The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry (2008)
An unexpected gem!
Our family watched The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry last night and each one of us thought it was an absolutely wonderful movie. We have had this film in our Netflix Watch Instantly queue ever since Netflix acquired it, but had never taken time to watch it. When we decided to watch it as a family last night, my 11-year-old son balked and said it looked like it would be "boring", but even he was brought to unexpected tears and smiles here and there throughout (as were the rest of us); and at the end he was the first to say what a great movie this was and that "we really need to buy this". The main theme that stood out to me in this film was the impact that one person could have on so many other people's lives, especially if they truly live what they profess to believe. I highly recommend this heart-felt, family-friendly, thought-provoking film.
The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)
Excellent movie; we watched it over and over!
My family and I found this movie to be excellent and very enjoyable to watch! We watched it three times within three days, as a rental, and definitely plan to buy our own copy. Jim Caviezel is quite convincing in his lead role, and the other players are fantastic as well. The plot was very engrossing. I highly recommend this movie.
The Women (1939)
Funny and very entertaining!
This is one of those classics that I just had to have after viewing it on tv, and since I've bought it, I've watched it a dozen times or more. I just loved all the different characters and the way they interacted with each other. Rosalind Russell is particularly funny in her role, fast talking and gossipy, which was a departure from her usual stuffy uppity characters. Casting her in this part was a gamble for Cukor; a gamble that paid off! A little outdated in its view of woman/men relationships, but other than that, a very entertaining film.
