Makes more sense after seeing one theory
13 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those films that can be both confusing and frustrating. Many will ask "why?" "What was the point?" I decided to delve into some internet articles about it and it seems to make a bit more sense when you believe that the bullet was actually poisoned. Teddo's behavior makes more sense. Leaving the gun on counter. Perhaps the pain of the past was too much for him. And he wanted to be put out of his misery. Fast forward to Makwa getting away with murder and coming home to his wife. The poison is why his arm looks so terrible and he goes to the beach looking ill and stumbling a bit. He's dying. And the connection to the starting story.....the native man with small pox. He tried to leave, so he wouldn't make his family sick. But when he comes home his wife is dying, and he did not get rid of his sickness. He died anyway and his sickness has infected his family. Makwa left the reservation and tried to make a new life. Even leaving the bullet casing in Wisconsin. But that sickness that was inside him never went away. And it will finally consume him. As it does at the end. Does it also bleed onto his family? Well yes, because now the wife has lost her husband and their two children will grow up without a father.

Just wanted to add something....
26 September 2022
Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with aphasia. It's a disorder that affects your speech. So it's not just because he's old or just phoning it in. It's sad how many people are so cruel and judgmental before considering their words first. He's made some incredible films and not so long ago. Red, for instance. He was great in that one. And obviously the man is a legend for Die Hard, alone. Let's give him his props. This movie isn't his fault. I mean, he was hardly in it anyway. I was actually excited to see Devon Sawa. I'm glad I'm seeing him more these days. I hope he gets some more and better projects in the future. He's a good actor. Better than Luke Wilson,, just my opinion. This film could have been better. So that's always a disappointment. But keep in mind, it has a great audience score. You might enjoy it. I'm definitely not mad I watched and it certainly wasn't a waste of time.

Clearly one of those movies that divides people
9 June 2022
But honestly, I'm struggling to understand why. I also really enjoyed this film and I'm not the biggest fan of musicals. But maybe I immediately felt an affinity for it because I relate. And I like that it's messy. Life is messy. I also love Ben platt as Evan. As well as the other actors. I think they all did a beautiful job. Again, it seems to divide and it's understandable if you don't like it. It's not everyone's cup of tea. Some of the negative opinions are a bit harsh and I think perhaps they misunderstood it. But anyway, I'm glad I saw it, despite negative reviews. It reached me. Maybe it will reach you too.

Might need a second viewing
16 May 2022
I caught this movie halfway through. I was taken in and very intrigued but missing a lot, obviously. So I rewatched from the beginning and so glad I did. Some things might have been more confusing but I had seen further down so now I was understanding. It's definitely not a film for everyone. And I'm additionally annoyed that the US version is cut. However, all in all, I really did enjoy this film. I loved the actors and I thought they played their parts well. It does leave a lot open ended or up to interpretation and that can be frustrating. But I just can't stop thinking about it. I love those films that just stay with you and make you want to continue u deters ding and wrapping your mind around it.

Grew on me
5 April 2022
I must admit I wasn't all that into it at first. But if it was on I'd let it sort of play in the background. After doing that a few times it started to grow on me. Now I look forward to new episodes. Some of the complaints I've seen on here are pretty harsh. I don't think they are fully warranted but I admit it's not everyone's cup of tea. However, it might be yours if you give it a chance. I'm glad I did. By the way, love Judith light as Courtney Cox's mom. The family is a mess but entertaining.

Yikes
24 January 2022
So yes the girl is bratty and a mess. Hello. Alcoholic. However, I feel bad for her. Her sponsor is AWFUL. And get support system is non existent. And there's a reason AA mostly doesn't work. Sorry AA diehards. But it doesn't, statistically. I wish I could just scream at the tv all the things that could help this girl. Instead, she gets "just don't drink." Yikes. I hope she finds a good therapist at some point. And gets some meaningful help. Sorry I can't stick it out to find out.

They copied Tarantino OUTIH
16 January 2022
They literally took the exact same actress from once upon a time in Hollywood and set her on fire exactly like once upon a time in Hollywood ending. I've been a long time Scream fan. That's all I came here to say, I guess. Just couldn't get past it. Wtf? Also, I hated that kill. You know the one.

Not a single cough
22 November 2021
Not one single cough in the whole film. Even when they are in a full blown forest fire. It may have some entertainment value but you really gotta check reality at the door. Lol.

A few things
15 October 2021
So first, I was in college when the original came out. I really liked it. I had also loved the book. And yes, I'm old. Lol. What I don't understand is complaints about reboots that aren't like the original. Why? That movie has already been made. You can't duplicate it, so might as well go in a different direction. Side note, the original had one of the best horror chase scenes, in my opinion, so it's worth a rewatch every Halloween, or any other day of the week. I do like this lead actress (she'll always be Bethany) ...though she does seem a bit old for the role she's playing, as well as a couple others, but that's fine. I understand them not wanting a 17/18 yr old doing these kinds of scenes. Okay, so the drugs, sex and wokeness....those seem to be a theme and area of disdain in these reviews. Teenagers have sex and do drugs. My mom grew up in the 60s and her and her friends definitely did. It's not a new generation thing by any means. It's also the 21st century. Kids are a great deal more aware and woke, if that's what you want to call it. They may go a bit over the top but this is the horror genre. Horror has always done that and has very often played upon these themes. I'm a big horror fan so it didn't feel out of place to me. Or like it was trying too hard. Just typical. And finally, I've also seen this trend of bashing shows after viewing only one episode. Maybe give it at least 3 episodes? Sometimes you just want a fluffy horror that doesn't make you think too much. It's not an 8, but it could hover around a 6 (maybe even 7) if you're not expecting too much.

