I'm a movie buff since my late teens and today collecting movies are one of a few things i tend to dwelve into on what little time that is left after work and family has taken their share. So, reading lists here or on other places, or just using google, has become something i do at least a few minutes before bedtime. I prefer bluray, so if it isn't a VERY desired item i don't buy it if it's only available on dvd.
I work for the Church of Sweden and live in a fairly large seaside city, next to the harbour, and movies set in seaside towns has actually become something i regularly search for.
Otherwise, i would say my taste in movies are very broad. I generally don't have very much interest in american comedy - with a few exceptions. And i tend to go for more serious drama movies. I don't like "gritty" movies. I like nice surroundings and beutiful filmmaking, for example two totally different movies right off my head: "Horse Whisperer" and "The Untouchables". Just yesterday i found "the black dahlia" on bluray, wich made that evening.

Best modern westerns (movies and tv-series)
50 titles |
Public
I have tried to watch what by many are considered to be the best of the old school westerns. Most of them are just too campy. And too many new ones are just too depressive and booring. I prefer a clear hero to vore for.
My first westerns to reach my eyes where the Clint Eastwood ones. I don't know how many times i saw "The good, the bad and the ugly" before the age of 15. But spaghetti westerns are often filmed in rather dull locations.
So, here is what i consider to be the best from the late 50s up'til the present.

Swordfighting / adventure movies

Swordfighting, the classic adventure. Hard to find if you don't want to watch old black and white stuff. You could find more up a similar alley on my other list - "Medieval and fantasy movies". The two lists share several entries.
Lake- and seaside movies of all sorts
48 titles |
Public
This list consists of movies/series that have at least one thing in common, namely that all of them have part of their plot set either on the coast or lakeside. I have them all and i have bought them specifically for this reason. Some are more action oriented movies some are pure drama and some are what most people would call "feelgood-movies".
Bond-movies: from best to worst according to me
25 titles |
Public
Many of us grew up with them. The good thing about Bond-films is that the violence are quite mild and non-gory. I actually think my first grown-up movie was "Goldfinger".
So for many it has been a family thing. And the thing is: over a couple of decades my idea of which are the best, has varied, although I've always thought Roger Moore was the worst Bond, and they let him continue for far too long. I also think Timothy Dalton could have made a few more. He is a classic actor like Craig, and i think he could have developed the darker sides of the character a lot more.
Actually, lists like these are somewhat useless, because there will always be a day when it feels better to watch "The man with the golden gun" rather than "Skyfall". And i really love these movies (well, not the bottom three).
Note: i don`t include "Never say never again" and Nivens "Casino Royale" since i don`t think many people recognize them as part of the Bond canon.
Small town/rural movies
66 titles |
Public
I like to watch movies set in small towns. Doesen't matter much what it's about. Just a question of surroundings. Could even be a horror flick or a comedy, wich generally are genres i avoid. It's a big plus if it has some quirky characters with hearts of gold in it. You will find a lot of films typically known as "feelgood movies" in this list.
Sometimes i even get my son to watch them with me.

Movies with great scenery and/or photo
64 titles |
Public
Mainly movies i think have great nature scenery in them. Nice sense of place or great photo. Thre are some big city movies in here.
Police- and firefighter movies
21 titles |
Public
Here i have brought together a rather short list of movies about First response-personell, rescue teams, cops etc. I wish they could make more movies about firefighters. Childhood dream i guess...
Cop films can often be too gritty - in the wrong way. But these are some i can recommend.
Spy movies and the cold war
115 titles |

The focus here is predominantly the kind of movies and tv-series that has a more advanced plot and/or classic cloak and dagger plot. I really jump at spy movies set in the 40-70s.
But there also has to be some action, AND a reasonable amount of outdoor scenes - not just talk, talk, talk indoors, like the much renowned "Smiley's people" and "Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy" from the 80s.
I don´t like b/w movies, so you won´t find the really classic movies like "The third man" here, but other movies with the same spirit and more modern ones, like The superb tv-series like "The Blackist" and "The Americans".
Another interesting subgenre in this list are the nazihunter movies.
