Life (2015)
Definitely could've been better, but not a bad movie.
After watching Life on Netflix, I'm not really sure how I feel about it. The movie portrays Dennis Stock (played by Robert Pattinson) as a photographer who self-assigns himself to take pictures of James Dean (played by Dane DeHaan) for Life Magazine in 1955, the start of James Dean's big yet short career as an actor in films. The story itself was interesting, and I felt myself interested in the film, though some reviews called it slow and boring. The only thing really boring are the actors. Dane DeHaan seems held back throughout the movie and portrays James Dean as not a particularly interesting person, but more of just a bland guy off the streets. The same goes for Robert Pattinson, who I feel does a lot of things wrong in a few scenes he's in. I found myself, for both actors, mimicking how I personally would've directed the scene. I thought the director of Control, Anton Corbijn, would make a fascinating movie about the early career of James Dean. He succeeded, but at the cost of boring actors and some scenes that I just found to be pointless to the story, particularly the relationship between Dennis Stock and his family. As for recommendation, I definitely suggest you check out the movie. It's currently on Netflix, and is worth a shot, even if you don't feel the same as I do.
Godzilla (2014)
Meh...
I personally thought Godzilla didn't go too well with the source material, nor was the main monster Godzilla. I feel that the main monster was really whatever the hell those two things were in the movie. They get the most attention, and Godzilla is mostly being used to kill them. Sure, the monster gets a lot of attention, but he is just a side-character, while most of the attention is on the other monsters. They are the main threat, and Godzilla helps the people of San Francisco. There's another thing as well. Godzilla is turned good in this movie, which is not what he is about. Godzilla is a monster that shoots a blue laser beam, and terrorizes cities. He doesn't just help people by killing monsters. Okay, maybe he did that a few dozen times, but he's not just about helping people. He destroys cities like Tokyo, Japan and not San Francisco. One more problem I had was the ending. This movie had a chance to go on an hour and a half more to get a good resolution, whereas in this movie, it had a very short resolution with the credits coming in to disappoint the audience. That's my nitpicking review.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
One of the best Batman movies, but not the best movie ever...
WARNING! SPOILER ALERT! We have all seen the Batman movies. They're awesome, except for the Joel Schumacher movies. We all know that those sucked. I've seen all of the movies, and The Dark Knight Rises wasn't the best.
First of all, it's a great movie. Really, it is. Many people are overwhelmed by the action, the characters, and the fact that Gotham City nearly gets destroyed, literally. Many people focused on the movie, I focused on the story, and it's flaws.
There are many plot holes in this story. The first one is the whole Ra's Al Ghul thing. Basically, I think this movie should've gone a different direction. If you think about it, this movie is basically a direct sequel to Batman Begins, making The Dark Knight useless. If they used a different origin of Bane, it would make the movie make more sense. Oh, wait a second! Bane has nothing to do with the Ra's Al Ghul thing! Bane was just... there. Basically, this chick, technically a spy to have Batman go googly-eyed over, turns out to be the heir of Ra's Al Ghul when we all think that it's Bane. This makes Bane completely useless except for having a psychopath taking over the city, which goes back to the whole "Don't continue the Ra's Al Ghul" thing again! If you're just gonna have some random chick almost kill Batman at the end, WHY NOT JUST HAVE BANE BE THE HEIR?!? I swear, Bane might have broken Batman's bones, but this chick almost kills him right before Catwoman kills Bane with the Bat-Pod. WORST DEATH EVER!
Next, let's go over the plot. So, it's just another guy trying to take over Gotham. That's just it. This time, we have a lady who clearly works for Bane, and double-crosses Batman so that Bane and Batman can fight, Catwoman. We also have Bane. Bane is basically a messed up guy who gets the crap beat out of him for getting said heir of Ra's Al Ghul escape from the worst jail ever. He wears a mask, which we believe helps him breath. In the comics, he wore the mask, but it wasn't for breathing. This was going on in the movie, too, but the mask was actually used for injecting a drug which produces super-strength into Bane, making him strong. He's the big man, because he has an army of henchmen that brings Gotham to hell. He gains control of this power source that Lucius Fox has, and converts it into an atomic bomb, and kills the only man who can manually disable it. OOPS! So, Bane wants to destroy Gotham, but with style. At first, a whole army of cops can stop him, but Bane lures them underground, and traps them. Also, Catwoman gives up Batman to Bane, and Bane almost kills him, taking his vehicles and weapons from his armory. Batman is sent to the pit jail that Bane came from, and can't escape, because his bones are broken. Also, Bane bombs bridges, so the army can't enter. This means that he has full control of Gotham City, and nothing can stop him. Eventually, Batman escapes the jail, frees the cops, and takes control. Batman and Bane fight again, and Batman almost wins until that heir of Ra's Al Ghul stabs him, and almost kills him. She escapes, and takes the bomb. Bane is about to kill Batman, but then BANE is killed by Catwoman at the last second. Again, worst death ever. Batman catches, and kills the heir, and takes the bomb away from the city. The bomb goes off, and Batman dies. Everybody is sad, but no more danger, right? RIGHT? Well, now it's just a regular city again. They had a savior, and they're happy. At the last scene, it is revealed the most confusing twist in the whole movie.
BATMAN SURVIVED A FREAKING ATOMIC BOMB BLAST!
Now, I can understand that Batman might have jumped out of his plane at the last second, BUT HOW CAN HE SURVIVE THAT?!?
Like I said before, it's a good movie. It's not the best in the world, but it's AMAZING! Kinda cliché, but I love it.