Better than Friday the 13th
26 July 2020
So, this film and the famous Friday the 13th came out the same year. Yes, they both involve summer camps and a killer, but aside from that they are far different. And I know this is not a popular opinion, but this film is far more entertaining with way better kills. One guess as to why it didn't do as well....the name. I mean, go to the theater to see "Burning" or "Friday the 13th". Too easy. But that's really too bad. So many people missed out on a classic. So glad I was able to find it.

So confused though
22 July 2020
This isn't so terrible. I'm just really confused as to why they're using so many old 80s cars to portray the years 2004-2006. ??? It's really odd and throws me off. It's not like one person just happens to have an old car. They all do. We did drive modern cars in 2004, guys. If you like the old esthetic that's much, go ahead and make the movie in the year 1984. Otherwise, it just feels off, and confused....and not in a good way.

Holy crap
14 July 2020
So I'm a horror fiend. I admit, I'm often overly nice to them. I see the bright side of every one. This sucker was a bag of hot garbage. For every reason. Terrible acting....terrible writing. The story just didn't make sense at the end...enough plot holes to create a total abyss. Damn blunhouse. What on earth is going on?

Love this weird little gem
7 July 2020
It's based on a book by Lois Lowry....she's great. Look her up. I love myself a movie that's off the beaten path. My 9 yr old daughter loved it, also. And Ricky Gervais is the narrating cat. Even better.

Want to love it, but..
17 June 2020
God I really want to love this. I've read all the books and it's definitely not an issue of things not lining up with the books. I don't care about that. It's a beautiful looking show with amazing characters and awesome gore, but it just feels like it's too much. They're asking way too much. I'm not looking for something believable. But this is just so far fetched out there and the things people choose to do or are talked into doing become laughable. And I don't want to laugh at this. But damn guys, come on... I will keep watching. But I'm a little bit disappointed.

I am the reviewer here to say it's not bad
30 April 2020
I think the main problem is so many people are giving reviews when they either don't u eefstabd it or it's not their style of horror. Fine. There are plenty others out there. But I fear the low rating will keep fans of gothic horror away from this one and that would be a damn shame. It is a definite slow burn, but it has a constant creep and eeriness going steadily through. I was not bored once. Again, if this film bores you, I'd advise you look into the movie genre before bashing something you don't understand. Watch a gore fest and call it good.

I'm a Stephen King fan with kids
12 February 2020
I've seen a lot of reviews about the rating. Or they didn't go as hardcore as they could have. I am a diehard Stephen King fan and found out about this because his son was involved. This is the perfect show to watch with my daughter. She's 9. I love it but I can also enjoy this genre with her. She's taken with it and I can appreciate the days when these themes didn't have to be thrown in my face and pushed for shock value. Reminds me to embrace the old days of watching a show and letting it unfold

It has my interest
18 October 2019
It's definitely something refreshing for a teen dramedy. The actors are good and I'm enjoying the writing. The soundtrack is also a good one. There seems to be an underlying mystery....in only on episode 3 so Im very interested to see how it plays out. And it could change my rating....for the better or worse. (;

Took me back to the magic of childhood
5 September 2019
I really was blown away. It was even better than I could have hoped for. The Dark Crystal was an incredibly important film from my childhood. It was otherworldly. Like nothing that was ever seen onscreen. Jim Henson truly was a genius. With all that was, I cannot imagine all the pressure and undertaking involved in doing this series but dammit they pulled it off. The skeksis are perfection. By the end of the series, they are the inhabitants of pure evil. Also, I must say that while I hate what cgi has done to a lot of films, it was used so well here. It's absolutely beautiful. And the puppets are that much more magical. Really, the whole thing is pure magic. I had that childlike awe and joy again, which is just so rare these days.

The great and not so great
10 August 2019
Really digging this new show in the Scooby world. Love the look and feel, with a great premise also. What's not so great? I can barely stand the new god voice for Velma. I mean, in the category of nasally high pitched voices, this one causes ear bleeding. I miss the voice of Mindy Cohn.

If this show is meant for you, you'll know in the first episode. If it's not, that's fine. It's a damn gem for the ones that get it.

Had to pause the film to write this
1 July 2019
I am so pissed off/annoyed for the writer and director of this film. That trailer really ruined a lot for them. The film was perfectly set up for an amazing twist. What a shame. And even the famous Achilles slicing scene! What the hell!?! Whoever was in charge of marketing really failed this film. That aside, I am actually enjoying it very much. My issue with PS has always been the bleakness. Boy is it bleak. But I really dig the creepy atmosphere and cinematic style in this one. The actors all do wonderfully but I have a soft spot for John, of course. Jeté Laurence had quite a lot to live up to. Let's be honest. And I think she did great. She's no Gage, but again, I believe her impact would have been much greater had the film not been shot in the foot before it ever came out. What a loss!

A fan of the book with a good review
18 June 2019
So, I figured I'd leave a review because I'm reading review after review by readers of the book that really trash it. And I simply don't agree. I'm okay with changes. There's no way to put book to screen perfectly. I appreciate a different perspective. Just more to enjoy, for me. I'm a diehard Stephen king fan so I guess I'm used to screen versions being different. So far, I'm 3 in and the story is building nicely. Pace increasing quite nicely. I dig the actress that plays Vic.

Intriguing
21 January 2019
So, I read the book a few years back. But I'm one of the smarter book readers that doesn't compare too much. I try to appreciate film and book as completely separate things. Because they are. So just judging this as a film, it kept me interested throughout and I was also interested in the characters. I love mystery....I don't need everything shown to me like so many people here seem to. If you came looking for the average garbage Hollywood delivers, you'll be disappointed. Go watch skyscraper or something.
