closing glimpse of our favorite characters that we came to love over the past 15 years, such as Crowley, Rowena, Castiel, Jack, etc. And how their "Heaven's" turned out....or not. I gave the finale a 7 & am sticking with it but I know because of the excellent stories/characters over the years, this show had the capabilities of giving us a 10+. Damned virus!! BTW, I'm a 67 yr. Old nana, and rarely has any show drawn me in & held my interest like this one. It had EVERYTHING, the stories featured good/evil, legend, myth, mythology, horror, etc. And don't get this "seasoned citizen" started on the "boys", not too hard to watch( wink wink). Lastly the MUSIC, it was the music of my youth. What other show EVER played Jethro Tull! This show had it ALL.
Lucifer: It Never Ends Well for the Chicken (2020)
this episode seemed like it would never end
However thank goodness for the "fast forward" feature. Skipped to the relevant parts to find out the story of the ring and how Maze came to be. Wish they could have told the tale without the "film noir" treatment.
Warehouse 13 (2009)
Good, entertaining series
For these senior citizens, we found this show very entertaining, worth "binging" on and we're glad we discovered it. We enjoyed all the characters/actors as well as the bits of history behind the "artifacts". Wish there were more shows like this.
