Godzilla (2014)
Just what I wanted ..... and more
I'm a long time G fan, from about 1978 onward. I watched the old movies, I bought the old Marvel comics, and I even watched that crummy cartoon .... "Up from the depths, 30 stories high... So, like most of you, I wanted a good modern movie that I could enjoy as an adult. The 1998 movie was not what I wanted. Granted, I admit, I still enjoyed seeing a giant monster destroy NYC, in a Jurassic Park clone sort of way, but it was not a true rep of how big G should be treated. I've been waiting for a movie like this my whole teen/adult life. One that plays it straight, has great effects, and makes big G .... scary.... the way my childhood mind always pictured him. I can not understand what people are complaining about. G's design looked great, we had great effects, dread, action, destruction, he fought monsters.... Even the 3D was great. As soon as I see this listed in a 3D Blu Ray combo pack, I will pre-order. Can't wait for a part 2!
Witch's Night Out (1978)
great - but different
I saw this when it first aired, I was 9 at the time and loved it, it was different, it had a bizarre yet oddly engrossing animation style, and a clever wit about it. Now 29 years later I found an old rental copy (this was out briefly on VHS and has never been out on DVD). This is just as odd and cool as I remembered. I don't understand why this never became a yearly special on TV. After its initial broadcast, it just seemed to fade into obscurity. Hopefully someone will see fit to release it on disc. I mean copies on ebay routinely sell for $20 - $60, so someone remembers this sucker other than me. Well, I'm glad I found a copy, as now my kids who are crazy for anything Halloween, will be one of the very few of their generation to ever see it.
Oh, it also has one of the coolest theme songs, it stuck in my head for 29 years.
Identity (2003)
Great film
Great, dark film, with a great twist. I wish there were more like this. The cast are all good, and most people will not "get it" until the end. The DVD however is lacking any real extras. The cut scenes are cool, but the "extended version" is a joke"
Home for the Holidays (1995)
great comedy drama
My wife got me into this gem of a flick. Actually saw it in the theater. Simple, yet soo funny. A must for every person dreading the season, or for those with odd relatives.
