The Resort (2022)
So far really good, giving it a 10 to compensate for people who don't have the patience to get to the good stuff ;)
Does it start off slow? Sure. It's called a slow burn ;)
Is it a bit artsy & more creative that the typical fare you would expect from peacock? Yes.
Does it have a compelling mystery, engaging (underrated) actors with complex backstories not often seen in the media? Absolutely.
Most of the audience will miss the nuances revealed in the first half of the episode and may not understand the couple's behavior - but as 2 people who have recently experienced tragedy similar to what is likely yet to be explained in the show, my husband and I found that there is a lot that is instantly recognizable. I don't want to spoil anything but their patterns of behavior, her deep need for meaning, his constant exhaustion are all spot on and almost too real. There is a lot of depth here and I cannot wait to see where this goes.
Hoping that this gets the attention it deserves and many more seasons.
P. S. To the guy who left a review about "an annoying narration" - there is no narration to the show - you will enjoy the show much more if you check your settings again :)
Pandora (2019)
Dear CW, please stop casting porn couch wannabe actresses
Wow.the CW keeps using the same formula and wondering why their new shows flop. They cast generically attractive plastic clones, who can't act and add in very thin plot lines / premises created out of what seems like a mad lib of buzzwords and end up with a soulless mess that can't hold a viewers attention. The lead actress is just a knock off Megan Fox, that somehow looks like a 40yr old bc of all the work she has had done - and that's who they are hinging this series on... It's all downhill from there folks. I used to like the CW but they are just so out of touch these days. They need fresh blood and ideas from writers who aren't afraid to pitch more compelling stories. Until that happens, I'm out.
Smallfoot (2018)
Expected to Hate it, Yeti didn't.
Terrible pun, but I couldn't help myself, it was Himalayan right there ( anyone?).
The music wasn't anything to write home about, but not knowing it had ANY musical numbers going in allowed me to enjoy what was done. Plus, it made me imagine an all-Yeti "Magic Mike" parody short- which FYI Warner Brothers - I feel like audiences would be sooooo here for. Scandalous, I know.
Speaking of scandal, for those reviewers who are up-in-arms about the "attack on Christianity" - if you are looking to take a message personally, you are always going to find a way to do so. Heck, you could say that "Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat" was antiChristian if you were determined to find a reason - but not everything is about you.
It's a filmmaker's (particularly one making children's movies) job to find fairly uncontroveral themes and universal truths to maximize their audience. Plus, it seems like a stretch considering several of the main cast members are well-known Christians.
The heavy-handed messages that are present- "continue to learn and grow in order to find understanding" "don't follow blindly" "question authority when you have good reason" "doing the right thing is worth more than vanity", etc. - seem like pretty universally good takeaways to me.
My advice is to go-in with an open-mind (and a bit of a blank slate) and to stop looking for new ways that the liberal media is trying to attack you - because if we are actually putting some effort into attacking right wing extremists, we'll be pretty in-your-face about it to avoid any confusion 😘
